"Everypony can wield swords in their mouths. Not well without training, but they can. And you're not really 'on par' with an Earth Pony until you can break rocks with your bare hooves or crush skulls with them. Can you ever be like that? No, not really. The two conflicting ideologies might have messed with your confidence in magic subconsciously, but I didn't really mean to just forget the other training. Just integrate it. It's still uncomfortable to go from trotting on all fours to fighting with your sword. I honestly think you should use telekinesis to wield it at all times, but that requires focus." I wondered if he had enough focus to learn this.

At the explanation that he could sense aura and spirit I wasn't very impressed. "I can see mana signatures too. It's not really all that complicated. As for not needing magic, Sparky says his analysis yielded that you can and use Dark Magic sometimes. That's magic, and a higher form of magic. If you can do higher magic which is generally forbidden, you should be able to use basic magic like levitating things. I still sense your mana flow is messed up, or you'd be levitating everything in the room right now, as well as Sparky and me. The mana expenditures are extremely low right know, so something that takes effort should be easy. But please don't abuse it. It's meant for you to practice telekinesis so you can better use it." I was impressed he as getting it and turned the Magitek down a but. "You shoulnt be struggling to lift one sword."

"Have I ever wanted to be another race? Pegasus actually. It was my desire to fly that caused me to create Sparky's flight form. I can improve it to where it works better but I've been busy so I just keep putting it off." I sighed, wondering when *he* would train *me* as that was what we had come here for in the first place. Ah well, all in good time. "Keep it up." I said as I clapped my hooves again.

"yeah, yeah. you raise good points." he said dimly. "shoot me down, why dont ya..."

he was getting the hang of it, swishing the sword around with apparent ease. but hey, the machine was still doing about half the work, but they were steadily lowering the dial. "yeah, im getting the hang of this. though, im sure my current fighting style is...'ingrinaed'"

The beam pierced the second of the water dragons, causing it to explode violently into droplets of water.

"Well, who am I to argue with that?" she said, grinning. Her horn glowed, and water began to pour from the same orb. Instead of attacking, however, it began to turn into steam, slowly drifting up to the top of the room.

From in front of Sleight Mist, three crackling red barriers appeared. They began to trace Rune as he moved through the room.

rune tensed. those barriers were bad news, one hit from them was almost a guaranteed knock-out. and there were three.

he ran over all two-hundred-forty-six runes and glyphs in his book. he was out of staffs, so any wands summoned would be pointless. he summoned the wands anyways, and tossed them at the barriers, which bounced off in various directions.

now...everything seemed to be in place.

"Oi, Sleight!" he called out, as he ran from the barriers, "you do realize wands and staffs have multiple charges, right?" he said, "so...why do you think i dropped them after one use?"

he grinned. "to do THIS!" he concentrated on all the staffs and wands in the room, which all stood at attention. "you activated my alu-card."

the staffs all shot a blast, each individual one amplified five-fold by the various wands. the very essence of earth, lightning, wind, water, and fire all hurtled towards her.

'unless she can jump unnaturally high, theres no way she's getting outta this unscathed.' he thought, 'and if she wants to use her barriers, she'll have to stop her current attack, giving me yet another chance to formulate a strategy.' he grinned. 'victory is likely, and a draw is even more so. losing is astronomical.'

Kevin was on the train to Bangcolt. He was in search of a new species of insects that he heard from many a traveler that was exclusive in and around the lakes and trees of the city. He kept his swarm uner control the way there, and got off the train while reading his book of Equestrian Entomology and wearing an unsurprised, neutral expression. "Hmph. The new species is here. I can feel it." and with his book in his hoof, he slowly began walking into town.

Anette should have been angry, but she could only shake her head slowly. Even though Electron had all but spit in her face, seeing him lying on the ground, bruised and broken, he just looked pitiful.

"You don't have to say anything else. I think we're done here," she said breathlessly.

Heartthrob nocked an arrow and fired. As she did so, however, she altered her aim, instead heading for a non-vital part of Electron's chest. The anesthetic that the arrow was tipped in would put him out in minutes.

"They're not just dolls, they're my family," she said finally, "Electron, i'm so sorry you can't understand that."

-------

Sleight Mist could barely react, let alone move as the beams struck her. They exploded brilliantly, lighting up the dark hall in a miniature rainbow of colors before dying out into silence.

