Crecious 256 December 17, 2015 Share December 17, 2015 I've been a brony for a little while now. And as my income depends on bronies currently. ( I am trying to make a living with my art, at least until I find a more permanent job I enjoy) So, I'm wondering how I can get my name out there a little more. bring attention to my art. I couldn't care less about being 'popular' or famous. I just want my art to be appreciated. That's all. How can I bring my art to the forefront of the fandom? Any ideas? 1 Want quality, affordable commissions? I'm open!
碇 シンジン 27,432 December 17, 2015 Share December 17, 2015 well I dont know If you use deviant art or where you display your art but if you want mmore people to view your art it is good to start by drawing what people want to see, fro example I look through every drawing tagged with RArity in deviantart seeing so many beautiufl drawings expanding your audience can be done by bringing your art to the people because i think its more easy than bringing people to your art so, put your art out there =)=)=)<3 1 Rarity Fan Club
Moony the Cat 3,702 December 17, 2015 Share December 17, 2015 (edited) If you havent already, you can always start a Blog on Tumblr, like an Ask Blog, were you draw answers to questions, your Followers send to you.Like creating a Character, who answers things, kinda like an Rp. Thats a way to get your Art to more People. You can also start a normal Art Blog there and open Comissions there, ive seen a lot People doing it. Thats what i did and it worked pretty well. Nowhere else did i ever had that many Fans than in Tumblr. Thats the only Idea i have. Kyoshi Frost Wolf 41,679 December 17, 2015 Share December 17, 2015 Don't pressure yourself, whatever you do. That is my biggest piece of advice. This fandom is incredibly crowded, so getting your name out there is definitely not the easiest thing to do and it could depend on luck, but just stick with what you do. Always remember to enjoy it firstly. You are under no obligation to do this or that, being a fan is more than enough.
Guest December 17, 2015 Share December 17, 2015 I'll be blunt: Get a second source of income outside of this. That's not me trying to be mean, just hear me out: I want you to be successful and I'm sure your art is lovely, but this fandom is not a certainty. It's not something that we know for a fact will always be there or even there for a long time. If you invest too much of your time into it, then if it disappears then you're out of a customer base and I don't want that. This can be a great secondary source of income for your art, but if you want the best chance of success, reach out and expand the horizon of your work, you'll be thankful you did. There are a lot of artists from other fandoms who are having a hard time transitioning when those fandoms disappear.
Gestum 2,493 December 17, 2015 Share December 17, 2015 Here's my advice: Don't base your income solely on a single group of people. It may be fine now but fast forward a couple of years to when this fandom is dead and forgotten.
Crecious 256 December 17, 2015 Author Share December 17, 2015 I totally understand what you guys are saying. This is not something I want to do for years and years. I want to have this as my source of income, while I enjoy my youth, and explore the world and the options I have. I really like being self employed, and making my own hours. That's my favorite part. I'm not fussy, I don't need to make 20K a year, I just want to make enough to do what I love, eat and travel So, I totally see where you're coming from, 110%. This isn't a lifetime goal, just a next two years. Is what I'm hoping. I used to draw furries, and other animals, but ponies are my 'specialty' apparently. XD Want quality, affordable commissions? simba86 1,541 December 17, 2015 Share December 17, 2015 try to get into something else to make money if possible, i have been in the fandom from the start , when it was all new and just starting there was a huge market for art and plushies and people paid INSANE amounts for really simple stuff, but now that it has been around for 5 years hasbro has really started to push the artists out of the way and stop them with cease and desist orders to make room for all the regular licenced stuff hasbro is putting out. like twilight plushies used to be hand made by a plushie maker and that was the only way to get one and they brought like 200 dollars, now hasbro has ran those people out of bussiness and they are making there own plushies that look exactly like the custom made ones and you can get for them like 20 bucks because they are made in china. even the plush makers who avoided getting a C&D letter from hasbro are really struggling to find takers for there plushies because who is gonna pay 200 for a plushie that you can buy at walmart that looks exactly like it for 20 dollars? all it would take for your income to dry up would be a letter from hasbro's lawers, and besides the market is drying up and being dilluted with legal licenced stuff from hasbro. the pony market is drying up fast for regular artists , and you are going to be competing with all the people who do art for fun and for free so i would find another way to make money. you already have a deviantart account which is the best place to get commisions so short of expanding to facebook and tumbler the sales you have now might be all you're going to get and you might not be able to generate any more sales than the rate you have going now It's better to die on your feet than to live on your knees! You can submit art to Equestria Daily and if they like it you might be in they're next Drawfriend which is a showcase of pony art, it is also used to make your art popular sometimes. I would create a Deviantart page, get noticed there, and then submit your art to EQD. Here is a better example of what Drawfriend is: http://www.equestriadaily.com/search/label/Drawfriend signature made by myself.
