@@Illiad Easle,

"That does not terribly complicate things. There are too many witnesses in the restaurant, so an attack would likely come from outside. Salleria or yourself will keep watch for anything suspicious anyways. If we act carefully, and if Cold Steel doesn't plan on simply storming the place, I think our chances are good. Although, there is one more matter of concern. The food could be poisoned."

@,

"I have something I must give you. This potion I brewed will release a cloud of gas if given a good shake and thrown. The gas will incapacitate, but too much exposure will kill," Janeri said as he handed her the vial, "Swift will pose as the chauffeur, you will watch from the rooftops, and I will simply go in and not do anything foolish."

@,

Swift turned to face the griffon with a bit of an indignant expression on his face. "We're going over the plan for the first time actually, this time with actual details about where we're going. Besides, there's another hour or so yet until we need to leave anyway. No sense being unprepared when we can plan ahead."

@@crispy fries,

He turned back to the Zebra, "A valid point, I think he's going to try and make you a deal, a sort of 'Back off or I will kill you' if it is poisoned then either it will be poisoned after you disagree or he will give you the antidote after you agree to back off. I am drawing a blank as to how to counter that though."

"I as well think this meeting is to make a threat, and the threat will definitely be backed up. We must not give in to these threats, and I think now is the time to tell you just what I am after so you know what the stakes are. This artifact holds the power to release any prisoner from Tartarus, and the potential for wreaking havoc is obvious. Now, on to the plan. Swift, you saw the exterior. If I needed to make a quick escape, how far would away you be parked from the restaurant?"

He cringed slightly, "That's the real problem with this city isn't it. Never a good place to park. I'll try to find a spot in view of the front doors, failing that I will be standing in view of the front doors so I can direct you away if need be. I know it's not ideal but that's Manehatten for you."

Salleria groaned, pinching the bridge of her beak in exasperation. "You know what? I'll leave the planning to you. Just tell me what to do."

She took the vial and inspected the liquid in thought. 'An artifact that could release any monster from Tartarus. Who would have thought...'

"Swift has more or less already explained what he will do. He'll drive the carriage, and watch the inside. Salleria, all you must do is find someplace where you can watch the outside. If I do not make it out alive, instructions for payment and who to inform about the artifact will follow. Is there anything else to discuss before we leave?"

Swift looked at the zebra with an exasperated expression. "Stars above," he muttered as he rubbed his face. He turned towards the griffon, "It's like you aren't even trying to be helpful. You don't really care about this do you? Or do you have some ulterior motive for being this useless?"

Swift was quickly growing frustrated by the griffon. "I'm going to go try on this suit." he got up leaving his bags in his chair. "You have a room I can change in?"

"Who says I'm not taking this seriously?" Salleria growled. "You're putting more planning into this than a high profile infiltration mission, whereas my job is simple: to protect you. Not much more to it."

She folded her arms. "Besides, your plan has too many loopholes to even be considered as a proper one. The carriage might get sabotaged. Steel could already have the entire hotel under his hoof. You go in, they lock the doors. They put a 'closed' sign at the door, and you're trapped. And in case you haven't realised, glass today can be really strong. Good luck concealing heavy weaponry."

She held up the vial for others to see. "And i doubt that this is meant to burn through material."

Putting away the vial, she stood up. "All in all, you can't account for everything. I have enough trust in my skills to protect you. I won't tell you how I do it because I don't know yet. Simple as that."

"Well, I do suppose you have a point. While I doubt Steel will have the entire place locked down, as it would be difficult to do so with a place as upscale as the Waldorf, they wouldn't let me walk out the front door. Very well, I will stop bothering you about it."

@,

Swift's eye twitched as he forced himself to continue out of the room and not immediately respond to the griffon. He had more important things at the moment. Once Swift was in the bathroom with the door secured he inspected the suit, it wasn't a perfect fit, but with a few alterations to his disguise it would be.

A few minutes later Swift exited the bathroom wearing a perfectly fit suit. Turning to the zebra, "It seems to fit perfectly," he turned towards the griffon, "We may not be able to account for everything, but we can account for some things. Which is why we are planning. You notice that we seem to have overlooked something? Say something! It does none of us any good for you to just sit there and do nothing while the rest of us work out how to stay safe. You say you trust your skills to protect her but you don't even know where to watch from. It's only become more apparent to me how little you actually care about this because if you did care you'd be doing something to help instead of just sitting there and beating on us for trying to prepare." He turned back to the zebra. "If you'll excuse me, I'm going to check on the carriage, see if I can't figure out how to pull it correctly."

With that he grabbed his bags and left the apartment the same way the griffon entered.

She tried not to show it, but she was getting extremely irritated at swift. 'If I pointed out the flaws in your plan, there'd be more for you to discuss, and more headache for me.'  she growled internally. 'Not that it matters, anyway.'

