Silver Stream. 708 October 7, 2015 Share October 7, 2015 I have to admit, I really am.enjoying the 5th season more than the others mainly because I'm actually starting to see some GROWTH in the main cast. I feel like things we're repetitive before when it came to a few of their struggles. The only character who has an excuse would be Fluttershy in my opinion because a person like her is expected to struggle everyday with her problems but even with her, I'm seeing that she is getting better. But seeing three episodes about Spike learning to accept he's not as useless as he feels was a bit annoying and I felt that the writing lacked originality when it came to making him learn the same lesson "with different story lines" Same with the Mane 5 still having issues with taking Pinkie Pie seriously when she's trying not tell or show them something important. I know it's really.difficult to take a pony like PINKIE seriously with anything but I think there has been plenty of predicaments where Pinkie's crazy antics do lead to saving the day where they should be used to it. I just notice this happens through 3 seasons and half of the 4th. I appreciate its not so repetitive so far.into the 5th series. Maybe I'm over analyzing it? Could be a misunderstanding on my part and it WASN'T repetitive as I saw it. What are your thoughts? Silver Stream. 708 October 7, 2015 Author Share October 7, 2015 Spike, specifically, I cannot say since he hasn't had a lot of screen time so far into the series. That's why I didn't say he was better in Season 5, only that Season 5 in general seems to be getting better with the mane six and their development. He's still in question for me as far as growth goes SILVER STREAM'S POETRY DUMP I am Silver Stream || My Request Shop
Partialgeek514 5,015 October 8, 2015 Share October 8, 2015 Spike does seem to have had a least growth, though I wouldn't say he hasn't had any growth. As for the other mane 6, I didn't see a lot of growth until Season 4. I think that making Twilight a princess may have inspired the writers to take show to a new level in a way. Season 5 really seems to show this. I like how many callbacks to previous episodes there's been in Season 5. I think that helps show the growth of the mane 6. Could be a misunderstanding on my part and it WASN'T repetitive as I saw it. What are your thoughts? Going to disagree. I haven't seen much growth this season compared to previous seasons. As a specific example, lets look at Rainbow dash. Dash has been pretty stagnant this season; outside of Tanks for the memories, she hasn't learned or grown as a character, and TFTM lesson was pretty out there as far as a lesson she'll use anywhere else in life. Wonderbolts academy, I felt she grew incredibly. Similarly, I felt she advanced in Testing testing 123 as she started to learn not to treat herself as an idiot and got some self esteem towards her mental abilities. But I just don't think dash has advanced any this season. Pinkie likewise I don't think has actually GROWN: I think she's exactly how she's always been, 100% focused in life with making others happy. She's been showing that as far back as A friend in deed where we see that pinkie just wants to make others happy. Its just that the writers have been pretty poor in season 4 in showing that, and got their stuff in order this season to show it, but I don't think pinkie's learned anything really. Its not that I think they've learned NOTHING; It was great for example that we've FINALLY got an episode with twilight learning a lesson in amending fences, and AJ was great in Made in manehattan. Its just I don't think there's been any exceptional growth is all.
Chara 1,565 October 8, 2015 Share October 8, 2015 I like that they are making much more screen time for the others. Rarity was a VERY shallow character and now that Twilight is not in the picture all that much is making me somewhat happy. signature made by myself. Redacted321 105 October 8, 2015 Share October 8, 2015 i think season 5 their trying to show more of the world and background characters, so as we move the mane 6 over they have to keep us invested by seeing some pay off from the past 4 seasons, not saying it's bad in fact it's great but i'm thinking about this while in a dark room stroking a cat, probably what the CEO of Hasbro is doing right now. "Walking with a friend in the dark is better than walking alone in the light."

While I agree that perhaps Pinkie Pie is 100% the same as all the other seasons, I feel your explanation for Rainbowdash is a bit contradictory. Compared to the last few seasons, I think Rainbowdash is growing. Previously, all her lessons were basically about how to be a good sport and not be a sore loser....I recall that one time her lesson was to actually be loyal to her friends which was ironic since her element is loyalty. While I personally think she hasn't gotten enough screen time to make a definite conclusion if she's learning more than what she did in the previous seasons, that one episode TFTM was more.insightful and honestly more deeply impacting towards Rainbow than all her other episodes combined. Which is a shame because it shouldnt be like that, but imo it is true. As for Rarity, I never saw her as a shallow character at all. I am aware that half the brony community thinks so. I think it depends on the individual and how relatable they are with that character. It's about perspective. I don't even find myself relatable with Rarity, but even I can she she is more to than meets the eye. I blame the inconsistency in how they developed on her character. She shows her generosity a few in Season 1, then they expose her flaws (which is vanity imo) . I think that was nice and all, but "Made in Manehatten" threw me off. I didn't like how thickly they laid her element on this as if the only purpose was to satisfy the brony community that saw Rarity as a shallow character. It was too random and poorly written. Partialgeek514 5,015 October 9, 2015 Share October 9, 2015 When has Spike had any growth? I don't see Spike as ever having had much growth. I think most of his slight changes are more to do with the overall show developing through the seasons than his own episodes. Some of the only growth I think he's had from an episode is when he came to accept Owlowiscious. I still think that Spike has only had minor and insignificant growth though. It's true that relative to the other characters, Spike has had pretty much no growth. I just wouldn't say that Spike has had zero development. That's just my opinion though.