When it was all over, Sleight Mist stood in the center, a defiant expression on her face. As she struggled to hold herself up. It seemed to be only a reflex, however, as she almost immediately collapsed to the ground, smoke rising from her body from taking the brunt of all of the attacks.

She seemed to have trouble even breathing as she lay on the floor, gasping like a fish, but she managed to get out one word, as raspy as chalk on a blackboard.

"Gotcha."

Her body exploded into water particles, as three darkly tinted barriers shifted out of view opposite the floating orb Rune had saw Sleight Mist start from, revealing her wickedly grinning face.

"It pays to be early, you know," she said loudly. Her horn glowed, and from the ceiling, the steam that had been building up began to solidify; enormous ice spikes began to rain down on the field.

-------

"Well, that's terrible."

Trixie's eyes widened a little, realizing too late she was being insensitive.

"I apologize, that was rude of me. I think, though, that if you want to train, there's not really any better place than here. Fighters like you have come from all over Equestria, for some reason, including myself."

She grinned.

"Yes, I happen to be contestant, as well. In fact, I just recently went up against Twilight Sparkle herself. I lost, regrettably, but it was one hoof of a fight, and I think I gained something greater than I would have by winning, so i'm not too caught up about it. Their used to be a time I would have been, though... being in this arena has a way of changing a pony."

@,

As Electron was hit, all he did was laugh and speak before he would pass out, "Hahaha! You reallyy have some mental issues don't you? Dolls are nothing but inanimate toys for little girls...I don't think you could ever understand because there's something wrong with your brain. I may have lost this fight, but I have nothing else to lose on the inside. It seems like you have all but lost your mind a long time ago. Heh, I wouldn't want a crazy, idiotic, and air-headed mare like you in my presence, let alone as my friend. What a jackass Will is for choosing YOU of all ponies. Outta my sight!" he then fell unconscious and fell over, done.

Kazas continued his ascent while hearing Darkrai's affectionate claims. She could not see it, nor could he perform the simple gesture in this form, but if he could, he would be smiling. In a gentle, yet grand voice, he proclaimed his statement to the mare.

" Darkrai, this is the greatest experience of your life SO FAR! Your path has intertwined with my own, and now, we shall travel it together! Coincidentally, when our roads joined, so too, did the paths of my closest friends, and it is my intention to introduce them to you very soon! You will form connections, and realize that should something ever happen to myself, that you still wouldn't be alone! Darkrai, later, after we find Ice Blizzard... Would you... Accompany me to the Leovian Embassy, and then to the front of the arena? My friend Lorec, whom you said you wanted to meet, is having a match soon, and it would be very pleasing to have you at my side as I cheer for my friend! Of course, if not, I understand, but it is my sincerest wish to be there for him. It is a special match... And it will also reveal something to you, about myself and my compatriots. It is nothing terrible, I assure you, but it may very well be a grand spectacle!"

He said, searching the ground from on high. Far away, in the skyline, a familiar group of orange and red hues could be seen, speeding along to catch up to Darkrai and Kazas, sqwaking as though they were cheering... The Phoenixes from earlier.

[ SYUREN ]

The Green Pegasus was escorting Sifana, fully dressed in his combat leathers and spear mounted on his backside. His silver mane was somewhat messy, as he had hurried to gather his paraphanelia at the behest of Sifana. He spoke in a somewhat annoyed, bored tone.

" He's probably passed out drunk in an alley somewhere. Biggest prob O' this frickin' town; WE HAVE TOO MANY DAMN ALLEYS."

Sifana spoke up, slightly worried still about her father.

" brother Ren, please just help me find papa... I'm worried about him..."

Syuren, with a bit of sympathy in his voice, sighed and spoke in an apologetic tone.

" yeah, okay. Sorry I'm worked up over it. Big guy shouldn't be out drinkin' and doin' stupid stuff though. Hell, he's probably gotten into that 'shroom s*** again and went bucking wild-"

A voice came from behind both of them. It was Vorrin, sneaky as always, even if unintentional.

" Syuren."

Syuren, turning around almost immediately, looked as though he had almost suffered a heart attack.

" Vorrin! Bro, you gotta quit doin' that! "

" Sorry. Either way, Kazas has summoned is to the front of the arena entrance. Coat-of-arms formation with Lorec's unit presenting. Spread the word further, I already have a little, but you're our fastest, and word travels with you quickly. I will take Sifana to him."

" wait, woah, woah, WOAH. you know where he is at?"

