Copper smiled.  "I'm glad you are."  He then nodded at the fact that Midnight felt like a father figure to the Children and the Order.  "It must be hard to be a father figure, isn't it?  Having them look up at you and that they follow you in your hoof steps is difficult, right?  I hope that I can be a great father figure, like you someday."

Midnight thought for a moment, "It can be hard at times to be the one they look up to, to be the one that cares for them. For the original 12 I was their father in a sense, raising them and teaching them how to live healthy and productive lives. It was hard, but rewarding to see how well they grew up, to help them then in turn raise their foals and grow their community. I tied them together with the freed zebra that decided to stay there as well as the newly emerging Fastar Clan, though I didn't meet them until after Fastar himself had died, a shame really, I would have loved to have met him. I traveled the world once I was confident they could run themselves, I had to know the world I was living in if I was going to be living in it for as long as I thought. I met the leaders of other nations, learning of their cultures and the world outside of Equestria. I brought them together into a sort of world congress where they could air and settle their grievances in a neutral ground. When I finally returned to the mountain those that I had been a father to were much older, I have guided the colony as an elder for these past centuries since then. I can never quite leave them alone, though I know they'll do fine I know that I can still help them. It's good that I'm taking a break now." He turned to look at Copper. "I'm sure you'll make a fine father yourself one day, you're a caring individual and anyone would be lucky to have you as theirs."

Copper smiled warmly at Midnight's statement.  He loved hearing that he's a caring individual, and he wouldn't have it any other way.  "Thank you, Midnight.  I'll do my best."  He pondered for a moment, looking outside the balcony before speaking again.  "What would you like to do now?  It's still daylight out."

Midnight looked out at the balcony as well, he shrugged. "I don't have anything in particular in mind, I suppose I'm good to do whatever you'd like. If the elements don't mind I'd be willing to see if I can find a changeling willing to meet with them, but other than that I don't have any ideas."

 

(Personally I just want to know your vision, how you see Equestria as a functioning society ad how you live as a part of it. This is a chance to immerse yourself in the community and to tell me what it's like for you over a series of days with events, you can have crazy things happen if you want, action and adventure if you please, this is your world now and I'm along for the ride.)

Copper nodded.  "Then let's get back to the castle.  I'm sure they'll be delighted to want to know more about the changelings."

 

He led Midnight out of the house and back to the castle.  Copper knocked on the door, to which it opened to find Twilight.  "Oh, hi, Copper, Midnight.  What are you two doing back here?"

Midnight gave a slight nod, "Hello again Princess, I was wondering if you had put any more thought into answering some question honestly before I looked for a changeling willing to tell you all you could ever want to know about the changeling race."

Twilight looked surprised at Midnight's statement.  Then she nodded.  "Of course!  We would be glad to know more about them.  Let's just keep it inside the castle, like we promised.  Oh, and you can call me Twilight.  Since you're a good friend of Copper's, I'm letting you call me by my proper name."  She led Midnight back in the castle, where the rest where.  The group greeted Midnight again.

Midnight looked a bit skeptical, "I call you princess because it is your title and you will receive my respect for it. I am not your friend just yet so I feel uncomfortable referring to you in such an informal manner." He said before they encountered the others. "Alright, in order to meet with a changeling I must first see your answers to these questions. Do answer honestly, the element of such over there will no doubt know if you are being less than truthful in your responses. First, What are your thoughts on changelings given their recent invasion attempt?"

The mane six looked at each other, given that they witnessed and tried to stop the invasion at hoof.  Applejack was the first to speak.  "Well, I thought they were just pure evil for trying to take over Canterlot.  Really, all of us thought that."

 

The rest voiced their agreement with each other.  Twilight then spoke.  "Doesn't all changelings feed on love, like the ones who attacked Canterlot?"

Midnight gave a slight nod, "That's a fairly typical response, especially of those directly affected by it." He turned to Twilight. "Please hold all your questions for the end. As many of them I will likely obligated to not answer, like that one." He turned back to the group. "Alright, next question. Given that you have been told that other hives and queens changelings exist, what are your thoughts on that possibility?"

Twilight nodded at Midnight before his next question.  When the question was asked, Rarity spoke up.  "We wouldn't believe it at first.  We thought that the changelings were near extinction."

 

The rest nodded and voiced their agreements again.  Rarity spoke again.  "We wouldn't know if there were other changelings, concerning they're able to hide their true identities from us."

Midnight looked contemplative, as if evaluating their answer. "A fair point and reasonable assumption. But that doesn't really answer how you feel about it. A more specific question then. How would you feel if you were told that there were changelings living here in Ponyville?"

