It was quite dark in Ponyville when Lucky left her job at the local post office. The work of sorting the mail to be delivered had gone on far longer than she thought it would today.

 

though she shouldn't have been surprised with the recent holiday.

Hearts and hooves day always brought with it a massive amount of notes, letters and gifts that simlply had to be delivered to special their respective someponies.

 

Lucky's mind was filled with the days trouble as she headed towards sugar cube corner to pick up her favorite treat before closing time.

The town of Ponyville was very dark and quiet when Lightning Dust flew down. Ponies of few numbers came and went and when she landed, her journey began. "Time for a walk..." She started her movement slowly feeling the wind past her mane. Most of the places were starting to close and mostly everypony already enter their house.  "Hmm..."

 

Lightning Dust thought as she walked among the town. She usually took these walks sometimes to relieve her stress and when she gather her thoughts, it gave her room to fly better. "All right, time to think, what happened to me today?"

Lucky Star enjoyed the crisp night air as she made her way to sugar cube corner that evening.

She couldn't help but notice how empty ponyville felt, she could only assume that the other ponies of ponyville were busy

with their special someponies.

 

Even her friend Ditzy had found herself roped into a prior engagement, though it wasn't exactly with a special somepony.

 

Lucky shivered slightly as she pushed open the door of sugar cube corner and made her way to the counter.

"Getting in rather late tonight, aren't ya, Lucky? long day at work?"

 

"you know it," replied Lucky who allowed her self an exasperated sigh, "could I get the usual?" continued Lucky.

 

with a nod Mrs cake grab a disposable box and began to gather an assortment of chocolate doughnuts and sat it on the counter in front of Lucky.

 

Lucky took the box's handle in her mouth and levitated some bits out her saddle bag and waved her goodbye's as she headed out of the door and back onto the street.

 

That's when she saw it, an unfamiliar Pegasus had landed nearby.

Rave entered the town, feeling a relief. His journey was finally over and he had arrived home. He had been exploring the mountains near the Crystal Empire and mapping it down. "Good to be back to nice and quiet little Ponyville". He walked down the street, looking around, checking if there had been made any changes since he was here the last time.

Lightning Dust had being think a lot since her training and decided to take a break. She glanced up to her a sudden noise come from ahead of her. "What was that?" she whispered, slowly stepping . Sounds of another pony stepping close as she walked. Looking ahead, she sees nothing but the lights laid upon the ground and the light from above her. 

 

She kept going, keeping a careful watch of her surroundings until she bumps into something. "Huh?" Lightning Dust stumbled backwards uncontrollably, trying to catch her balance. "Who's there?"

Lucky was surprised to see another pony out and about in ponyville.

 

She hadn't seen a single pony since leaving work and here was one running into her.

 

"Hel- Hello," Lucky stammered, as she backed away, a blush coloring her blue cheeks.

 

She had always been a bit shy meeting new ponies.

Rave spotted two mares that seemed to be talking to each other. "What are ponies doing out here at this hour?" he thought. He decided to watch in the distance, try to spot anything that he could use for cover. Rave didn't usually spy on ponies, but he was quite curious since he had never seen these ponies around in Ponyville before. But he had been been returning from a few months journey, so things might have changed.

Lightning Dust glanced at the pony with curious interest. She wasn't planning on meeting somepony, not to mention see another one. She had always taken this way to get away from them and just be herself. Let's see what happens....Lightning Dust stood her ground. "Hey!" She extended her hoof and smiled proudly, lifting her chin. "I'm Lightning Dust!"

Meeting new ponies is..... difficult.

 

was the normal response from Lucky when her friends offered to introduce them to somepony they knew. when she did make a friend, it was with somepony she met by chance, often in a controlled environment.

 

this however was not a controlled environment and the shock of seeing a stranger had not completely left her, not that her manners had gone too.

 

she backed away from Lightning hoof's outreached hoof, her mind reeled with possible excuses, and just before turning the other way and fleeing, she threw a muttered cry over her shoulder.

 

"I- I have to go... Feed my cat!"

 

"oh no," Lucky thought, "if I ever see that pony again, I'll have to buy a cat!"

 

Her mind still reeling, she ran unseeing into a random direction.

 

just as the thought of Fluttershy having a cat she might adopt crossed her mind, she collided with yet another strange pony.

 

Dazed and confused from the impact, she looked up to meet his eyes.

Rave looked at the pony that had run into him. Hopefully she wouldn't realize he had been observing the awkward.... conversation. He extended a hoof towards her. "Are you alright. I'm sorry, I shouldn't have been standing in the way" he offered her a friendly smile. "Please don't ask my name" he thought to himself.

Lucky took the stallion's hoof without thinking and pulled herself up, stammering as she did so.

 

"I'm- I- I'm so sor- sorry!" she cried out, "ar- are- you... okay?" she asked, looking down to the ground and backing away to a safe distance.

 

"that was so dumb of me!" she thought scolding herself, "Now I can't leave with out looking like a complete idiot... not that I haven't done that already..."