" yes I do."

" how?"

" I have my sources. Do not forget that my band of acolytes have eyes and ears everywhere. we ARE the stealth unit, after all."

" yeah, yeah, I'll go spread the word like a ( CENSORED )"

Vorrin's mouth dropped almost figuratively to ground level, while Sifana just stood there, confused. Vorrin, with an angry scowl, spoke.

" Really, Ren? In front of the child?"

" whhhaaaaaaaaaaaaaattttt? She doesn't know what that is!"

Sifana spoke quietly, still confused.

" Uncle Vorrin, what is a ( CENSORED )?"

Vorrin, looking around nervously, answered.

" uhhhhh... Well... You see... Your father will explain when you are older."

" but-"

" WHEN YOU ARE OLDER. now, Sifana, come with me, and leave Ren to his job. I'll take you to your papa. Ren, for the love of Luna... DO NOT DO ANYTHING IDIOTIC."

Syuren spoke, chuckling a bit as he took off.

" no promises there!"

As he sped away flying low throughout the town, Syuren started yelling at the top of his lungs.

" AYEEEEEE!!!! D.R.O. Peeps, ALL Y'ALL NEED TO GATHER UP AT THE FRONT OF THE ARENAAAAAAAAAAAAA! BIG HORNY'S URSA UNIT ALL UP IN COAT OF ARMS POSITION, EVEN TWO HUNDRED SPLIT DOWN THE MIDDLE, BABY!"

________

[VORRIN]

" I swear, he is an idiot..."

Vorrin said.

" come along now Sifana, and don't worry. Lorec is safe."

@,

Darkrai couldn't help but happily sob as Kazas spoke. When she wiped her eyes, she replied, "Oh yes of course! I'd love to!" But then she looked to the ground with a frown, "But the forest and the town itself is so vast, I doubt that we'll have any actual luck finding him."

Aknor sighed, "Don't worry about it. The past is in the past and nothing changes that. Still, tell me how you emded up a merchant, you said earlier you were an illusionist and stage performer. How did that happen? Were you robbed?" He realized he was jumping to conclusions and just awaited her answer, trying pace his questions a bit more and regretting his lack of patience.

The intercom blared.

"Attention ponies!" The match between Anette and Electron has been decided! Winner: Anette!"

The intercom fell silent.

@Orion Caelum,

...With a flash, the stage turned back to normal. Anette now stood in the arena's plain white room next to the unconscious Electron Wave Storm, badly burnt and incredibly tired now that the adrenaline rush had worn off. Her dolls floated around her, seemingly unharmed, though Glory's cloth was burnt in several places, and would need to be fixed.

She began to head for the exit, when a unicorn stallion with a gray coat stepped through, neatly blocking the way. The two of them stared at each other, eyes wide as memories poured through both of their minds. Some were better than others

"Mary," he began with a gasp, "is that yo-"

Hero was on him in a flash, sword drawn and aimed to cut before he'd even finished his sentence. The stallion gritted his teeth in response, though he responded with an almost coldly casual voice.

"Remember Patience?"

And just like that, it was over; Hero almost came to a dead stop as Anette's emotions pitched, robbing energy from her dolls. Tears began to roll non-stop from her eyes as she dropped to the floor, choking, unable to control herself long enough to think clearly.

"Why did it have to be like this, Mary?" he said with a sigh as he walked up to her. "All we want is what's best for Equestria; you know we do. That means it's time to start growing up."

His horn glowed, his voice echoing with power.

"Give us the dolls, and come home."

zenru narrowed his eyes. this should prove interesting.

just in case he tried to hurt his friend, he muttered 'stage 7' under his breath. he would be prepared to intersect the moment anyone decided to draw a weapon. 'nopony hurts my friends, and gets away with it.'

Rune

"ARE YOU SERIOUS?!" he groaned, touching his book once more, and sending a larger-then-normal fireball at the ice, once again dulling the points, rendering them harmless.

he was running over his spells, going over potential strategies. "...hm..." he watched sleight. making sure she doesn't pull a clone again. "how about..."

he flipped to the end of his book, to the more powerful spells. "alright, lets see how you fare against these..."

touching his horn to his book momentarily, he sent four pages at her. in mid-air, the pages burst into a blue flame, and four animals came out.