The mane six looked surprised at the notion that there were changelings living in Ponyville.  Then Rainbow Dash spoke up.  "As long as they don't do anything that makes us hoof them out of town, then they're okay with living here.  Really, I bet Sonic would defend them now that he knows changelings aren't as bad as they seem."

Midnight nodded again, "I suppose that is a reasonable answer, provided you guys don't kick creatures out of town for inane reasons like losing a contest. Alright, I Already know of a nearby changeling who has expressed interest in talking that I could go get if you all want to get your questions answered tonight."

The Mane Six and Copper gave each other surprised faces, as they didn't know there was a changeling in Ponyville.  Twilight spoke for all of them.  "None of us had any idea that there was a changeling here in Ponyville.  But we would like to have him or her here in the castle for questions."

Midnight nodded as he rose to leave the room. "If you want to ask them now I can go get them so long. It shouldn't take long for me to collect them." But if you want to wait until tomorrow that's fine too. It's your choice elements.

The mane six grouped together to discuss when it'll be the right time to bring the changeling here.  Copper merely smiled, knowing that this was going in the right direction of bringing changelings and equestrians together.  The mane six split up, with Twilight speaking up.  "We've decided to wait until tomorrow to talk with the changeling, since they'll need some sleep for the time being.  Thank you, Midnight.  And to you too, Copper.  Without you, we wouldn't have our thoughts about changelings changed."

 

Copper blushed.  "Well, it was merely a mistake in my end.  By his words, I thought I shouldn't have talked about changelings like I did."

Midnight nodded. "Tomorrow then, I'll be sure to give the changeling some advance warning tonight so they can be prepared. Hopefully they'll be able to re-enlighten you about how the actions of some don't define a whole race of creatures. Until then." He turned towards Copper. "Let's be off then, I remember the way back to the house and I would prefer to meet with the changeling in private in case they don't want anyone in town to know their secret okay?"

Copper nodded at Midnight.  "That's fine by me.  Better in private than in public for them in this case.  Bye girls!"

 

The mane six gave their goodbyes to Copper and Midnight as the two went out of the castle.  Copper went back to his house while Midnight went looking for the Changeling in town.

 

As Copper went in the house, he took a seat in the living room while he waited for Midnight.

It wasn't too long before Midnight returned to the house. (Unless you want me to go into more detail about where he went in town.) He took notice of Copper waiting through the window as he went up to the door to lightly knock. Being especially careful not to dent his door with his metal shoes. He didn't know if it was customary to simply enter here so he decided to play it safe by knocking.

Copper looked at the door, as Midnight was knocking on it.  He looked out, just to see who it was, then trotted to the door.  He opened it, giving a smile to Midnight.  "Hi.  So where you able to find the changeling?"  He moved aside to let Midnight in the house, as was customary to him.

Midnight gave a nod with a slight smile to his face. "Indeed, she was quite willing and said she would be more than happy to talk with the elements about her race." He came inside so Copper could shut the door. While it was much warmer here than on the peak of Archback, it was still cooler outside than inside. "She did have one condition though, she would prefer that nobody that lives here, including the elements, knows it was her. She'll arrive at the castle in a different disguise from the one she usually uses and will depart in the same manner to ensure that her identity is not compromised. It's not a matter of trust mind you, but she doesn't want them to think of her any differently than they did before."

Copper gave Midnight's statement some thought before closing the door.  "That's actually a good thing, with what you said."  He gave Midnight a nod before thinking of what to do.  "What would you like to do before retiring for the night?  Any last-minute preps before tomorrow, or what?"

Midnight shrugged, "Nothing really comes to mind, I guess I'll see you in the morning then. Good night." He then proceeded to his room and closed the door behind him. He took a few moments to relish in the feeling of being in a different room before he started to go about preparing for bed, humming a familiar tune as he did so.

"Alright.  Good night."  Copper watched as Midnight went straight to his bed.  He then looked out at the night sky, where the moon was absolutely brilliant.  He closed his eyes.  "Thank you, Princess Luna, for letting me have the chance to talk to your Children of the Night."  he said to himself before making his way to bed.

 

In Canterlot, Princess Luna felt Copper's words and said to herself: "You're very welcome, Copper Strikes."  She then resumed her night shift of looking into dreams of ponies.

 

 

 

[Entering day 7]

 

The Cake family was hard at work in the morning, making the food and beverages before opening the doors.  If Midnight were to awaken, he would find a note on the kitchen with warmed food that read:

 

Midnight,

 

As soon as you read this letter is around the time my shift begins at the Ponyville Mail Service.  I've got you some food on the table for you to eat as I am up earlier than what you expect.  If you happen to find me around town, we can go together for the rest of my shift before setting out for other things that we've planned.