 

Lucky looked back up at the new comer, he was a unicorn she hadn't seen before...

 

"wh- what's your name?"

Lightning Dust paused. What? Now confused, she put her hoof to the ground in spite. "Her cat?" She peered around, still wondering what happened. Never had she encountered a pony like that, and didn't know how to react. "Huh." She shook it off and continued to press on, her mind stuck on the peculiar pony she saw.

 

"Why did she run away?" She shook her head. "Well, her loss..."

"Damn, she asked me" Rave thought. "I am Rave Darkmane. I live here in Ponyville. I don't believe we have met. I have just returned from a 4 month journey, exploring the mountains of the Crystal Empire. I am glad to see some new faces and I am glad to be back home".

Lucky couldn't help But notice that Rave hadn't seemed too thrilled at having been questioned.

He had over shared quite a lot too... "maybe he doesn't like being asked questions, so he was getting the information out, just to prevent them....?"

 

In any case, it would would become a little awkward for them both if she just stared at him without replying.

 

"Oh Celestia," she thought with sudden realization, "I'm staring! He must think I'm such a freak."

 

after several seconds, she spoke.

 

"So... y- you've been to the Crystal empire? I was there for the last Equestria games.... I didn't know anypony went... into the mountains, it must have been terribly exciting..... I just moved here not too long ago.." commented lucky, not meeting Raves eyes.

"Well, not really. There were a bunch of colorful crystals. No dark ones though. That was the reason I was exploring it in the first place..... and of course I get payed for it. I map down areas I explore with my mapping orb". "I hope she doesn't ask about my reasoning for looking for dark crystals. Why did I even tell her why I was there. What is with you Rave. Do you want to reveal that you are a dark magician that supports King Sombra?" Rave thought to himself.

"O- oh...," said Lucky thoughtfully, "You must go to some incredible places to not be impressed by the mountains there... I remeber seeing them from the train, they were really beautiful."

 

Lucky couldn't help but be curious about the job he had there and she hadn't seen a 'mapping orb' in pony before, though she had read about them before in school.

 

"are... you happy to be back ho-" lucky stopped herself mid sentence and looked back in the direction from which she had run.

 

"wait, I should probably apologize to- where'd she go?"

Rave moved beside Lucky and looked in the same direction as she. He put a hoof above his head to try and see if it would help. "Who are you looking for? I don't see anypony. And apologize? I wouldn't want to get in the way". Rave had been standing a bit wrong and fell over, his saddlebag spilling its content. Out came a large black book, a black orb, a black shard, some dark crystals and a red/orange horn. The first thing Rave does is hide the red/orange horn. He then proceeds to carefully place the other stuff back in the saddlebag, cursing himself for his clumsiness.

"Hmm..." It was no use. The pony she had saw was stuck in her head. Of all of the things ponies had said to her, this was one of the oddest. in terms of annoyed, Lightning Dust grew pretty angry. "What did i do?!" She said, stomping her hoof as she walked. "I don't think i was mean but.." 

 

Lightning Dust sat on the ground, pondering on the event. She wanted it to go away but for some reason she couldn't. "Okay,Lightning Dust..stop worrying..." Ugh...back to my flying techniques...

"Oh, I'm sorry, are you okay?" she said guiltily, "I... thought you said you hadn't seen any dark crystals?... I didn't even know they came in that color, pure black!"

 

it was fairly obvious at this point, that Lucky star, though fairly well versed in spoken magic, knew next to nothing about the less commonly used, 'Crystal magic'.

 

"Oh, you asked a question... I was.... a little rude to that pony earlier.... I should probably find her..."

 

Lucky, was curious by nature, and was too nervous to ask him directly, to help her find the pony she had wronged.

 

"I wish... I had somepony to help me look... she could be anywhere by now."

 

She hinted, blatantly.

She once again kept pressing forward, trying to concentrate. So i did a loop last time..and i tested my agility...I should go for a double,no, triple! Lightning Dust looked around as she thought, seeing through the moonlight. Catching a glimpse of the view before her, two ponies appeared as she grew close. Oh no... The ponies grew lighter and with each step, she recognized one of them.  "That pony." She halted in her tracks, wondering if she was seen.

"Ugh, she had to ask that, didn't she" a voice within Rave's head said. "Quiet you" Rave thought. "I--I could help you find this... missing pony of yours. Black crystals are banned within the Crystal Empire, they don't sell them the----". "Stupid stupid stupid stupid. That was information that you didn't have to reveal" he thought to himself. He tried to divert Lucky's attention somewhere else so that she wouldn't ask any more question or somehow get him to spill the beans so easily. He looked around and spotted the pegasus. "All I see is this pegasus" he pointed with his hoof.

Lightning Dust was too late. The attention was now be diverted on her and she had to act fast. No matter what she thought, she couldn't run. "Uh..." She began to choke on her breath and slowly approach the ponies that resided in the light. "Hey, how's is going?" Lightning Dust began to get nervous, which was new to her. Oh great...Come on,Lightning Dust...It's not that bad. As she stood in front of them, she forced a smile upon her face.
