Does anyone kinda miss the letters?

When Spike sent that letter to Luna in Magic Sheep, I suddenly realized that I miss seeing Twi dictate and send letters, simply because it's fun to hear her write letters, and it's fun to see Spike use his teleportation breath, or whatever it's called.  And plus, letter writing is just kind of a cool and classy thing.  But I don't actually miss the explicitly stated morals in the form of friendship reports.  It was a great part of the show back then, but I like the way it's evolved, too.  I prefer the morals being delivered without the explicit statement.  But I like seeing Twi write a letter to one of the other princesses now and then, just because it seems like a nice touch as part of her royal duties and such.

Not really. They were a holdover from Season 1, where the show fell under educational & Informative guidelines and had to have a clearly stated lesson at the end. As the show kinda-sorta matures and it finds a wider audience, the writers probably want to step away from tacked on definitions of the plot anyway. The morals are usually clear enough in an episode that it's not necessary.

It certainly is amazing how the show changes over time. Going from the first few episodes of season 1 to the new episodes of season 5 makes for an interesting contrast in my opinion. This is not a bad thing and, in fact, it is natural in every long story or series I've seen. I agree that MLP has gone from the blatant informational type to the more integrated moral type of show. I would not, however, say that one is better than the other. They are merely two kinds of storytelling with different goals or methods of reaching a goal.

Wouldn't it be cool if somepony sent Luna some letters?  ^_^