"spiritual animal spell!" rune cackled, "rune of the phoenix, bear, hydra, and- oh, dammit, looks like the dragon one was a dud"

nevertheless, three ghost-looking animals barraged towards her. admittedly, the hydra was smaller then it's real counterpart, but still.

rune started darting around, looking for his staffs, and wands.

Wilhelm, at the conclusion of the match, had immediately started to head towards the fighters' tunnels, intending to congratulate Annette- and, possibly, tell her about why he was late for the match. Gathering his things, he walked down and made it just in time to greet her. He came in talking, and said "Hi, Annette! You were... amazing in that match. Not that you're not amazing normally, bu-"

At that point, he saw the other stallion, and his eyes narrowed in suspicion and anger. With a tone that managed to convey the fact that he was barely keeping himself in tight check, Wilhelm said "Hello, Herr Doktor. What would you happen to be doing in this fine place after I informed you that there wasn't anything here for you?"

@,

"Before opening hours...? Wonder why she didn't just kick me out to begin with....?" he shrugged off the thought due to its lack of importance.

He then followed AJ up to her attic, "As matter a fact I do know the princesses, I even live with them, well at least at their castle. They don't sleep there and they are usually busy doing something else, so Yeah..." he trailed off, then fixed his gaze upon her, "Actually, I would talk to them but I'm not sure I can," he looked desperate, real desperate.

"Applejack, if I, um tell you something then you've got to tell no pony, do you think you can keep quiet?" he asked with pleading eyes

@@Orion Caelum, (1 day up, you can have Will TRY to look when ready. ;) )

Blizzard, while still within his cryostasis mindscape, could feel he was losing power, "Ah. Ow....crap. I think midnight was hit awhile ago and that the sun should be raised any minute now by Celestia. Dammit! 2 days left, what can I do?" In the real world, his body stayed motionless and buried under dirt near the flowing river.

Kevin continued to walk through the town in search of the new species and had obtained a map of the town, "The lake is apparently to the Northwest." He then began to walk in the direction of the lake.

"It's simple, actually." Dr. Mind said cooly, masking the fact that he was incredibly unnerved at the tone in Professor Wilhelm's voice.

"Anette is a ward under the care of the Society. We happened upon her by chance, when her parents went seeking help after they found out about how special she and her dolls truly were. Naturally, seeing the potential for one of the biggest advancements in Equestrian history in her unique connection, we were more than happy to offer to help them out, provided we could study the magnificent things, of course."

It was at this point Anette opened her mouth, clearly intending to say something. Dr. Mind caught the note, and, horn glowing, said casually.

"Don't be rude, Mary, please let me finish."

She immediately fell silent, and Dr. Mind turned back to the professor.

"So we took her under her care, and things were fine. Really doctor, she was quite happy; she received a fine education, and never wanted for anything. It all worked out as it should have... until the day came where we decided to finally test if we could replicate the same magical connection that Mary had with her dolls, to see if it would be possible to bind them to other objects, or even other ponies. Of course, to do that, we would first have to sever the connections, a process which she didn't take to well at all."

He shook his head.

"We managed to pry the connection off of her first doll, Patience, but immediately after, it simply reverted into an inert, lifeless object, and Mary herself became extremely upset, to say the least. We tried to restrain her in order to get her to calm down, but her and the dolls were completely out of control; they fought their through our researchers and out of the facility, injuring several of us in the exchange. The last we saw of her since then was her hitching a ride on a traveling nearby caravan and disappearing. We've been looking for her ever since, in order to bring her back to the facility. To us."

Something quite suddenly came to Dr. Mind, something that had unbelievably escaped his mind this entire time. He coughed, dread balling up in the pit of his stomach at the thought of the response to his next question.

"Wait, I thought you said you didn't know Mary. Who is she to you?"

-------

Somehow pulling on even more water in the orb, Sleight Mist magically yanked on the connection. Hard.

A miniature tidal wave spilled out of the orb as water streamed out, crashing heavily onto the floor. From the massive amount of water, three water dragons similar to her previous ones sprung up, beginning to do battle with the Rune's fire prjoections in the air. From her position, she could see Rune running, and she attempted to freeze his hooves to the floor, ice trailing after him as he moved.

-------

Applejack automatically replied. "Cross my heart, and hope to fly, stick a cupcake in my eye."

She looked up, slightly embarrassed to be caught doing it.

"Uh, sorry, just this silly thing that me and the girls like to do all the time. But it means a lot to us, and it means a lot to me. Your secret's safe with me."

