Help with naming a character

Recommended Posts

I'm about to create a fursona for a new identity. I've worked out parts of his personality and design (though I haven't drawn him yet), however, I've hit one snag - the name.

My character is an active, social, and sporty young deer. I've settled on the first name John, referencing "John Doe" and "John Deere", however I'm looking for a more fitting last name for the character. I'm aiming for something meaningful, symbolic, or representative of his species identity.

John Deere sounds... quite frankly... very cliche  :please:

I'd come up with something Greek. For some reason I associate deer fursonas with Greek for some reason. Ander? Andal? Ander Agile. Ander Nimble. Andal Quick.

Something like that  :derp:

The common use of John in deer-related names is why I'm sticking with John as the first name. It's mainly the last name I'm looking for. Deer occasionally show up in Greek mythology, as the Golden Hind and association with Artemis, so that does sound like a good idea. Also considering his personality, names referring to physical traits (like Swift) work as well. I appreciate your input and I'll definitely consider it.

I'd go with a tree or wild plant name, not one that's cultivated like a  flower. Bramble is the first that comes to mind. Briar Patch, If he was older I'd suggest Father Pine. Mist Dancer, Oak Heart... or maybe you'd like something more poetic like Vines Encrusted or Redwood in Autumn

just throwing some ideas out there. =3

The above post clearly was meant to offend, and if you feel insulted by it, please use the 'close browser' button and discuss it with someone who knows not to take the internet too seriously.

Considering that, would John Swiftheart work, or does that sound too Care Bear-ish? :P

Could be John Hart

Hart being an archaic term for a stag (adult male deer).

I was aware of the term "Hart". I liked the idea but I considered the name "Hart" to be too short and nondescript. I thank you and appreciate your suggestion, though.

Swiftheart sounds good as well, and without the John it does sound like an accurate Care Bears name (I only know this from the Nostalgia Critic reviews :P :P ). I'd like some more ideas, though.

The top name I'm considering right now is "Yearling". It embraces his youth. I also want to stay away from plant and forest-specific names because he's actually more urban, contrary to most popular depictions of deer being purely of the forest.

Ever tried resorting to another language? John Venado :P? Or John Ramure (French for "antlers")? Otherwise, Yearling sounds like a good name based on your explanation .
