Do you think Hasbro would take more risks with MLP Gen 5?

Specifically, with a major (good) player bearing the title of Queen, for once, rather than princess. Disney (I think) was the one who drove it into little girl's minds and marketed that brainwashing that only good guys can be Princesses and Princes, rather than Kings and Queens (not to mention the capitalization on “youthful titles without responsibility”, which was what Princesses and princes were depicted as. But now, with the arrival of “Queen Elsa” on the scene on Disney's turf, and already a surprising number of good kings and queens from past (and current) MLP generations on Hasbro's turf

Queen Rosedust of the Flutter ponies- G1
"By Right, I should be queen" song the princess ponies sing in G1
Good king and queen talked about- and seen in "Princess Problems"- G2
Good queen mentioned in the spellbook Twilight has, in "Hearts and Hooves Day"- G4
Good queen mentioned from the Crystal Empire- "The crystal Empire part 2" (?) G4
Good queen mentioned in Journal of the Two sisters- g4
Good king "King Leo" depicted as Celestia's cousin- "Under the Sparkling Sea"- G4
Good king, ruler of the deer in the Everfree forest, "King Aspen"- G4

(also, the Bronies, who've been breaking and redefining gender stereotypes), do you see Hasbro taking more of a risk with MLP Generation 5, and having a main character as King/ Queen, rather than princess or prince, shaking things up, and refusing to pander to “tradition” and little girls liking princesses stereotypes, and showing that Queens/ Kings can be good characters that can also be admired?

Gen Five could feature the good and wise Queen Twilight Sparkle, and her consort, Flash Sentry.

That noise you hear is hundreds of headcanons firing at me for daring to mention a certain stallion.

The only questions they care about are: Can we make toys of this? and If we make toys of this will they sell?  They'll probably stick to princesses unless they can be convinced that it won't have too negative an effect on toy sales to make a character a queen instead.

Ick to Flash Stenchy, period.  and ick to Twilight Sparkle being in G5. =_= They've done all they could do with her in G4, if you ask me. Give somepony new the spotlight in next gen.

Though, maybe her being Queen and Ruler of whatever pony land there is in G5 might work if there were new main cast, and Queen Twilight was in about as much as the new gen as G4's princess Celestia- that being- not much, aside from giving missions. (though we'd better see Alicorn Sunset Shimmer- sans any royal title whatsoever, just for a change of pace- ruling alongside Queen Twilight, if they're going to give Twilight ruler over whatever land she's ruling)

(since we all know Sunny's meant to rule with Twi, anyway, like Luna and Celestia rule together. It just makes sense)

I don't see why they wouldn't be able to make toys off of characters being Queens and Kings. the toys would still have fancy plastic crowns and whatnot. Plus, higher positions mean more power, in most cases. (what's not to sell/ like?) It certainly wouldn't kill them (Hasbro) to try, considering - again- their own willingness to throw good Kings/ Queens into the mix. They even had Queen Rosedust as a toy back in G1, and she sold, didn't she?

I wasn't being totally serious about He Who Must Not Be Named.

I do agree with you about Queen Twilight. She would almost be a background pony, but be a good link between G4 and G5. As for Sunset Shimmer, I love her. If she isn't ruling at Twilight's side, she could then be the mane character herself!

I have this image in my mind of Twilight and Sunset breaking out into giggles once this formal portrait was taken...

SOOO SERIOUS!

I personally would like for a few male main characters. After all, male main characters can be found in many cartoons aimed towards girls so I see no harm done but have most of them as females.

And Queen or Princess older Twilight Sparkle could make for a good link between Gen 4 and 5. And maybe Sunset Shimmer ruling besides her like what cuteycindeyhoney had said.

And perhaps some new elements of Harmony? Like element of Confidence or Inspiriation or whatever.

I'd love to see any risks taken by Hasbro and the writers as long as they're not too risky of course. :o

I feel a sudden disturbance in the force, as if millions of brony's were raging, all at once, and then suddenly got banhammered into the eternal silence of oblivion.

