Pallid blinked, taken slightly aback. He scrutinised the bat-pony before him, noticing in particular its sharp fangs. He would have to be careful with this one. "Have you not seen a unicorn before?" he said, glancing around at the trees girding the field.

"I figured it was a time for a change. Cloudsdale is self-sufficient enough that i'm not needed right away and maybe a friendly face might defuse the situation somewhat," I said with a small hope. A breeze blew by and I allowed myself to briefly glide on the wind as I considered what to say next. "Thanks for the help anyway, even if we don't encounter a threat, I wouldn't mind if you give a little training with this thing. I'm more worried about hurting me than something else," I smiled referring to Gladius secured on her armor. With a quick flap of my wings to regain control, I angled my descent and a small speck appeared on the ground in the distance as we approached the clearing. The oranges and yellows mixed and produced the most amazing sight as evening enveloped the sky. "Too bad they don't have wings, I almost feel for bad for them. The sights are pretty incredible up here," she said enraptured now. "What do you think we'll expect down there? You are a recon pony after all," she asked curious.

"I expect at least a representative from each of the tribes and a gaurd with them." I said "anyway for the training just keep the Blade in sight and you will have less chance of getting hurt from your own sword. I know it's not much but it should help" I smiled

"No I've never seen a Un-i-corn," Mist said as if this was the first time he had ever used that word, which it was, "truth be told I have never seen someone who wasn't a Batpony before." Mist looks at the unicorn in awe. He had never seen anything like it his life. "What does this do?" asked Mist pokeing the Unicorn's horn

"Okay Hidden, I guess we should be fine when we get there anyway. Speaking of which, that definitely isn't a pegasus and what do those horns do. It's kinda weird hehehe," she said conspiratorily. Finally arriving at the clearing,she wasn't sure who was who and those fangs stuck out almost immediately. She made a note to be wary of those. "So I assume we are gathered here for the unified expedition?"

"I beleive we are," said Mist still staring at the unicorn's horn, "we as different tribes must stop some great evil." Mist turned to the newcomer and opened his mouth in awe. He rushed over to her, "your one of them," he said inspecteing her wings, "the Batponies that have feathered wings."

He raised a brow, then sighed and shook his head. He walked up to Mist, then gently nudged him to get his attention. "That is called a pegasus. Their particular ability is flight, and they are very good at it. Us unicorns, however, rely solely on magic -- though each unicorn utilizes their abilities differently."

He smirked, then looked around at the group. "As for your question, I'm sure you all know why you've been called here; there is a threat looming on the horizon, and it is up to all of us to stop it. I believe we are missing a member, however..." Pallid eyed the line of trees, then espied a lone blue pony making her way out of the brush. "Ah, here she comes now."

 

Sprightly made her way over to the group, smiling widely at the others. "Hello!" she said, her spirits high.

 

"And that," Pallid explained to Mist, "is an earth pony. They may not look like much, but do not underestimate them; they are stronger than you think."

Mist stood back and smiled, "well it is a pleasure to meet all of you," he said happily, "my name is Mist from the clan Twister. I was told that I was to be a mediater for all of you." Mist saw a ruseling in the trees. In an instant he picked up his spear aand threw it at the sound. The spear landed and had a wild feasant impaled on it. "Perfect," Mist said picking up his catch, "I was starting to get hungry."

"And I thought the sky was interesting. Who knew so much existed down here?" Rain said pleasantly surprised. "I suppose introductions are in order. My name is Rain and my companion here is Hidden. We come from Cloudsdale although i am not sure myself what requires our combined knowledge and skill. I suppose we need a guide for our group, since Hidden here can fly and has experience in reconnaissance. I nominate her." Taking a moment to breathe, "Unless you think otherwise, I think we should be fine. What do we have for intelligence?" She said addressing the group as a whole.

"I can't speak for everyone," said Mist as he began skinning and preparing the feasant, "but all members of my tribe are taught how to hunt, kill and prepare all types of small animal. We also have knowledge of which plants are edible and which are poisonous."

