general media A question to the shippers: have you ever had one of your ships become canon?

To eliminate the "what is shipping?" question; I am referring to the belief that two characters are compatible for romance or friendship and you wish to see this happen for various reasons. OTP is an acronym for One True Paring. 

 

For the most part shipping is a fantasy game; You know your favorite pair is not likely to get together even though you know they are perfect for each other, so you settle for the fanfics and the fan art and anything else that validates your love for the couple.

 

Sometimes though there are these breathtakingly amazing moments when the evidence you had so meticulously gathered and the reasoning you worked so hard on turned out to be 100% accurate and that dream couple you thought would never happen ends up becoming canon. You didn't think it would happen, but it did, and you fangirled/boyed so hard that you ended up pulling something.  

 

Has this magical thing ever happened to you dear shipper? It can be from anything, bonus points if the couple was gay or lesbian.

Yep, and it was great . Four books of buildup finally paid off. While shipping can be rooted in wish-fulfillment, I'd like to give writers credit for when they manage to really sell their couples and get people invested in seeing them together. Fans'll run with most anything that tickles their fancy, but it helps when the source material gives them a very strong foundation to build on. In this case, they acted like an old married couple when they were sixteen .