She sat down on a wine barrel that had been set up for just such an occasion.

"Now what exactly is this big secret? I figure it must be a whole lot of hooey, if it involves the princesses."

--------

"No, I wasn't robbed, though I have had that happened to me from time to time."

She took a slightly reproachful look before continuing.

"No. On one of my small-time gigs at a place called Ponyville, the crowd suddenly turned on me, and I took things way too far in the exchange. It eventually ended up with an Ursa Minor attacking the town, and even though the incident itself was in no way my fault, it did extensive damage to my career. Overnight, I went from being Equestria wide famous to becoming a laughingstock, having to go through several unpleasant jobs just to skip by, including a few weeks on a rock farm that I would rather soon forget. Eventually, I decided to come back to this, my old personal hobby. I hated it, at first, but, then again, I hated pretty much everything at that point. Now, its not so bad. Pays the bills, at any rate."

"Wait, I thought you said you didn't know Mary. Who is she to you?

Coolly, Wilhelm replied "Somepony a great deal more important to me than you, I'm afraid. Somepony I trust. Somepony I like. Especially after what you've told me." He moved next to Annette, meant to convey that he was protective of her, and he also raised an eyebrow, as if daring for anypony to question his authority. "What, exactly, was the goal of this research? Obviously, if you consider basic harmonic field theory, the effect was created by the harmonic field distortion and subsequent magical involuntary burst release as well as the fact that Annette was casting a powerful spell at the same time. All you needed was to wait and to find another unicorn with a dollmaking talent. If you wished, I could have even reccommended a testing format to create optimal likelihood of the cutie mark's appearance coinciding with the spell release."

The eyebrow raised slightly higher, and the voice gained a contemptuous undertone. "Yet, instead, you take the quickest way possible, resulting in the death of what is -and was- effectively a sentient pony and psychological damage to your test subject instead of waiting for the proper course to take place. I am an astronomer, Dr. Mind. I'm used to playing the long game of science; believe me, you aren't going to make major scientific discoveries every two decades in any field, and it's unlikely in astronomy that you'll ever make an important discovery within your lifetime. Princess Luna keeps a close rein on her powers, and it's not often that a new type of star or planet is born within her sky. I find it... disappointing... that you would choose to do something that would break the experiment in such an asinine way simply for the chance it would pay off. This shows a disrespect for your fellow ponies as well as- excuse my remark- a..." Wilhelm paused.

"..how may I put this... unsure founding on the scientific method. Science, as there is in so many unfortunate but needed cases, may as well be always suffixed by 'the long game'. True discovery cannot be accomplished in short periods, nor can it be accomplished through the inconsiderate harm of your fellow beings. Hopefully, in the future, you will discover this for yourself. If not, well, your funding may be mysteriously cut and reappropriated this following fiscal quarter, especially if I hear any more stories of pony experimentation beyond simple thought experiments, double-blinds, and the like. Futhermore... What did you honestly expect? The connection is what makes the dolls magical, not any intrinsic properties. They contain parts of Annette's soul and magic, as has been evidenced through nonviolent observation on my part, and not only by killing the first doll did you kill what, in effect, was a living being, you also killed a part of Annette's actual soul. Can you blame her for reacting as she did? Imagine your intrinsic self being killed, a part of yourself on the deepest level dying in agony for a grand total of.... nothing. Zip. Zero. Nada. Nothing at all; no data was achieved from the death of a sentient or even possibly sapient equinid. Then, go ahead and blame her for what she did to preserve the rest of her soul, perhaps even to preserve her sanity. 'Let him who is blameless cast the first stone', I believe the old proverb says. Art thou blameless, Doctor?" Wilhelm waited for a response, practically exuding silent judgement.

Kazas had slowed a bit in air.... The familiar hues would soon catch up with them, and sure enough, they did. It was the group of Phoenixes from earlier, surrounding him and Darkrai in the sky! All of them, squawking loudly in joy, as if they were children, witnessing their father coming home from a long day of work, wanting to play before bed time.

In a boisterous voice, kazas spoke again.

" that's why we have hundreds of friends to help search for him!"

It was then that Kazas let out a mighty screech, and begun to fly low. The legion of Phoenixes following them would soon accompany them, but Kazas made sure the descent was slow. He wanted Darkrai to enjoy herself, as well as being able to search the ground level more thoroughly.

