Cherry Bomb 51 January 8, 2015 Share January 8, 2015 Title spells most of it out. I've been trying to make MLP analysis videos for quiet sometime now yet whenever I attempt to make a script I immediately feel it is no good and rip the page from my notebook. And when I try to speak in my mic I feel shy and awkward even though no one is there. Yet when I make a post on a forum or something my posts seem educated and well written...just what is wrong with me? I could really use some help. Admiral Regulus 2,769 January 8, 2015 Share January 8, 2015 This is the same problem I have. I don't know how to overcome it, but at least I can say that you're not alone. Tumblr

Screw Loose 156 January 8, 2015 Share January 8, 2015 It's always a bit weird talking to yourself like as if to an audience when no one is there...but think about it...that's how allll the awesome youtube people probably felt at first, they are just talking to themselves too Stop over analyzing what you wrote and what you are saying, just do it! SFyr 1,982 January 8, 2015 Share January 8, 2015 The underlying issue of public speaking tends to be the fear of being judged. Basically, your focus being on what others think of you, and that unknown just consumes your thoughts until it causes you to hesitate and question yourself ceaselessly. Am I correct in this? 1 Commission Thread | Deviantart | Poniverse Tumblr | Art Tumblr

Suppose you are correct there. I'm mostly used to making amvs. So I suppose the reason I want to make these videos is to stray from the norm. SFyr 1,982 January 8, 2015 Share January 8, 2015 (edited) Suppose you are correct there. I'm mostly used to making amvs. So I suppose the reason I want to make these videos is to stray from the norm. It's always good to try doing something differently. Anyways... the cliche is to just learn to be confident in yourself and your ability, but as someone who is also terrified of public speaking and the like, I've found it a little easier to aim to just shift your focus, and catch yourself when you start dwelling too much on what other people think. You have to start acting for your own reasons, realize that's why your acting, and embrace/grow that internal motivation. Nowadays... I've built up a little bit of a shell of apathy, and acceptance of my own awkwardness. I can push through a lot of fear because I can swap my focus to something less unknown, being self improvement or my interest in the subject I'm talking about. TL;DR: it takes time, but ideally you may want to learn to focus on the subject, and the interest you have in the topic, rather than how people see you. websterhamster 203 January 11, 2015 Share January 11, 2015 Mic fright... my mom has it. As far as sounding awkward or not, try to use an outline of what you want to say, instead of a fixed script. Reading from a script, unless you're a very skilled voice actor, usually sounds stilted and weird. Ad lib as you go, following your outline. That's my advice. If you want to hear an example, my show is tonight and I never use a script. See my sig for a link.
