Why don't ponies make more of an effort to have info on other species?

I think the reason why there do not make a bit more of an effort is due to how Equestria is isolated and the ponies are afraid of the other species.

There has to be some lore on the trade business between ponies and other species. Perhaps if that's gleaned upon there is ways they can learn about each other more.

 

Also it seems to be more of a matter that other species rather be left alone than the ponies not being more outgoing. The griffons are grumps that only care about bits and the dragons tend to sit in their caves with no care about others.

As others have said, EQ is like America.  We basically take the attitude "If it was important, it would be happening here."  Without looking it up on the internet, I seriously doubt the average American could name 5 current world leaders or the capital of any Latin American country except (maybe) Mexico.

 

I am somewhat surprised that their diplomatic corps & some university professors don't know more, though.
