Depends on your focus?

First person can give a more intimate take on that characters world or view, but third can allow for more solid exploration of multiple characters.

Though, all of it still depends on the writer, as none of that is a given just by choosing first or third.

 

Also, most stories I've seen are written in third, and while I've found many I enjoy in first, it can be a little more painful if the story isn't written well, or centered around someone who is interesting to follow.

You also want to consider tense when determining POV. 1st person present, for example, is a completely different reading experience that 1st person past. You can also use POV in subtle ways. In Catcher in the Rye, the narrator is the main character, but his perspective on life has changed since the events of the story.
