Derpy Hooves Plushie! and new MLP books

My Derpy Hooves Plushie just came in yesterday!! I was so happy and it came early too!

Now my Vinyl Scratch has someone to play with!

Her was also extremely lush when she got here and still is. Build-a-Bear did a great job.

 

I also per-ordered My Little Pony: Lyra and Bon Bon and the Mares from S.M.I.L.E. yesterday!

I wanted to also order the New Cadence book and Sunset Shimmers Time to Shine, but I'm trying to save up money for this convention. The books don't cost much, but the money gets to be a little too much after lots of buying.

 

Is the merchandise at the conventions usually high quality? Is it usually expensive? Any insight would be great because this is my first convention coming up in April.

I'd say expect to pay about two to three times as much as you did for your Derpy for a similar Derpy from a vendor from the convention. There is a lot of hand-made art stuff so it is pricy, like its good merch and not crap so you can expect to find cutie marks embroidered on both flanks, but there is also some random Hasbro merch like figures, or whatever or TY plushies from some vendors but those are priced up too. Bring like 100 bucks for pony stuff and bring more money only for food and outside entertainment too, cities have lots of other things to do too. Also, if you are driving there money for tolls, parking fees, and gas. That's the best advice I can give you.

It depends on who your buying the merchandise from, how detailed the plush is, how big it is, and what materials were used to make it.

When plushie makers use fabric like minky, they tend to charge more for their works because minky is an expensive fabric for they themselves to purchase.

Thankyou for pointing this out Though minky is more expensive than say, fleece, the cost really depends more on the amount of time put into the plush as well as the demand of a specific artist. Ive been making plush full time for about 3 yrs and have gotten making my sleeping Rainbow Dash plushies down to a science but it still takes me 10 1/2 straight hrs to make one with the level of quality I hold myself to. (Crazy tail/mane colors have to be individually cut and appliqued together.. ughhh!) At minimum livable wage ($15/hr X 10.5hrs= $158 + materials+machinery wear and tear+taxes+electricity) she would cost min. $220 without much profit. When I was first starting out it would take me 16+ hrs and Id end up charging LESS than min. wage ($7.50). 

 

When you buy from a singular artist, you are helping them to pay for bills, student loans and food. Even though we do charge more than the average person would like to pay for a plush, when you purchase a handmade item, you are buying more than the raw costs and a minimal labor. Youre paying for our stabbed fingers, sore wrists, late nights perfecting patterns and the love we put into our product. <3
