Twilight smiled.  "It's my own personal copies.  Ponyville used to have a library, where I once lived, but since Tirek blew it up, this castle is what replaced it.  To be honest, I've been avoiding this place, but my friends worked together to make this a home for me, and I'm very grateful of them."

Midnight nodded, "I can understand that, losing a home is hard and as great as the replacement may be it will never be quite like the old one. It's the little things that aren't quite right that get to you, the certain flaws you grew to love now gone. I hope you grow and overcome, time moves too quickly for you to dwell on what was. It's a shame this town doesn't have a full library anymore, are there plans to build a new one?"

Twilight shrugged.  "Not that I know of.  I'll have to ask Mayor Mare about that.  Before you say anything, I know I'm a Princess, and it's supposed to be whatever I say goes, but it's better to have opinions from other ponies rather than having my own.  It just doesn't sound right for me to have the only say on what goes, even though it's what princesses have the power to have."

Midnight had a questioning look to him. "You may be a princess but that doesn't give you power. You still answer to those you rule over, if they don't like your actions enough they will depose you. Besides, you are the princess of friendship, this town is not your domain but the mayor's, it is good that you recognize the local hierarchy. Even if you were the authority here, it is indeed good to get help from others, even centuries of experience will not make you infallible."

Twilight nodded in understanding.  "Yeah, I know.  You must know that centuries of experience very well, don't you?  Your whole life dedicated to taking care of the Order and protecting those you swore to protect... those times must have been rough for you, haven't they?"

"Those times?" he gave a slight chuckle, "You know the saying, 'No rest for the weary'? when you are counted among the immortals your role never really ends. So long as I live I must act in the best interest of those I protect, those times are these times. Yes, the weight of experience and knowledge weighs on me, but you'll soon become acquainted with the feeling, you can't help everyone. One day you'll fail, and you'll carry it with you forever as I do. But enough of this, again we seem to be leaving out those who deserve our attention while they remain."

Twilight looked a little surprised.  "Wow.  Thanks for that, Midnight.  You really opened up more things for me than Celestia could."

 

She led Midnight back to her friends, who were conversing a little bit before they looked at the two.  "Hi, Twilight, Midnight." Copper said.  

 

The rest gave their hellos to the two, before Fluttershy spoke up.  "Did everything go okay in there?"

Midnight gave a slight nod, "I would say it went well, I enjoyed it at least." He looked about at the others to see what they had been doing in the meantime, "So, what do we have next on the scheduled plan for this trip?" Midnight wasn't really in any hurry, but he knew that the shorter lived often wanted to live life to the fullest as they say.

The Mane Six looked at each other in confusion, as they didn't have any more plans for the trip.  Copper however, did.  "I can show you around my house and the Mail Service building.  I need to be there anyway, to pick up where my replacement left off.  She's a nice pony, though she does slip up often."

(Don't dis on Miss Ditzy Doo I'm warning you. I suppose Derpy is fair game though, but still be nice to them or Midnight won't like you any more.)

 

Midnight looked slightly surprised and intrigued. "It's certainly lucky we came back early then if you were scheduled to come back today. Were you planning on leaving my side early and just neglected to tell me? I did plan on seven days after all." Midnight found this scheduling of events to be quite odd, he hoped Copper had a good explanation for it.

Copper looked offended.  He had made a friend, and said friend thinks he'd leave his side early?  He shook his head.  "No, Midnight.  I wasn't planning on leaving you so early.  I just needed to get back to my job after the trip to the Archback Mountains.  Besides, my job only takes me a few minutes to do the whole town barring anything bad happening, and it's all in the morning."

Copper's response only confused Midnight. "If you were planning to spend a whole week at Archback, then you told your job you would be gone for a whole week right? In the which case they shouldn't expect you to come in for another day or two, so why do you have to go in now when for all they know you're still at Archback? Take it from me, rarely has anything good come from ending a vacation early."

The Mane Six looked confused as well, that was until Rainbow Dash spoke up.  "I've already told them at the Mail Service that Copper would be back, as well as him bringing a friend over."

 

Copper nodded at Rainbow Dash.  "Yeah, besides, I told them that I'd be leaving for a few days.  I actually planned on staying long enough to get to know about the place before coming back home.  Sorry if we're confusing you."

Midnight looked more confused briefly before he shrugged sighing. "I guess I don't really have any expertise in this area, it is quite different that what I'm used to." Midnight looked up and over at Copper, "Let's get going then, if they're waiting for you it would be rude to delay our arrival any further."

Copper nodded.  "Let's go then.  Bye, girls!"

 

The Mane Six waved good-bye to Copper and Midnight as they set off to the Ponyville Mail Service building.  Once there, Copper opened the doors to find two ponies talking to one another.  They both looked at Copper and Midnight, and the yellow-maned Pegasus walked over to them.  "Hi, Copper."

 

"Hi, Ditzy!"  Copper replied.  "This is Midnight Star, the one I mentioned a few days ago from when I said about the exchange of cultures between ourselves."

