That's a very interesting question. After I was waylaid by several bandits was when I suppose I truly realized I needed to learn further than my basic military training; snipers like me got the bare minimum of swordsmanship training. After that incident, I went to the Royal Guard and through a advanced training regimen for their elite soldiers, by the end of which I was able to wield a sword rather well, considering that unlike a unicorn, I simply had my bare hooves to work with. After that, working with a blade became a hobby for me, and during my travels across the subcontinent, I made a point of visiting with the masters such as Montoya. In a roundabout sort of way, I learned, and gradually I was able to fight at a master level- at the unfortunate detriment of my ranged abilities.
