Middle-Aged Ponies: Does she look too young?

OK, we know we've seen elderly ponies before. We all know about granny Smith and other elderly ponies of ponyville. They appear to be in the mid 70s but what would a pony in her late 50s look like? That's what I'd like to know.

This is for an OC who is the mother of an adult son in his early 30s. To say his mother would be in her late 50s would be perfectly reasonable.

So this is the mother pony. Her (not-so-definitive) name is Cradle Embrace, a pediatrician by profession. (She's still a WIP OC)

So then if I told you that this is a mare who is somewhere between 56 - 60 years old, would you believe me?

Even in the show, defining ponies between "young adult" and "older than dirt" seems to be difficult. For example, Twilight doesn't actually look any younger than her mother.

About the only middle-aged mare I can think of in the show is Mayor Mare, though as we've seen, that;'s mostly affectations (like a dyed mane).

It would have to come down to their mannerisms that set them apart as being older more than anything.

That said, the OC looks pretty good.

I would believe you if you told me that was so... but I would never suspect that on my own. It's difficult to gauge ages visually unless there are clear indicators such as wrinkles. Cradle Embrace seems to have a youthful vibe.

One thing that comes to mind so far is a wrinkle near her eye like Soarin in the show.

Just one problem... Being a mare, her eyes and mouth are much closer to one another so I can imagine the placement of this line is going to be pretty awkward.

Or just leave her as is because...

As previous posters have noted, I think if there's any way you could put lines on the face, without it looking odd, that would help her look a little older. With the picture you've got there, I'm mainly noting the age with the hair. That's sort of the definitive marker on her age with that pic.

The hairstyle does give that "aging hippie" look, which I think actually fits well with the show and a character like this.