Salleria turned to Janeri. "I'll take my leave now. I won't meet up with your, but I'll always be watching."

And with that, she left the same way she came.

Janeri took his leave shortly after Salleria. He straightened out his suit, made sure he had his potion, and walked down the stairs to the carriage.

"Swift, I have another detail to tell you. I did not say it around Salleria, as I trust her no more than you do," Janeri said as he stepped into the carriage, "There is a key needed to activate the artifact, and only I know where it is. Steel may or may not know of it, but it gives him a reason not to kill me."

"Oh?" Swift was fairly certain that the carriage had not been tampered with in any meaningful way, IE it would move just fine and not catch fire or explode, at least from what little he knew of carriages. "That could be the reason he wants to meet with you now, to try and get the key to the artifact off of you. Therefore he can't even really threaten to kill you as you might just take the secret to your grave or something like that." He prepped the carriage for movement. "I think I'll keep this on the ground, as strong a flier as I am I don't want to risk flying this without any proper training."

The Waldorf was across town, and the carriage ride took some time, arriving a few minutes before the reservation. As Janeri stepped out of the carriage, he took a moment to admire the grand exterior of the hotel.

Janeri walked through the front doors into the lavish lobby of the Waldorf. The interior was mostly marble, and it was immaculately clean. It was very open, and had a high ceiling that boasted beautiful designs in the marble. Members of Manehattan high society milled around, dressed in the best clothes money could buy, some giving Janeri odd looks.

Janeri took a turn and walked up to the entrance of the restaurant, where he was promptly let in. The restaurant was open, similar to the lobby, and had chandeliers hanging overhead.

There was a table near the center with a single stallion sitting there, who beckoned for Janeri to come. He was an earth pony, and built like a minotaur. In contrast to everyone else, he wore a tracksuit with a gaudy gold chain around his neck, and didn't have the same air of refinement. Nopony dared point this out, and the wait staff gave him a nervous look whenever they passed by.

"You are not Mr. Steel," Janeri said as he sat down.

"Mr. Steel is indisposed at the moment. Y'see, an urgent matter has come up. I'm an associate of him, and I'm here to... talk business," he said.

He kept watch on the front doors for the zebra to return whilst looking to be reading a newspaper he had collected earlier. The mirrored sunglasses hiding which way he was looking.

"Why dontcha order before we get down to it?" said the thug.

Janeri took some time looking at the menu so he could think. Was this thug a hitman, or was he really here because Steel couldn't be?

"I will have the rare oats," said Janeri, "And the wine."

The thug waved down a terrified waiter and commanded, "Hey garçon! Gimme a large hayburger, and the rare oats for the Zebra. Get some wine too, the good shit."

"Right away sir," the waiter said as he scurried off.

When the food came, the thug took a large bite of his burger and said, "Now, I hear you're lookin' for an item that Mr. Steel is real attached to. In situations like these, you'd normally be floatin' facedown in a storm drain before Monday. But, you've got some information about said item that Mr. Steel wants."

"You know not what you meddle in," said Janeri with a hint of anger, "If anyone used the artifact, it would bring unspeakable chaos."

"Listen, I could give a rat's ass, but I don't. You can tell me everything Mr. Steel wants to know now, over a nice dinner at this real ritzy place, or you can tell me later, after you've gotten intimate with an angle grinder. Your choice."

Salleria was a Griffin. A predator with the literal eyes of an eagle. 2 blocks away, she lurked in a boarded-up apartment, observing the scene through what was once a glass window.

'Looks like things are heating up' she mused, bring up her weapon and aiming it at the thug. It was damn near impossible to get a lock on such a small target from this far away: ordinary shots would have to do.

'C'mon big guy. You can do it.'

"Yourself, Steel, the whole lot of you are fools. Do what you wish with me, but I will tell you nothing" Janeri said as he sipped his wine, "You do not intimidate me."

The thug took another large bite of his burger, paused, and said, "That's a real shame then. I hope you enjoyed the meal."

Without saying a word, Janeri got up and left after taking the last bite of his dinner. As he exited the Waldorf, he looked around for anyone following him.

Salleria relaxed, pulling away her weapon and slinging it at her side.

'Gotta move'

She walked out of the apartment and took the stairs to the roof. She hopped over to the roof on the next block, the Waldorf only across the street.

She surveyed the area. Several ponies had broken out of their routines in near unison. Some pony had obviously alerted them. And what else could it be. She prepared to intercept, her second pair of wings poking out under her cloak.

Swift sighed as he put the newspaper down, "Very well sir," He started moving as fast as the busy Manehatten streets would let him, but it was clear that the followers would catch up to then in no time. He gave a light growl. "Looks like I'm going to have to fly us out of here. Hold on to my bags will you? this could be a rough ride."

Taking advantage of a momentarily clear road he quickly built up speed and leaped into the air, pulling the carriage up with him.
