Anypony think the Grand Galloping Gala was wasted?

The Grand Galloping Gala exists to celebrate the completion of Canterlot after Equestria was founded. Why do they never touch upon that bit of history? Like how it was founded and by whom, the problems that came with it and so forth. Or have an episode involving that history.

 

There were two GGGs but none of them touched upon that.

this is news to me. From what I understand, according to the Journal of the Two Sisters, Canterlot was around long before Equestria was even founded, because Celestia and Luna were living there as fillies, with other Alicorns around. I can't recall if the show ever even mentioned the purpose of the Grand Galloping Gala. (if they didn't, then that's probably why they don't delve into its history of how it came about)? I'm sure it's just a fancy formal event for the Canterlot elite, for no real reason other than to spend time with the princess, so they can see her trying to interact with her subjects (like the Chuckle Lot event the princesses throw every so often, in the IDW's comics)

Well I got it from the first description of the wiki when I was looking up what the Grand Galloping Gala was for.

If I remember rightly (which I might not), the journal said "the hills of Canterlot". I personally interpreted that to mean that the hills were called Canterlot, and the city came later... but maybe that's a silly way to interpret it.

What source do you have on this? I don't remember them ever stating that in the show. If they did, they would've said so by now.