Well mist, animals won't be a big help" she turned to rain "I think you're right about needing a guide, but I don't think a pegasus should be the guide, think all I know about earth is not to crash into it" hidden turned to the others "your thoughts on the subject?"

Mist shrugged and went back to preparing the feasant. When the bird was skinned and gutted Mist hung it up on a branch. He then moved on to building a fire. But thanks to his training that didn't take long either. Mist grabbed the bird and started cooking it on the fire. He turned to everypony, "you guys like light or dark meat?" he asked.

Pallid curled his lip up in disgust. "Our kind do not consume meat," he said, stepping away from the bird's cadaver. "I think one of the pegasi should be reconnaissance; they have the advantage of flight and can espy what's ahead before we get there. If there are any objections to that, then I nominate Mist."

By now, the sun had set and the moon was in the sky, as the air got colder, the large torch in the middle of the clearing was the only source of light and heat near by, the surrounding woods were covered in darkness.  The sounds of night animals began to fill the air, the buzzing and chirping of insects, to the occasional howl from a timber wolf

"How dare you start a claim that this...bat pony or whatever it it is more adept at flying than we pegasai. I am sure they have skill to be certain but to think they exceed our standards?!? Impossible!" Rain unconsciously rose into the air now.

"Whoa, don't tell me we have something else to worry about about now? Wingless ponies are enough to deal with," said Rain instinctively lowering her altitude out of what felt like a sight sense of fear. Still semi-glaring at Pallid "I am sure it's nothing, it's a shame you other ponies haven't integrated cloud engineering into your lives yet. Our home will one day span the skies! However I digress, Those horns of yours must be useless anyway. I don't see how you guys even compete with us! Hidden here is the obvious choice for scouting ahead."

"I said that Mist can be recon if there are any objections. There doesn't seem to be, so Hidden is fine; at least they aren't jumping to conclusions." He matched her glare, gritting his teeth slightly.

 

Juniper remained quiet, watching the rest of the group. It was fortunate that nopony was paying her any mind, because right now her biggest objective was staying out of everypony's way. Chipper as she was, she didn't want to be in the middle of a heated argument.

Mist stood up and turned to everyone, "stop arguing," he said to them, "why do you tribes all hate each other? Surely you can see that you ate all the same." Mist left his bird the roast picked up his spear. "Now since none of you eat meat. I'll go hunt for some fruit. Feel free to join me." Mist turned and headed into the forest.

Hidden looked at Pallid Flame "stop just stop, we don't need you and rain bickering. I have dealt with her, now please don't take offence, but rain dose have a point." She spoke with a calm and composed voice "we should each have jobs that match our skills." Hidden sat down and looked around and saw earth pony "what's your name, what is it like down here."

"My sincerest apologies," Pallid said, forcing a smirk.

 

Sprightly blinked, then smiled softly. "I'm Sprightly," she said, holding out a hoof. "And it's very nice down here, though I can imagine it would be strange for a pegasus who's not used to it. Really though, it's quite beautiful on the ground -- especially beneath the trees when the sun is shining in autumn."

She smiled and returned the shake. "Oh yes, I'm sure it would be wonderful to have pegasi mingle with the earth ponies," she said with a light nod. "There's so many ways we could help each-other out!" Sprightly looked around, smiling at the other ponies. "Hidden, would you like to go with Mist and look for food together? I'm thinking of joining him, myself."

"I think the pegasi would use a base here for reconnaissance and keep everything to themselves. Self-centered morons, anyway I would like go looking for food, that would be a great chance to see the surface" I smiled.

I turned to Pallid and Rain "don't fight when we are gone, got it?"

I turned to Sprightly and Mist "alright, guys let us go"

Mist nodded at Sprightly and Mist, "Let's go then," he said with a smile, "we can get this done a lot faster with more ponies. Plus you can pick out the types of berries you like." Mist began walking into the woods, "so what can you tell me about your tribes?" asked Mist.

Pallid smirked, the shadow of contempt upon his face. "Of course; no fighting," he said, feigning a pout. He grinned as he watched the trio turn and leave.

 

Sprightly followed Mist into the shade of the towering trees, Hidden beside her as they walked deeper into the forest.
