Why was Big Macintosh so out of breath in Filli Vanilli?

In Filli Vanilli, just before finding out about Big Mac's voice, Rarity notes that he's late, at which point, he shows up, huffing and puffing and generally looking exhausted and out of breath. But why? it just seems odd for a stallion who possesses as much power and stamina as he does.

Mac's built for power and stamina, not speed. He's not a sprinter, but he was trying to be to get to practice on time. Keep him at a trot and he can make it from one end of Equestria to the other without breaking a sweat. Make him gallop, he'll get winded quick.

Big Mac lost his voice trying to out gobble Pinky Pie in a turky call contest

It was a way of showing his injury

Losing your voice doesn't affect your breathing, though.

And this is why he's merely out of breath after reaching the destination, instead of collapsing midway.

I can confirm that being strong for lifting or carrying does not equate to running stamina.