 

Ditzy smiled, and offered a hoof-shake to Midnight.  "Hi, Midnight."

With a slight smile Midnight accepted her hoof shake, "Hello again Miss Doo, so this is what you did with yourself when you stopped adventuring. How is your sister by the way? Daring right? It has certainly been a while since you two came to my castle to find the lost treasure of the Black Knight, how have you been?"

 

Midnight remembered Ditzy, she and her sister were the Sisters Doo, exploring far off places in the world to recover long lost artifacts and uncover lost treasures they had come to his castle expecting ruins and treasure though they found a thriving community instead, it wasn't the first time either.

 

(I really like this aspect of my fannon so I'd appreciate it if you allow it, unless it contradicts yours in the which case I will consider driving the divergence wedge further.)

Ditzy was rather glad when she was reunited with Midnight.  "I'm fine, thank you, Midnight.  It's an honor to meet you again."

 

Copper looked confused.  "Wait a minute.  So you two met before?"

 

Ditzy nodded.  "Yep.  Me and my sister, Daring, ventured to the Archback Mountains before you did to offer our help find the lost treasure of the Black Knight, the time before Discord freed Black Knight."

 

Copper looked excited.  "Wow.  You two should tell me that story sometime."

(The Sisters Doo, My fannon references that in that Ditzy and Daring are sisters and went exploring together, then Daring published the stories by herself and took all the credit for them. The story of the sisters and Midnight is simple, they sought out the mountain for the treasure expecting ruins, and found a thriving community instead, they met Midnight then left on a lead he gave them to some other treasure.) 

 

Midnight smiled as he looked over at Copper, "There's not much to it really, they heard about all the gold and such Sir and I collected from the slavers, and they knew it had to be somewhere. So they eventually found out about the castle, assumed me dead given it had been centuries and since Sir was trapped in stone they thought the castle would be in disrepair and the treasure ripe for the taking. When they arrived they found that not only was I still alive but there was a thriving community living there that no one had ever heard of before. I gave them a place to stay and gave them a treasure of knowledge, as well as a lead towards another treasure since Daring wasn't satisfied with just knowledge, especially after I totally beat her when she tried to fight me for it."

Ditzy chipped in.  "He's such a great stallion, and an amazing fighter.  Daring had greatly underestimated him because of his age, even I didn't know he still had it in him.  I'm never going to forget somepony like him.  And yeah, this is what I've been doing for the past few years, Midnight."

 

Copper beamed.  "Wow.  Hey, is the boss still here?"

 

Ditzy nodded.  "Yeah."

 

"Then I'll be back.  Gotta tell her I'm ready to get my job back."

 

He hurried over to the back of the building, where the manager was.  DItzy looked at Midnight.  "So, I overheard about some exchange going on between you and him.  How did it go so far?"

"Eh," Midnight shrugged, "It's going good so far, he was substantially less curious than I had expected, it's almost as if he's in a rush for this to be over. We did come here a few days early after all. I don't mind too much, it means less time for me away from my castle and the order."

Ditzy looked disappointed.  "That doesn't really sound like him.  He's always been very curious about new things, as far as I know.  Maybe he didn't know how long he would stay at the mountains.  Also, did I hear right that you two raced each other?  How did that go?"

Midnight's expression brightened a bit as a mischievous grin came to his face, "I'm still the fastest Earth pony in the world if you were wondering, though I suppose I barely qualify as an Earth pony. Perhaps it isn't really fair to compare to me, having such the natural magic advantage. Still, it's nice to know that even now I still have it. As to how long he was staying, did he not remember how the application said a week on both ends? Ah well, can't turn back the hands of time I'm afraid."

DItzy smiled.  "I've never doubted you after you fought my sister, Midnight.  And a week, huh?  I think Copper has a tendency to overlook such details."

 

"I was supposed to stay at the Mountains for a week?  So sorry about that."

 

Copper approached the two after hearing he was supposed to stay for a week.  "I guess I overlooked that little feature when I was reading your letters, Midnight.  Again, sorry."

Midnight looked over at him skeptically, "I gathered from our conversations that you don't have the longest attention span, it may help you when you're moving as fast as you do, but it certainly won't win you any points in a relationship when you can only remember the most interesting parts of what someone says to you. I forgive you at any rate."

Copper shook his head in disgust to himself.  "Darn it.  I need to start paying attention more."

 

DItzy laid a hoof on him.  "It's alright, Copper.  You can be trained to have a better memory.  I did it with my sister, I can call her to help you with your memory if you want.  It'll take her a few days to get here, though."

 

Copper smiled.  "Thanks, Ditzy.  You are a great friend."

 

"You're welcome, Copper.  Well, I should get going.  Weather control and all."

 

Ditzy took off from the building and caught wind to the sky.  Copper closed his eyes in admiration of the mare.  "I never knew she had adventures with her sister."
