(You should really ready the story, but in short: Ditzy and Daring were after a flying carpet in Saddle Arabia, they fought over the love of the sultan which led to the injury that caused Ditzy's eye condition and is why they don't go on adventures anymore. Combined with Daring taking the glory of their adventures for herself is why they don't speak to each other any more. Also Dinky is Ditzy's daughter, that is all the important info you can read the rest on your own.)

Copper looked confused.  It was said that she had the condition when she was born, but now that he had gotten to know her better, he wanted to know more.  "When you last met?  I, and everypony here, thought that Ditzy had that condition when she was young.  Did something terrible happen that caused her eyes to cross like that?"

Midnight looked at Copper, "I would assume she moved here after whatever caused her eye condition and she simply told everyone she was born that way so they wouldn't ask how she got it, which is what leads me to believe she does not want to talk about what happened. I don't intend to bring it up if that is the case. Also, it was a decade or so ago when she met me, she was pretty young back then, but all of you are young compared to me. I know of a few things that could cause such an affliction and most of them are traumatic head injury. Perhaps it is best if we continue as if she was born with it and not ask the questions she's avoided."

Copper nodded in understanding.  "I understand.  Well, the only thing left to do now is to go to my house, so let's get going."

 

He led Midnight out of the Mail Service building and near Sugarcube Corner.  He unlocked the door to his house with a key he had packed with him and went inside.  The first thing Midnight could see was a completely clean living room with a sofa on the left side with a table in front of it.  There was a recently watered small plant on the table and a stack of coasters on the side, and there was a fireplace to their right.

 

"This is my house.  I had it cleaned up fully for an occasion like this."

Midnight liked the simplicity of the place, it felt light. Quite unlike his room at Archback, deep in the mountain it always felt dark no matter how bright it was, maybe he would build himself a small house on the plains at the foot of the mountain, it would certainly be a nice change from what he had been used too, or maybe he would excavate his room further so it could be better lit without feeling do cramped. "It's a very nice house you have here, very roomy, even for someone of my size."

Copper had a warm smile on him.  "Thanks.  My family first moved here when I was a young colt, and though it was just the three of us-me, my mom and dad-we liked our house because of how roomy it is.  I sure do miss them, though I do take vacations back to my old home of Appaloosa.  Wonder how they'll react now that both Equestria and Troy will assume their shares of the city."

 

He led Midnight to the kitchen.  It was a well-cleaned area that had the usual compartments of any regular kitchen.  "This is my kitchen.  Nothing really special about it, to be honest."

Midnight looked over at Copper, "You know you don't have to show me every room of your house right? Not that this isn't interesting but I have been inside houses before, why don't you show me what makes your house different, how is your house unique from most other houses?"

Copper thought for a second.  He didn't realize he never had to show everything about this place, and he most certainly had nothing to show Midnight what was interesting in his house.  "Whoops.  I actually don't have anything to show you, then... well, other than your bedroom."

Midnight was surprised, Copper had nothing unique to his house? Nothing he considered to really be his own compared the the world? it was slightly sad, but ultimately it was Copper. Maybe there was something unique but he didn't realize it, that was a problem many young ponies had when trying to find their marks was that they couldn't think of anything unique about them. He shrugged, "Alright then,"

Copper saw the surprised look on Midnight's face.  Was he expecting something different about his house from the rest of Ponyville?  He spoke with concern on his voice.  "We're you expecting something in my house that's different from the rest of the houses here?  I guess I can tell you that I have a balcony in your room upstairs, if that counts.  Only one other house has that, and it happens to be Pinkie's old house, about five houses from here."

"Given how stylized many of the other buildings in this town are I suppose I wasn't expecting there to be a house without any eccentricities here. Indeed it did surprise me that your house is normal compared to the rest. I suppose a balcony would be a distinguishing feature. Here's a better question, would you change anything about this house if you could? If so how?"

"Well, actually all the stylized buildings here are the norm, and my house is like them.  But to be honest, if I wanted to change something in my house, I would want to have a room with something that I can use to practice my Spin Dash.  It'll be nice to keep myself as a ball even as I grow older."

