MLP Fan Fiction Crossovers: What do you think of them?

It's usually not done well, but I've been surprised enough times to be willing to accept that just about anything can be done if it's done right.

The only MLP crossover I remember reading in particular was one with Homestuck, and though the fic itself was silly and ridiculous it had some fun moments. I'd say it was worth the price of admission just to read about Terezi interacting with the world, and if you know anything about Terezi, then you can probably guess why ;)

aw come on now if done correctly crossovers can be fun ! ( especially SP or GL ones )

When I read fan fictions, I look for stories I can take seriously. For some reason I can't take crossovers very seriously. I agree, they can be fun, but I just can't get into them.

It's true they do get a bit far fetched at times .. Usually because the wrirer is combining two similar but different story lines .

Something borrowed combined with something also borrowed. >_<  Even if one of the greatest, most celebrated authors that has ever lived put pen to paper and wrote the most beautiful, riveting prose that had ever graced a page, the resulting story would still fall miserably short of excellent were the piece an MLP fanfic crossover.

It's one thing to write an MLP fanfic.  To explore a preexisting world in ways canon has not permitted; though even a solely-MLP-based fanfic will never represent the very pinnacle of literary excellence.  But it's another thing to say, "All right.  Not only am I NOT going to create my own world or characters for this piece, I'm going to inexplicably merge it with an entirely different (and oftentimes ridiculously incompatible) world and / or characters that I also didn't create."  This is not imagination and creativity at work.  This is, "I like mashed potatoes.  But I also like M&Ms.  Hmmm...  What if I were to mix a handful of M&Ms into my mashed potatoes?!"  And then a bunch of people complimented M&M&Ms guy for his culinary brilliance.

So...  I obviously think they're great.

I personally like mlp crossovers, but that's a tricky subject in this fandom; and even out of it. I know a lot of people dislike mlp crossovers, but many others (Such as me) enjoy it. From what I've seen there's a lot of people out of the fandom who dislike it very much when something they enjoy get's an mlp crossover. But hey, If you don't like it, ignore it. If you enjoy it, have at it.

I really should get back to my Kim Possible / My Little Pony crossover. I'm going for comedy with it. I also think I have a good "voice" for Kim and Ron. They become trapped (as ponies) in Equestria, after Dr. Drakken's Dimensional Transmogrifier seriously malfunctions. Ron slipped and hit his head on it, causing a VACUUM TUBE to break!

(It's an old school doomsday type machine Drakken bought at a garage sale from Doctor Demento, after Doctor Demento decided to subjugate the world through quirky novelty songs!)