"And Darkrai... While we are searching for Ice Blizzard... I just want to let you know that I love you. And that it is a joy to have you so close to me. You fill a void that was otherwise irreparable, even by my compatriots... Tell me Darkrai... Do you have a dream?"

In this world, is the destiny of mankind controlled by some transcendental entity or law? Is it like the hand of God, hovering above? At least it is true, that man has no control... Even over his own will.

@,

Darkrai smiled as she heard the Phoenix that was her love speak. When she heard his question about dreams, she pondered for a moment before speaking, "Yes. Yes I do. I always dreamt of making my parents proud..." she then opened up a necklace with her parents' pictures, "I always wanted to make them happy and follow their hoofsteps. But I became blinded by revenge for them, but that was before I realized what really mattered to me: ........You...."

Dr.Mind took a long pause, and his horn stopped glowing. Immediately, Anette leaned against Wilhelm. Placing her head over his neck, she positively buried herself into it, shivering like a leaf.

"No, i'm not," he said finally. "But you must understand. We were desperate; Princess Celestia was already pulling on our funding because we had failed to produce anything noteworthy for quite some time. We were barely getting enough to scrub by, then Mary comes along like a gift from the heavens, and everything seemed to start falling into place. We did everything we could to advance our research; we took chances, we cut corners, and we messed up, I think more than we ever thought possible. I'm so sorry."

@,

(Let's have everyone get pissed at EWS. you'll know it's him, because he's happy that IB's dead.... ;) )

By that time, Electron had been long gone on a stretcher to the hospital, and when he woke up, he was in a hospital bed, "Hmph. Lost again. Oh well, if snowball's dead, that's all that matters. Hell, I've got absolutely nothing to lose at this point anyway." He then eyed a notepad and pencil on his beside table with a lamp, "Heeeey. Why should I be the only one so happy? Everypony deserves to know the news...." And with that, EWS wrote down things like, "Blizzard's dead! Yes!", "Ice Blizzard is gone forvever Whoope!!", "Blizzard blew himself up! Hooray!", "Ice is dead for good! Finally!" on each note and gathered them up and opened his hospital window, "Yeah! Heed the news! Ponies!" he then made paper airplanes out of each note an began to rapidly throw them in all sorts of directions and were carried by the stiff wind into the bar, by the princess's box, even into the arena itself.

Kevin slowly made his insertion to the lake when he came across an airplane. He read what was on it and thought, "Suspicious....somepony should be told about this. But who...?"  He then walked away from the lake, and back towards the arena in search of somepony to ask the airplane about.

Night Tracer cocked a brow in confusion, then his tired eyes softened and a grin cam across his face; first since Luna had kissed him. He was aye ok with seeing some light tone and playfulness. He never got to enjoy being a young colt yet time after time again he saw adults, full grown mares and stallions acting like them but he hadn't been one since he was nine. He sighed.

"It's fine, it's the meaning that matters most." he spoke softly and tiredly as he maintained a weary smile. He yawned, then redirected his attention at the peach colored mare, "I'm not one to trust easy, but I need help and I need it desperately so know I'm putting a lot into this."

He evaluated the mare as she prompted herself up on the wine barrel, she was beautiful yet rustic. Suited her as far as he could tell, she looked strong willed and she spoke like it as well. It of just been the lack of sleep and strong smell of booze that drived his feelings, but he felt something around her, something strong, almost like love. It was the same feeling he had towards Luna while he was in university, knowing little about her but there was something there, it may not of been much but a sliver, a trace was there.

He pushed those feelings aside the best he could and shook his head back and forth vigorously to regain focus. "Ok, so I'll summarize," he took a breath, "I love Luna and I have to leave or else I could hirt her but at the same time I have to stay because if I leave then nopony is here to protect her but if I stay here and protect her then if I mess up Nightmare Moon will torture me, but If i leave she won't but at the same time some other Stallion might come along and hurt not Luna but himself inadvertantly because Nightmare Moon will torture him and I forgot to mention, Nightmare Moon is back and living. Don't tell anyone. I would tell Luna but that would scare her and I don't want to scare her but then I could tell Celestia; wait no, I couldn't because if I told Celestia then she would ask me why Nightmare Moon came back then I'd have to tell her it's because Luna and I are in love and if I tell her that then I'm a dead pony which I suppose is better than becoming Nightmare's torture victim but then again if I don't tell them then I could be considered traitorous for witholding information and if I'm considered traitorous I'll have to leave anyway or I'll be executed but if I leave or get executed then I can't protect Luna and if I can't protect Luna then some other Stallion will hurt her and use and if that happens then Nightmare will torture me and-- You get where this is going don't you?"

