With reports of the working conditions of Konami being leaked, its not hard to paint a picture of what exactly happened between Kojima and the company he used to work for. Konami over the years has become extremely infamous, cancelling franchises, burning ties with creators, re-assigning game developers and their teams to janitorial positions and other menial labor as punishment, constant monitoring of every move their employees make, and declaring interest in only those things that are deemed cheap and profitable like mobile games (though they are backpeddling on that one)

With such an oppressive group of higher ups making all these calls that anger the masses, is it any wonder where the inspiration of Metal Gear Solid and its conspiracy theory oriented plots came from? The father of the I.P, it has since been appropriated by Konami and Kojima's name has been stripped from its cover, and they claim to want to continue the series even after the ties with its creator are cut.

Kojima saw this move coming though and planted something in the MGS5 demo that was released prior to most of these troubling revelations about Konami

Kojima Productions was disbanded and reassigned by Konami some time later, and they infamously scrubbed the Hideo Kojima name off its cover as afore mentioned.

In my opinion, the entire Metal gear solid series is an Alegory of his struggles with this opressive company; From when he first introduced his child project Metal Gear to the company, blindly following their rules as he diligently worked to make his dreams come true for them, you can certainly draw a parallel between him and Naked Snake aka Big Boss from Snake eater. Even though his gut, Big Boss, was telling him that what he was doing was wrong and that following a big faceless business like that would be his undoing he followed the path they laid for him anyway. They played him like a fiddle, and his project ended up being permanently fused with the company. The Boss was martyred for a nation that used her death for its own ends.

Kojima and Big Boss both know the numbing horror that they were the person whom pulled the trigger on the thing they cared about the most in the name of some group that didn't care about them to begin with. Its that loss, that regret, that fueled the games and its narrative to the bitter end, when all control was finally stripped from them.

I may of only got interested in MGS recently, but Hideo Kojima has earned another lifelong fan in my book, someone that artisic and dedicated deserves respect.
