colt_following 169 May 14, 2015 Share May 14, 2015 (edited) definitely make a splash here if you have any comments.. I think the points been made by what written below! ---- Would anyone agree with me that Pinkie is a bit of an egotist? We can break it down into a few points:- She is constantly looking to have her wants served; that is, if it's made of sugar or sounds fun, she's interested, and otherwise she doesn't take interest.- She doesn't seem to help anyone in any way. Her purpose is to make others happy, but I get the impression that other being made happy is PURELY side-effect of her doing things to make HERSELF happy.- She is unable/unwilling to function well (or at the norm) in most social environments. Not that this means she's an egotist, but it may point to something.Let's be honest. She does a LOT of stuff that she shouldn't. I think it's not that she doesn't have the intelligence to make good decisions... Clearly she HAS that. I just think she mostly lives to serve herself.Opinions? Rebuttals? MountainDrew 1,877 May 14, 2015 Share May 14, 2015 (edited) I think Pinkie is just plain nuts and full of energy And that's the reason why she does what she does. I don't think she ever means to ignore things that aren't interesting to her; I think it's just Pinkie Pie being Pinkie Pie Edited May 14, 2015 by MountainDrew The Magic of Honesty

Pinkamena-Pills 6,840 May 14, 2015 Share May 14, 2015 (edited) Im waaay too tired to bother with answering this ridiculous topic in any true fashion. And to prove this is a ridiculous topic, i will only need quote one thing the op said that causes me to seriously doubt whether this should be taken seriously. She doesn't seem to help anyone in any way. Really? I guess bringing ponies smiles, hell to the point that in MMC we saw that without Pinkie being Pinkie, ponyville was a town of grumpy grumps, and her making them idk--not grumpy anymore isn't helping anyone..but let's not get into how precisely silly this assumption is the op presents. Unless, you want to say that the element of laughter does not perform her duty to..well..be the element of laughter, and is instead the element of 'self-serving ego'..but your not saying that, right? So, instead of writing a essay about how silly your op is, and debating something that imo need not be debated, because honestly the answer to your question is in your face within the show(spoiler alert; the answer is no), i will post Pinkie Pie laughing for over a minute, because i believe that's exactly what she'd do if someone suggested to her that shes a 'self-serving egotist'. I admit, i find it funny myself. Okay okay, I will try to attempt to address what you seem to be saying overall. I will keep this short: No, Pinkie isn't a 'self-serving egotist'. Look, as we've seen in episodes like Party of One & Pinkie Pride, she does have pride, and she requires friendship to stay, well, Pinkie. In a way, after seeing the Sonic Rainoom, she needed to make others smile and be happy, just like she was when she saw the sonic rainboom, we saw how during the very first party she ever made, after not seeing her family instantly burst into happy funzies, she began to become sad& disappoint, tho it worked out a few sconds later. This is because she clearly wanted to make others happy. Making others happy made her happy also. Hell, the smile song lyrics make this clear also, she loves to make ponies happy. But as we say in Party of One, if her friends aren't happy, or if she feels they aren't satisfied with her, she becomes miserable and bitter. Without going on forever, we can see that yes, she needs to make others happy for her to be happy in general. But is the 'self-serving'? As in 'she only does it because she only cares for herself and not others'? No. And one reason to see this 'no' outright is the end of Pinkie Pride, where she put her pride aside, considered how Rainbow felt and quit the goof-off. https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=pinkie+pie+quits+goof+off She put Rainbow's feelings before her pride, hell, it was her 'rainbow eyed key w/e moment'. I doubt a actual 'self-serving egotist' would've done such, especially in the heat of a competition..much less be the Element of Laughter. So, in a way, she makes others happy to fulfill her own happiness inside, but this isn't self-serving & devoid of genuine care type of thing, as she truly gives a damn about her friends, and honestly the way you present your op made it seem otherwise, as if she's some sort of narcissistic-like entity. She doesn't live to 'serve herself' -- yes, she has pride, and shes confident in herself, and sure she does things she shouldn't sometimes, but don't we all? In the end she lives ultimately to serve her friends because well, shes Pinkie, and she honestly just wants you to be happy. Her being happy is a result of her seeing others around her happy. RaritySparkleArtist 1,244 May 14, 2015 Share May 14, 2015 Dear, do not watch the lines, I do not think it is that, it is the element that brings happiness, but happiness can not be taken at all, and perhaps the same as it has no need to do so, I honestly think that, take a little out of context, it is very friendly with everyone in the series, and one can clearly see that there is this kind of expression on her face... 1 Pills <3 Kelly - The true nature, is one that warms the soul - Jane
Positively Pinkie 109 May 14, 2015 Share May 14, 2015 Pinkie Pie, I think, is a childlike egoist. If you leave out a can of treats, she's most likely to just eat them all. She can share fine, but if you don't quickly call her attention on that, she'd just forget about sharing it. But, I think it's wrong to say that she's an egotist through and through. She has a strong system of things where others always go first. She cracks jokes and throws parties to make others happy. Making other ponies smile is very important to her. And if she feels she really failed in doing that, she would go at great lengths to even get rid of herself so the other can smile again, if that's what it takes. That's kind of what you get in episodes like Too Many Pinkie Pies and Pinkie Pride. Heck, even in most of her "worst" moments, I think her fault is to ive too much, instead of too little. colt_following 169 May 14, 2015 Author Share May 14, 2015 Oolright, ya guys got me! I think I just personally feel like I don't KNOW her well enough to assess who she is, and more importantly in this case, what MAKES her act the way she does. I've addressed in anther thread how she comes off as being /just/ a comic relief for the majority of her on-screen time. But that's just a theory. A PONY THEO- okay I'll stop Come join the Equestria Big Band project! "A little glass of water, please..."
The Awesome One 1,315 May 14, 2015 Share May 14, 2015 She has literally dedicated her entire life to making other ponies smile and have a good time since she saw Rainbow Dash's Sonic Rainboom the day she get her cutie-mark. She is like me though, will not take anything seriously no matter how grave the situation is and would even suggest having a party while some massive monster is on a rampage on Ponyville. Is she a self-serving egotist? Hard to call a pony that wants to make other ponies happy that.
colt_following 169 May 14, 2015 Author Share May 14, 2015 I wanna rename this topic something like "Confirmed: Pinkie is NOT a self-serving egotist" I tend to have a narrow mind when I'm analyzing characters. This series has been the first in which I've really dug deep into why characters behave the way they do, and I certainly only want to see what other think about our favorite characters. Sorta, playing devils advocate, really. Come join the Equestria Big Band project! "A little glass of water, please..."

Positively Pinkie 109 May 14, 2015 Share May 14, 2015 It's a measure of both. You should realize that the characters (except maybe for the real villains like Tirek) do have character flaws and behave in ways that you think is inappropriate in friendship. that's what makes the show so rich, because the characters aren't perfect friends. But at the same time, you really can't push that flaw onto the entire character. Because they obviously as heroes of the show make up for it. and I find that each flaw comes in multiple facets. Sometimes it makes them make mistakes and even act mean or insensitive, but you can always find a way to understand why she does these things and understand that maybe she doesn't mean bad at all. Once you start to write off characters because they misbehaved sometimes, I think, you throw away a good lovable character and you're just gonna end up liking the show a lot less.