He looked at Applejack, he anxiously waited for a response, but feelings kept bugging him, but he ignored them and waited impatiently.

7,000 feet above the ground and about a mile away from the lake, Rainbow Dash was climbing, feeling the air pull through her wings. But it wasn't high enough, so she continued to climb. 10,000...30,000...

At 50,000 feet, the air started to grow thin, and Rainbow Dash started to get tired; she knew it was time to let go. She took the forward momentum and used it to slowly tip herself head over back, until she was completely reversed, facing downward toward the ground. Then, she let gravity take her; wings folded in, she plunged downward through the sky like a blue coated lightning bolt.

Rainbow Dash had been working on this trick for months, and now it was finally time to test it out. As she cut towards the ground like a knife, she felt the familiar build-up of air around her. But it was more than that. It was the speed, the excitement, the thrill, the magic. And she let it all out, energy filling her from the top of her head to the points on her hooves and spilling out into the air around her.

The reaction was spontaneous; a prismatic shockwave composed of raw magical force exploded from her body, beautifully splitting the air above the lake and sweeping away all the clouds in the area. It shook the place with a roar, awe-inspiring in its presence, but Rainbow Dash wasn't done yet. As the circle of her patented Sonic Rainboom expanded, she cut a sharp diagonal in mid-air, now heading straight outward on left over momentum. Wind peeled at her face as she shot forward, but she fought it, fighting the air itself for more speed, and winning. She ripped through the medium with a spin, not only making it past the outer edge of her shockwave, but moving above it as it continued to travel outward. Moving out of her roll into a balanced position with a twist, she once again tilted backwards before she shot straight downward for the second time.

She felt the adrenaline building up once again as magic filled her to her pores, and she released it again. A second shockwave just as big as the first ripped itself into the air, traveling just far enough behind the the original so that they were distinguishable from each other. The two Rainbooms expanded, blurring the sky into a rainbow of colors.

Rainbow Dash grinned as she looked up at the sea of colors expanding into the horizon; she'd finally pulled it off. Her victory was short-lived however, as she looked down to realize she was only 500 feet above ground; way lower than she expected. She pulled up, hard, just barely clearing ground, but being unable to avoid dive-tackling the pony walking on the ground in front of her.

-------

Rarity tirelessly worked the large machine in the back room, unaware that an entire day had passed since she'd first began. Food had been forgotten and sleep ignored, dresses went undone and hair went ungroomed; water was the only thing had caused her to get up for even a seconds notice. Even then, she had gone straight back to where she started, working mechanically by the light of the jewels glow.

She didn't even notice she was still crying.

--------

Luna moved through the world of shadows, tracing a familiar magical signature on the surface world. She emerged in the princesses booth next to Celestia, who turned around in surprise.

"Luna, you're usually not up this early, what-"

"Sister..." Luna interrupted, "Something has come up, and we desperately need to talk to you. If you would..."

Celestia looked into her sister's eyes, and nodded in response upon catching something unusual there. Being careful to turn the microphone off and close the doors this time, she finally turned back around to stand beside her sister. She draped a comforting wing over her back.

"Now tell me, Lulu, what's wrong?"

-------

"Whoa there, partner, slow down!" Applejack was struggling to keep up with all of the information that had just been handed to her in what seemed like a sentences worth of breath, and she had to take a short pause, closing her eyes in order to mull the information over without distractions. When she finally thought she had grasped enough of the information to speak on it, she did.

"Look, I know you didn't come here to here the answer that i'm about to tell, but what i'm about to tell you is the best advice I can give."

She reached out, placing a hoof on Night Tracer's chest as she stared directly into his eyes.

"That's your heart, and I reckon you oughta follow it. Let me tell ya, in any other instance, i'd recommend you use plain ol' common sense, but you seem to be stuck in one of those "damned if you do, damned if you don't" scenario's that me and the girls get into all the time. There's no perfect choice here, Night Tracer, and you're never going to get out of this easy. You just got to go with your gut."

She took her hoof of his chest, all the while still looking him in the eyes.

"So, do some thinking. What does your heart say?"

