Lyra's Pants 154 December 8, 2015 Share December 8, 2015 (edited) I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one to notice this, but one major trend with Fluttershy is her tendency to rage at least once per season. In the Season 1 Finale "The Best Night Ever," Fluttershy slowly falls apart over the course of the episode when the gala animals cower in fear of her rather than be instinctively attracted to her. Fluttershy completely loses control around the end of the episode, culminating in one of the most famous moments in My Little Pony history: "You're going to LOVE ME!!!" Arguably, her confrontations with the dragon and the cockatrice Dragonshy and Stare Master respectively could count as Flutterrage, but in those episodes, she's more controlled and assertive rather than aggressively insane. In Season 2's Putting Your Hoof Down, after taking some assertiveness courses, Fluttershy slowly progresses from a soft-spoken, yet assertive individual into an aggressive bully who will attack anypony for the slightest offenses. The climax of the "New Fluttershy" angle was when Fluttershy insults Pinkie Pie and Rarity's special talents, their prime motivation for living in the first place. The consequences of her cruelty are explored in Fluttershy's realization of how much of a monster she became, to the point where she boarded herself up inside her cottage to the tune of "The Lonely Man." Additionally, in "The Return of Harmony Part 2" and "Dragon Quest," Fluttershy is able to channel hidden reserves of physical strength, being capable of outflying Rainbow Dash while pulling a hot air balloon and stomping Rainbow Dash on her stomach with her hind legs. Needless to say, Rainbow Dash must have felt a lot of pain in "Dragon Quest."No true examples of Flutterrage in "Season 3," given the lack of episodes compared to the other seasons, but Fluttershy has proven her courage and headstrong attitude when the going gets tough by successfully taming Discord, the spirit of chaos, in the vein of a mutual friendship. In Season 4's superhero episode "Power Ponies," when Fluttershy witnesses a harmless firefly being swatted by the episodes antagonist, The Mane-iac, she combines her assertiveness from episodes like "Dragonshy" and "Stare Master" with the sheer unbridled rage of "Best Night Ever" and "Putting Your Hoof Down" and creates a truly terrifying concoction: Flutterhulk. Although she plays the role of Saddle Rager, a character that technically has little relation to Fluttershy, her superpowers are an extension of her real life personality: timid and soft-spoken but with a hidden bold, even monstrous side. And yet despite containing as many episodes as most of the seasons, there's a relative dearth of Flutterrage. What happened? Did the MLP staff want to explore her other personality quirks other than "shy, but with an edge?" Did they think that nothing could ever top Flutterhulk? If you have an idea about the whereabouts of Flutterrage, please reply to this thread. I would really like to hear your thoughts. Silver Stream. 708 December 8, 2015 Share December 8, 2015 Haha. Good call on those. I think the closest to a Flutter rage out was perhaps her scene in "Tanks for the memories" when she was like "yo your tortoise has to sleep.....it's inevitable now cry it out". It wasn't done overthetop but she really owned that scene when she was the one who bluntly broke the news to RD. Though I was half-expecting some sort of outburst in "The Hoofields and McColts" because of the animals being in danger from the family neighbor rivalry SILVER STREAM'S POETRY DUMP I am Silver Stream || My Request Shop
Guest December 8, 2015 Share December 8, 2015 I wasn't expecting it, but I always enjoy seeing Flutterrage. Her outbursts are very real, as this is the side effect of being too passive...it has to come out some time
cider float 2,539 December 8, 2015 Share December 8, 2015 (edited) If done right her rage outs are nice but I don't have much confidence with the way the writers do it now. In Dragonshy, Fluttershy couldn't stand by as her friends were getting bullied and it welled up inside her and poured out like hot lava. Fluttershy's need for cute adorable pets drives her into a frenzy at the Galloping Gala, but still in a very endearing way. There needs to be a knack for her to use it or she has to be pushed towards a life or death situation to blast it out. Just doing it for the hell of it is meh. Kyoshi Frost Wolf 42,205 December 8, 2015 Share December 8, 2015 You know, I actually never thought about this before, so I never 'expected' it, but looking back, seeing Flutters be so pissed off as Saddle Rager, that was something really special. While it is not something I expect, it would be awesome to see something like that again in season 6. Redeem me into childhood. Show me myself without a shell. cmarston1 5,965 December 8, 2015 Share December 8, 2015 I didn't really expect something like this to happen. But if it happens next season she will actually be allowed to do something memorable.
sweetolebob18 728 December 13, 2015 Share December 13, 2015 Except in Best Night Ever (S1 finale) Fluttershy only loses it when others are being picked on. In retrospect, I'd have expected her to lose it in The Hooffields & The McCoys when the McCoys lied about the cake being for friendship but that would have spoiled the finish.
