Okay, so is anyone else watching this?

I've always liked the Total Drama series, albeit some seasons a lot more than others (the first and the fourth are really the only two that hold up particularly well on re-watch, IMO.) However, this spin off series is much better/fresher than most of the later seasons.

Quite separate from the whole "bunch-of-teens-on-an-island" Survivoresque storyline that has been done to death, the Ridonculous Race plays out like The Amazing Race and features contestants of varying ages competing in pairs. Mostly, the cast is all new characters, but with a few returning favorites from earlier seasons of Total Drama. The interactions between said teammates are great fun, especially a father-son and mother-daughter team. Some of the humor is a bit over-the-top, but there are also subtler LOL moments, such as every time the Ice Dancers pose like they are in a skating competition.

So far, my favorite teams are the Surfer Dudes (just nice, positive guys!) and the Goths (they don't say much, but every time they do, it's hilarious!)

I'm really enjoying the Ridonculous Race. It's the best season has had for a long while. I think what I like most of the season is the humor, as well as journeys the characters go through. I really like how whenever the teams get eliminated, they go out as much better people (for the most part). I'm really enjoying this season, as it has the humor and characterization.

Yeah, I kind of still watch this show. Not sure as a guilty pleasure or not, but something keeps me elevated to this series.

Maybe it's because I can get passed all the reality show tropes due to me liking the characters, maybe it's because they tend to spoof reality show tropes but needless to say I am following this spin off.

I will say, it does do stuff better than the main series. Character arcs tend to be resolved, making their eliminations seem more satisfying, and the host in this one isn't as much of a sociopath.

The teams I like are the Father/son, police cadets and the surfer dudes.

The team I don't like however are the best friends. They're just played out in such a cliched way. Oh, she likes him but he doesn't notice, blah blah blah insert teen sitcom trope here.

I think for me the novelty of the series wore off after the first season. I mean I SERIOUSLY enjoyed Total Drama Island; it was the last series that really kept me glued till next week's episode; and that is saying a LOT. I believe it was the last show before MLP to do that for me.

Then once the new season came, it just fell off the tracks for me. I don't know, but I lost interest and no longer cared. I may have to check out the new series though.

The Best Friends were kind of annoying early on, but they get MUCH funnier later!

Anyway, I find that this season has more likable/redeemable people than previous seasons (especially Pawkitew Island, which was the last season to air and had some pretty horrible characters.) The Ice Dancers are good villains, but seem more like they are just over-ambitious than straight up mean-spirited/evil. On the other hand, the Father/Son, Surfer Dudes, Best Friends, Sisters, Noah/Owen, Bloggers and Adversity Twins all seem like pretty good people. Plus, this season is way better at spreading out screen time so that we get to know everybody at least a little before they leave.

Yeah I noticed that. And it has the Total Drama fashion of eliminating the most bland/annoying characters early on (seriously, the LARPer team bothered me due to having LARPer friends. They typically know what reality is).
