In terms of recurring characters, I can say that Snips and Snails are the anti-fashionista.

I thought Bulk Biceps was kinda ugly. His proportions looked wrong, and that dude needs to learn how to brush his teeth.

 

Additionally, Flutterhulk from Power Ponies was pretty hideous. HOW IN THE WORLD DO YOU MAKE FLUTTERSHY  UGLY?

 

Honestly, I don't think the animators design muscle ponies really well. Great for comic exaggeration, but kinda gross to look at all-in-all.

Well, to me he was kinda gross, but not too much. And Flutterhulk happened only once, in fictional comic world, and was only for a minute or so.

Then I should expect ponies to have an actual freak show there, huh? Like, you know, they showed all kinds of people with defects as a form of entertainment. So why not in MLP, then?

And yet, they can do the same things, with cute characters as a pleasant bonus.

I'm sorry but I'd spend more time with the ugliest pony in Equus rather than an impossibly small time with a changeling. You want ugly, changelings would scare the ugly offa hyena.

I was a bit surprised when some people on this thread said that Snips and Snails look ugly. They don't look that great in the EQG movies, but I'd say they're cute in FiM.

 

It's all up to each person's opinion of course, but I find it a bit strange that some people feel that way about their designs.

You know the world isn't full of perfectly appealing looking people, right?

Why would the world of ponies be any different?

 

Yup, I guess that's the point of introducing varied character designs!

 

Besides, what some people consider ugly might actually appeal to others. Personally, I find Cadence's appearance somewhat disturbing (the shape of her forehead seems a bit off to me) while I don't mind Fluffy Cloud's crooked teeth.
