Lisa 5,553 March 9, 2015 Share March 9, 2015 (edited) a very small case of serious autism. Isn't that like an oxymoron or something? lol Anyway, I don't have autism. But I'm curious, what are the benefits of autism? Edited March 9, 2015 by Colour
Haruhi-chan 486 March 9, 2015 Share March 9, 2015 Don't say 'suffer'. Must people with autism aren't suffering unless they have it really badly, I guess. I'm one of those ones that don't suffer from it because I've learned to embrace it. As for benefits, a lot of autistic people are gifted in many areas. Some of us have picture memories like Temple Grandin. Some are talented, like me, with written expression over verbal/emotional expression... the list pretty much goes on. 1 x Haruhi Suzumiya x goddess of the world twitter
Pucksterv 4,508 March 9, 2015 Share March 9, 2015 (edited) They are different kinds of form of austisme. Austism usually is the problem that ye cant learn a specific skill. Asperger is a form of Autism, people with this are usually not good with social interraction. On the upside, people with Asperger are usually really good in something else and have a higher iQ. My brother for instance has Aspergers. For him social interaction is hard. But computer science is something he's really good at. Autism can also be a dfficulty learning. Often discribed as ADD or ADHD. No control over emotions is also a form of autism. ODD is for instance a form of autisme where someone can't control there anger. PNDNOS is a form of autism which bassicaly means that your behaviour is different from others but they don't know what it is. So there is something wrong with you, but they dont know what. Overal you shouldn't be worried about austism, It just means that you handle some situatuions in life different then others. But since we are all different, we are all autisic. Probably Lee 197 March 9, 2015 Author Share March 9, 2015 (edited) They tend to be smart, care less what people think about them, talented, socially awkward... there is more. I joke around about it, but i think i might have a mild case of it. No way of knowing really whether i have it or not, but still cool. Edited March 9, 2015 by Lee KILL IT! Haruhi-chan 486 March 9, 2015 Share March 9, 2015 *sigh* ODD and ADHD/ADD are not forms of Autism. I have both ADHD and autism... so if ADHD was autism, then how could I have both conditions? x Haruhi Suzumiya x goddess of the world twitter
Pucksterv 4,508 March 9, 2015 Share March 9, 2015 ADD is a form of autsim, ADHD is usually a disorder what comes with autism. So in my eyes it's kinda a form of autism. But you can also have ADHD without being autistic. And you can have multiple forms of autism, it's possible DeviantArt I Twitter I Livestream I Ponysona I Commissions

Because medical professionals are going to tell you that they are not forms of autism. Also, you can't have multiple forms of autism either. I'm not trying to act like an expert here but... I know a little more about autism than most probably do after experience and constant thorough research. Any autistic person will tell you as well that you cannot have multiple forms of autism. If you mean that your brother has it, your father has it and your mom has it for example... then yes that can happen. My parents both have undiagnosed forms of autism as well. The way you were saying it was that someone could for example have Asperger Syndrome and PDD-NOS, which no... that can't happen. x Haruhi Suzumiya x goddess of the world twitter

MLPFanatic34 3,234 March 10, 2015 Share March 10, 2015 I have Aspergers, a minor form of autism. So I’m autistic. I have Aspergers myself, but have gotten much better in terms of social issues and overall little things, I still have my problems though, but I have a lot of help given to me by family and friends. Roketsune 388 March 10, 2015 Share March 10, 2015 Going by another thread, there are actually a substantial number of autistic bronies. So, you definitely aren't alone. As for the discussion over the advantages of autism and whether or not people 'suffer' from it... I'm sure I've told people I suffer from it, as it's the chief cause for me being permanently disabled. That being said, that status actually brings certain advantages that normal people lack, and I do have advantages from being autistic. Being autistic is akin to creating a character who was given certain severe deficiencies to pay for skills and bonuses. I'm immune to certain mental fallacies which so many other people fall prey to (self-esteem has never been an issue, for example), I'm very insightful in some things, I'm charmingly idiosyncratic to people who are worth my attention, I am capable of masterful planning and execution, I have a great deal of cognitive energy (which facilitates elaborate planning and contemplation), and am quite imaginative. Being on disability also allows me to attend to all medical and psychological needs, and allows me to act with near-complete autonomy. However, I'm relatively poor in verbal communication, it takes a great deal of effort and energy to achieve optimal results (and I easily botch the first 1 or 2 attempts at something), I am emotionally very sensitive to negative imagery, so much of the aforementioned mental activity is involuntarily diverted to various things, even minor excursions or events require a prolonged amount of processing and analysis, and I am highly prone to overexertion and exhaustion. So, while I'm very autonomous and have an excellent understanding of my emotional aspects and how to improve them, my maximum forward progress per day is comparatively low. I have to be very careful in how I allocate mental resources and how much I expose myself to external issues, or progress will grind to a halt and I'll be in a state of heightened anxiety. mars 4,862 March 10, 2015 Share March 10, 2015 , I'd suggest going to see a doctor and asking him or her rather than self-diagnosing. We also already have a thread about autistic ponies here: http://mlpforums.com/topic/111726-do-you-have-a-form-of-autism/ Locking!
