So I was playing Just Cause 2, and saved up enough to buy me a jet:

Costs 30k to get this thing. So i have it dropped on a clear runway, but half way through the take off it glitches and flips up side down with me inside it and starts rocketing across the run way like a race car with me screaming, "Stooopp! stoop! oh no!!"

It finally stops after crashing into the trees and i get out and it explodes(ejected before the explosion), and turned to see its toast, and say this, "God damn it!! i just bought this thing!" apparently jets hate me now. So i go to an enemy base and steel a chopper and have fun wrecking their stuff. #rekt. feeling better i decided to buy one again, but by chance and enemy chopper destroys it and me along with it.

Yeah,i have a ton of bad jet experience, but its not in just cause 2,Its in a game called Grand Theft Auto:San Andreas

  • One Time,I flied passed a restricted area with a fighter jet,it blowed up the stabilizer and then i crashed
  • my jet crashed through an invisible object, turns out to be a tall tree. Thanks alot FOV
  • An Enemy Fighter Jet Started chasing me when i had 4 wanted level, its rocket hitted my jet.then i crashed
  • i forgot to enable my landing gear when i land,So i ducked out of the plane then it slided and hit an fence.(Waste of jet ;-; )

Thats All D:

Simply put, flight and spaceflight are not intuitive to human experience, so a lower percentage of people are interested in playing with them to the degree that it would justify more games. That's my ten cents.

Games where you run around wearing fancy armor and carrying murder appliances in your own hands are scenarios more easily imagined. Being a pilot is easy to imagine in some ways as well, but there are unrelenting facts and concepts about flight which necessarily come with flying regardless of how easy or hard it is to imagine you're a pilot.

Something as frustrating as a gun jam isn't as complicated as a stall.

So in general I don't think there are ever going to be enough flight games to oust the popularity of more gunny-swordy games. That said, what groups who enjoy making games with flight mechanics in them are more and more accurately able to discern their audiences interests. Any of my video game bad experiences with jets would probably come from particularly difficult fights in Ace Combat Zero. I don't play many (or any) video games where being able to use an aircraft is just a background bit, like in Grand Theft Auto. A game with flight for me is a game where flight is front-and-center, not an attachment.