@,

Kevin was walking when suddenly, his swarm had made a small sheid to block the rainbow pony landed on him, and returned to his mane. He looked to her, and helped her onto her hooves, "Are you alright? That was a nasty fall, be careful." he said in his monotonous voice as he continued walking. He then thought for a moment, "Maybe this mare would know something..." he turned around and showed her the note reading "Blizzard's dead! Hooray!" after showing her the note he said, "Any idea what this means? If someone's dead, I believe someone should be told. Do you know if there's anyone important who could help with this?" he said as one of his swarm bugs crawled on his face and inspected the rainbow pony from afar.

Blizzard was going crazy within his mindscape, while crying "Oh man. Nopony's looking for me. I'm gonna die out here all alone with nopony to help me. But Rarity....as long as you're ok....I'm ok....the sun should be raised soon...2 days left before....." he said before gulping.

Wilhelm nodded, and a soft smile graced his face as he looked at Annette. "It is not me you should apologize to. You need to apologize to your victim, and if she sees fit to accept your apology, I will as well. And who knows; you could have a project or two. I do know a few ponies who need extra stallionpower to work on their ideas, and I'm sure you can lend a hoof. The more minds, the merrier. And now, as for me... After this, I will take my leave. There is much for me to consider, and I do believe that I have somepony to find."

Aknor looked around her shop, "You need security for your shop? I might know a guy." He thought for a moment then changed his mind, "Actually... If you'd like, I can make you security. All I need is a solid stone pillar but I can do it with metal, plastics and even wood. Runescribing isn't too difficult, but you'd have to draw it on otherwise they'd be bound to me. I could even draw ot on a bit of paper for you to copy down if you're intrested. I'd shape and sculpt the material, you'd bind it to your soul. Lifetime garentee, even of you do die, as long as your soul still has a physical tether, it'll protect you, your home and your prized posessions." He thought to himself, 'Maybe I should start a buisness on that kind've thing...'.

"But still, how does one indirectly cause an ursa minor to attack a quiet settlement?" He stopped before he prodded at painful memories." I still don't see where fighting in a tournament like this fits in. Unless... Nevermind." Aknor didn't want to jump to conclusions and didn't want to strike a nerve, he didn't want to ruin a potential friendship so early on.

as his creations did battle, he was running, looking for the water staff.

then he suddenly fell on his face.

"YOW!" he looked at his feet to find they were frozen to the ground. "alright..."

his arm bursting into flames, he started melting the ice.

he looked to his side, and found a staff. praying it was the water one, he grabbed it.

it was etched up and down with earth runes.

"dammit!...wait." taking a few of the wands he had collected so far, along with a few pages from his book, he grinned.

standing up, he laughed at sleight. "take this! gravity combination!" he said, as the giant ball of glass above sleight started falling at an alarming rate.

his feet finished thawing, and he decided to play defensibly. while sleight dealt with the glass, he cast a invisibility spell on himself, and started sneaking around. he had a idea in mind. hopefully...

@,

Night Tracer looked down to the ground avoiding Applejack's gaze, she had confirmed what he thought, the outcomes were inevitable but he didn't want to accept it.

He looked back at Applejack, his eyes met hers. Then broke the gaze as quickly as any a peculiar feelings a rose

He shook his head back and forth, to and fro, rapidly. He looked back up at her and smiled, "you're something Applejack, what you are is what I can't decide. Be sure to expect me back here." He lightly slapped her upper chest where she had laid her hoof on him; with the back of his hooves, "Thanks, I appreciate it. It means a lot to have someone to talk to. Bye." He said then bolted out of the bar.

He ran towards the Princesses' residence to find Celestia but then he heard her voice, it was faint but it sounded like it was coming from the Arena. "She must be announcing..:" he muttered. He put his hooves to the ground and made a 90° turn towards the Arena. He arrived at the entrance and darted through many halls and crowds on ponydestrians.

He slid around a corner and halted for a second; if that, then rushed full speed ahead towards the doors to the princesses' box, he was no more than a flash of light. He had picked up so much momentum, and reached such high speeds that he could give Rainbow Dash a run for her money. He turned to his side so he was parallel to the door and slid into the door leading to the Princesses' box and dipped his shoulder to brace for impact.

It broke wide open, he hit the doors so hard he nearly broke it from its hinges.

"Princess Celestia, we need to talk--," he then realized Luna was in the room, but it was day. Why would she be? "Oh, uh, um You're here." He stammered to Luna. His face flushed and he was left with one option, time to see how it'd play out.
