general media Disney hid a lot of things..

I really LOVE Disney and hope to work with Disney some day. So, I just got done watching Peter Pan, one of my most favorite Disney movies of all time. I really missed it and relived my childhood :D

I also noticed in older Disney films (As well as older cartoons, like Looney tunes) there has been a lot of crude humor. For example, In Peter Pan, there was a scene that Hook shot one of his shipmates because he was singing and being obnoxious. Pretty much he died. Um, also in Peter Pan, the character Smee, Hook's assistant got drunk. Then there is a song called "What makes the red man red" in Peter pan and I read up, its pretty much racist. Same goes in the movies such as The Aristocats, where there was also alcohol abuse and smoking. Alice in Wonderland had a Hookah smoking Caterpillar and that movie is based on a lot to do with drugs and crazy people, but...ONE OF MY FAVORITE MOVIES.

Anyways, is there any Disney moments you remember were so crude as you re-watched them? Share them, because I would like to know some all you ponies have caught. I need to watch more older Disney films.

I don't really think they 'hid' it ;p It's just that back in those days, people were more lenient on things that are considered taboo nowadays. Political correctness has taken over and nobody has the balls to do anything 'out of the ordinary' anymore.

Back to the question though, I haven't watched any old Disney movies. Though I ought to since my friends constantly say I'm crazy because I haven't seen Bambi, Pocahontas, Peter Pan, Alice in Wonderland, The Lion King, Aladdin or Cinderella.

Oh, well I guess you're right. Well, they're hidden to me, but yes. Now a days, if cartoons even have a gun hit anybody, its TERRIBLE or if they add smoking. I honestly did not mind that stuff. I love older cartoons and Disney.

Oh, the entire treatment of the Indians in Peter Pan is incredibly racist by modern standards. Not really Disney's fault though, as the original play is just as bad.

I've always found the sexual tension between Peter and the female characters of the film (Tiger Lily, Wendy Darling, and Tinker Bell) to be unusual for a children's film.

Yes, these were references which kids were actually supposed to understand. They weren't hidden.

In Tangled there is a drunk who flirts with "mother".

In Frozen, Oaken introduces his family who are in the sauna, and appear to consist of a male partner and four kids.

Peter Pan, Alice in Wonderland, Bambi, and The Lion King on that list are definitely worth seeing. Aladdin is OK. The others I wouldn't bother with.

It's not on your list, but Mulan is one of the best films Disney made during the 20th century.

I don't know if this counts as what you are talking about (since it has nothing to do with smoking or being drunk) but I always shiver when I see Clayton's death. Why? I re-watched Tarzan a bit after a friend of the family hung himself (I spent a week in a state of shock due to me knowing him ever since I was born pretty much...)... It was not only terrifying to watch, it is still so creepy. Yet children don't realise how or what happened since all you can see is his shadow... I guess I don't like the movie that much because of that.

I love Disney as well. Sure there a lot of discrepancies, but Disney is still the best in my opinion. Sure Disney uses a lot of drunk references but I really don't see anything wrong with that.

  • The Tarzan scene with Clayton. (Very graphic of the vines hanging him)
  • Lion King, Mufassa dieing because of an evil uncle.
  • Aristocats, the butler trying to get rid of the family piece so he can have the money when she passes
  • Dumbo, I remember them saying he should of never been born. That's so harsh.

All in all Disney can be crude in other aspects.

I thought this thread was going to be about stuff like the scene in the Lion King where these clouds spell what looks like the word "sex" (they say it is SFX which is the sound system the movie is using though) and this one scene in Rescue Rangers where if you pause the movie you can actually see a naked woman (this one is actually confirmed). There are just certain "mature" subjects and topics that people just weren't as squeamish about back then and I honestly wish that was still the case.

I have grown up seeing a lot of this stuff as well as a lot stuff like this in Loony Toons cartoons as well and I am not an alcoholic or a drug addict nor am I scarred for life because of any of it. Kids really aren't THAT much different now then when I was a kid and yet you wouldn't know that with how overprotective a lot of parents can get.The Hunchback of Notre Dame is like the king of Disney movies with these kind of references. Judge Claude Frollo went so far as to massacre innocent people to get what he wants and though it dosen't state it (it does in the book it is based on though) that Frollo wants to have sex with Esmeralda.

Disney really sucks now honestly.

Shows back in my childhood were great. Now, it's disgusting to even watch. I don't really know any of the new shows now since I stopped following Disney's new content.

I mean, we saw Miley turn from an Innocent teenage girl to becoming one of the biggest sluts of the year. Does drugs and thinks she can  "Twerk" when she really can't. Not gonna go into further details because well, we know what she is now. She going through a crisis. That's what fame and money will do to you. Freaking Hollywood. Hannah Montana was actually a good show until it stopped and then it turned her into something that she thought she was never going to be. A attention wanting pos.

To be exact, whether they WERE meant to be hidden or not, they were STILL hidden to me and a lot of other kids. Its pretty much a JOKE??? A lot of people make jokes that they were hidden? Look at Spongebob, the classic Cartoon network cartoons and some of the Nickelodeon cartoons. If they were meant to be in there, not a whole lot of us spotted those as kids. Yes, back then, things were different and had more crude humor.

Also, this topic is to share those crude humor moments you caught, not correct everybody on here. -_-

It doesn't have to do with smoking or being drunk xD but yes, the deaths in some of the movies were crazy!! Crude i mean, drinking, smoking, certain deaths, fighting, drugs, and maybe some sex appeal.

I love Disney as well. Sure there a lot of discrepancies, but Disney is still the best in my opinion. Sure Disney uses a lot of drunk references but I really don't see anything wrong with that.

Yup. Nothing wrong with drinking. I found it funny honestly, but its just in general, now in cartoons, if there was even drinking, parents would go viral. :/
