628318530717958647692 1 April 18, 2012 Share April 18, 2012 I only recently became aware of My Little Pony and its astonishing cult following. I've never seen the show (though I have *seen* it, i.e. seen screencaps, etc.), and to be perfectly honest, the evidence does seem to suggest that its non-child fans are both childish and effeminate. But being the fair person I am, I decided to join here to find out before I make any judgements. So, tell me: Why do you watch the show? Also, are there any non-females on this forum? Finesthour 7,287 April 18, 2012 Share April 18, 2012 I watch the show because- why else does anyone watch any show- it is entertaining. The writing is great for the shows that come out these days, the voice acting is superb, the animation is smooth, and many, many more examples why I love the show. By the way, I am a 15 year old male. I may be feminine, but tell me sir, what is wrong with that? I legitimatly care for other people, so that makes me a bad person? Welcome to the forums anyway. FLARE 952 April 18, 2012 Share April 18, 2012 Hi, we've had a thread like this, http://mlpforums.com/topic/54-why-do-you-like-my-little-pony/ maybe you'll find your answer in there? There are more males than females on this forum.
Derpy.H 177 April 18, 2012 Share April 18, 2012 (edited) Welcome. And just so you know. The majority of us are male here. Including me. I watch the show because I like it. I like the characterisations and intricate complexities of all the characters in the show. After the first couple of episodes it became more of a higher-age show if you look carefully into it. It fits the main target audience (about 5 year olds..) but in it they have such things that we see in to it because the characters became more complex after Hasbro realised the audience it was getting (Bronies of course). Oh and its entertaining to me. EDIT: There are more stuff I COULD tell you but... I am kinda busy. 628318530717958647692 1 April 18, 2012 Author Share April 18, 2012 Interesting. So do you have no reservations about being publicly known as a "brony?" Does anyone care, or is it a generally accepted thing in your circles? Perhaps people like me (16-year-old male) are turned off by the fact that MLP's fans are so enthusiastic about it. It's a bit weird sometimes, to be perfectly honest.

Does anyone care, or is it a generally accepted thing in your circles? Tis' a silly question. Generally, you would like to be known by what you love the most. If you love to play football, you want people to know. It isn't different with ponies. Us bronies like to show who we really are, and what we love. I am publicly known as a brony, and besides the rare account of the general asshole trying to pick on me(it never works as I laugh them off), I am considered to have huge balls. I don't really see why it matters if I am a brony or not, we are all human. Just because an individual likes ponies, we should shun them? I'll never understand that mindset.

Well, the brony community is my main social circle, so yes, It's accepted. As for my friends irl, If they were too close minded to tolerate bronies, I wouldn't even want to be their friend. And I very much appreciate you coming and asking us this, instead of just labeling bronies as bad without farther knowledge about it. 628318530717958647692 1 April 18, 2012 Author Share April 18, 2012 Don't get any ideas that I'm a MLP fan. I'm just investigating, remember? I have a very close friend whose little sister watches MLP. She's about eight, and he's a bit confused as to why she hasn't "outgrown" it yet. About a year ago, I had the singular fortune to carpool with him. As I sat in the passenger seat, I listened to an entire episode that was playing for her in the back. I was not impressed, and it never even crossed my mind that anybody over the age of ten (or any male) could be a fan. I guess I was wrong. I confess I'm a bit impressed by the civility of everyone here.
Arylett Charnoa 4,919 April 18, 2012 Share April 18, 2012 To further clarify: 90% of the forum's members are male. I am one of the rare females of the 10%. (Although I am not technically fully part of its primary demographic; I am 20 years old.) I must say that I agree with you in that I find the extreme enthusiasm of some of the brony community to be extremely off-putting. But worry not; not all fans are like that. There are those like me who simply watch the show on a casual basis for simple entertainment. In general, MY reasons for watching it: it is a lofty show that is fun for a bit of entertainment, and also with a good art style that I find fun to imitate and improve my art with. It's best just to regard it as any other show; without bias or expecting it to be any good or crappy. If you are confused as to why so many people watch it, why not start on the first few episodes and see for yourself? That's what I went ahead and did. I went in with an extremely rash annoyance at the intensity of fans when I first began to watch, and also extreme confusion since I generally dislike pink and girly froo-froo things. Then I ended up liking it. (Though I retained my annoyance at intense people) You may or may not. If you don't, that's okay. You don't have to like it. Also, merely listening to a show isn't really going to give you a good view of it. Especially if you're expecting it to be crappy and have negative views on it. It's best to watch it if you truly wish to be well-informed. As for if I'm personally embarassed about telling people about the show? No. I guess it's different because I'm a woman and people don't really care. But really, it's just a show like any other. Watching it and being a fan of it isn't some end-all be-all phenomenon, and it shouldn't matter to others. So it goes in a society like this though. Anyways, welcome to the forums. 3 Aether Velvet is the name of the OC in my avatar. Drawn by me. Deviantart

Well, seems like I was a little to late there to state my point on all this, but I'm happy to hear that you might return again. I wish you the best of your day and onwards, I hope you enjoy the episodes you so choose to watch.
Dashock Brony 6 April 19, 2012 Share April 19, 2012 Well, you kinda have to make your own judgement when you first watch the show (as in a couple full episodes.) I for one have always been a fan of Cartoons and Animation, and I remember watching the old movies when I was younger. They weren't bad, but they didn't really hook me. But I did gain a sense of not being totally new to the genre. It has excellent voice acting, round lovable characters, great animation (with it being animated with Flash and all.), and a great way to learn some good old fashioned morals and lessons which seem to be almost non existent in other cartoons. Lauren Faust has always done a great job with cartoons going all the way back to The Power Puff Girls, which was one of the best Action cartoons when I was a kid. You can argue that we're not it's intended main demographic, with it being made for little girls. But I see it as a way of rebelling against social norms. Women can play football, have seats in politics, and basically everything else in society women can do. But heaven forbid the day a guy enjoys a quote on quote "girly" Cartoon. It's a really nice show, check it out when you can. Peace.