Midnight nodded, "That is certainly a practical answer, and not ultimately too had to accomplish given the means. Besides, one's talent should be cherished for their entire lives and I'm sure you will be no different. You'll find a way to stay with it hopefully till the day you die, there is nothing more sad than someone who loses sight of what makes them who they are."

Copper nodded, then looked at his cutie mark.  "I don't wanna lose who I was meant to be.  Pretty sure nopony does.  There was a time when some centaur named Tirek absorbed all the talents of ponies, taking their cutie marks away, in order to try and take Equestria.  I wasn't here when it happened, but I read the story, and it didn't sound good."

Midnight looked surprised, "Odd, I never heard anything about Tirek. Though I suppose you guys managed to handle it well enough so I suppose I don't have any need to worry about it myself. Perhaps that is another reason why Celestia is holding Equestria's development back, she doesn't want one of her subject's talents to become deprecated, rendered obsolete by progress. It is certainly a sad thought."

Copper shrugged.  "Last I checked he was in Tartarus, so there's a good chance he won't return for a LONG time, if ever, but I'm not sure.  But let's not talk about it right now.  It's too frightening to think about losing a cutie mark.  I hope you understand, Midnight."

Midnight nodded, "I do understand your discomfort at the subject and I will refrain from speaking further on it if that is what you want." Midnight looked about the room a bit absentmindedly as he really had no idea what he ought to be doing then, if anything at all.

Copper smiled.  "Thanks.  Let's go to your room then."

 

He led Midnight upstairs to the room with the balcony.  Inside was a spaced-out clean room with a large, comfortable bed opposite of the balcony on the wall.  A drawer to the side that was emptied a few weeks ago that has a plant, and a separate restroom for personal use.  

 

"Your bedroom.  I know it don't look like much for a room with a balcony, but it's been a while since I have thought of sleeping here.

 Midnight looked around, slightly impressed. "It is much like my room back at the castle, just with significantly more natural light and not overrun by paperwork. It will certainly be a nice change of pace." Midnight set down the bundle he had been carrying on his bed and set his bags on the floor next to it. "In the future, when your guest is carrying things its best to stop where they can put their stuff down first rather than have them carry it all over town." He gave a slight smile, "It was great exercise for me though."

Copper nodded, then looked at Midnight awkwardly, seeing him drop his stuff on the floor.  He chuckled nervously.  "Sorry about that.  Here, I'll put that up for you."  He took Midnight's things and hung up one end on the sturdy hanger nearby in the room.  "My way of saying sorry."

Midnight gave him a sidelong glance, he had put his bags on the floor for a reason but he supposed having the bags hung up kept the room cleaner, he really should have done that himself instead of leaving them on the floor like a slob. "It's fine, I don't get out as much as I used to so this exchange has really been good exercise for me, though I am surprised how in shape I still am despite not having ran like that in such a long time."

Copper gave Midnight a look of surprise before nodding at his statement.  Ever since meeting him he had respected the stallion, and it showed.  "You're still in great shape to me.  Don't ever think you're washed up, Midnight.  You would surprise yourself, even after over 1000 years."

Midnight smiled. "I'm glad you think so highly of me despite having just met me. I suppose it must be in part due to the magic of this immortal body. I get the feeling I would have had a significantly extended lifespan even if Luna hadn't added to it. Who knows how long this world will sustain me, I could be here for a long time and I'm glad that it seems I wont spend centuries with an elderly body."

Copper gave Midnight a blush of delight.  "Of course.  I've been taught by my mother to respect any and all elder ponies, and you're no exception.  The world will change as you know, Midnight.  You just have to be the insight and the messenger of the newer generations to come, as well as I."

He gave a sidelong glance at Copper, "I believe I've already been fulfilling the role of mentor pretty well, teaching and guiding the colony and its order for these many centuries now, I feel sort of like a father to them despite none of them being my children, I suppose Celestia must feel the same way towards you lot, though I'm not too sure none of them are descended from her."