Don't forget about Duchess Sunset Shimmer, after all, we could hardly put forth Queen Twilicorn without her faithful comrade from the human realm.

no risk, no reward, right?

I don't think I'd mind there being a few more male leads thrown in. So long as they don't become love interests later. It's always been girls leading the pony pack and being the center- not that there's anything wrong with that. In fact, I support it and encourage more females in media to be independent, strong, go-getters and role models, rather than damsels in distress. On the flip side, I'd like to see some non nerdy/ geeky male leads being given that role for a change XD (though not all the time, mind you. I'd also like to see them be fierce and strong and be able to get things done when chips are down, sometimes, too)

As I said before, Queen TS would be a good transition into the next generation, and with Alicorn (non-princess/ Queen) Sunny alongside her. Having her not be attached to a royal title (due to humility reasons) is something I also want o see done, and hopefully allow her more freedoms without the attached title, like being away from royal responsibilities, for the most part, and being able to be incorporated more into actual episodes, dealing one on one with whatever new main cast the next gen brings, much like Luna does. Or simply giving her a few  standalone episodes of just her and her adventures or problems.

You've token the words right out of my mouth. Either that or you're a mind reader.

I honestly would like to see a change and see female characters in a show targeted for little girls befriend male characters without any hints of romance involved although people might ship them anyways. It would be rather refreshing in my opinion. Maybe Hasbro could add boys in the Cutie Mark Crusaders group with the girl Crusaders in Gen 5. That'd be interesting to see for sure. :please:

I don't mind geeky characters, I adore them actually. But I agree they're being a bit cliche' now and it would be nice to see a strong male lead but have the females once in awhile save their butts from danger or trouble. In almost ANY cartoon of any target audience the girl always have to save the weak guy's butt and the guy can't defend himself at all. It would be better if the females and males both took turns saving each other.

As for Sunset Shimmer, I'd like to see what Hasbro would do with her in Gen 5. We could see her visit from the human world occasionally for episodes and tend maybe see some moments of her in Equestira Girls if EG is in Gen 5. (If it has male characters, it could be Equestira Friends maybe.) And see her join with the new Mane 6 or whatever number Mane characters if there's more and their misadventures.

Without her needing that attached title.

Sometimes in life, to get those awards you want you need to take at least some risks.

I would prefer it if the main characters stayed female. As for Queen to Princess, I dunno, but Princess seems more right to me for some reason.

I also don't want a Gen 5 anyway. Gen 4 forever!

All of them? But we've had all-female pony main characters from the very beginning of the MLP franchise (G1). I'd think a change of scenery with one or two male characters thrown in, and still having 4 female leads could do the series justice. I respect that you have your opinion, but that's just my thoughts.

You've been exposed to Princess syndrome so long you've just become accustomed to it, I think, which is why. As I've said before, Hasbro has had Good Queens thrown into the mix every so often. As times change, I think it'd do good to break down the stereotypical way of things that have been established, since way back in the early days of animation, and try something outside the box. I mean, that's what Bronies did and became, and look how successful that turned out. Hasbro could learn something from us and do it themselves, hopefully for the better. Personally, I think it'd be fun to start seeing more princesses and princes gone bad, and Queen characters stepping in to save the day. Shift the political balance of power once in a while. The lesser class royal characters aren't any more infallible, themselves.

I don't see the point of G5 reusing the same characters, might as well stay at G4. Though, I expect them to take some risk, I doubt the queen as a good ruler will be one of them

Dude, that would still be Gen 4, but in a couple of seasons. Generations are a change in style, not story.

I never said Queen Twilight would be the exact same character as Princess Twilight Sparkle in MLP:FIM. If Queen Twilight is several hundred years older, she would be much different from the character we know today. Her five friends would be nothing bot fond memories, and her consort could be the descendant of the first Flash Sentry.

(Like I said in an earlier post. I wasn't being serious when I threw him)

But you never implied the opposite.

I guess it makes more sense that way but it wouldn't be a change in style more than it would be a change in storyline.

Meh, I'll go along with what you said.
