"My, you have turned out to be quite the valuable friend. We may just be able to get a leg up on Steel now. We could be able to gain a wealth of information, and it seems plausible enough that we could find somepony who could supply us with weapons and equipment. Now, when can I expect to meet Midnight Blue?"

Before Janeri had a chance to respond, somepony yelled, "Police!" and kicked in the door. In an instant, several SWAT officers stormed into the apartment, handcuffing Janeri and Swift.

A unicorn police detective who was wearing a trench coat walked in and said to Janeri, "So, you're the stripey S.O.B. that Steel's got such a hard on for. Well, after I deal with the pegasus, I'm gonna take you in, and you're gonna tell Steel everything he wants to know."

"Hold It." A fairly tall unicorn that was a distinctive shade of midnight blue approached the police group from behind. Hotel security moving to block both ends of the hallway. "I'm afraid I'm going to need to see a warrant before I can let you take them out of my building. Or do anything for that matter.

The detective turned around and gave the tall unicorn an incredulous look before letting out a hearty chuckle, which the rest of the SWAT team mimicked. He then took out a cigarette, lit it, took a long drag, and blew the smoke directly in her face.

"There's my fuckin' warrant," he said.

(AKA, why a changeling queen is not someone you anger.)

The unicorn closed her eyes as the smoke blew over her face. She let out a long sigh before she opened them again. This time with slit pupils. Her smile revealed an impressive set of fangs mirrored in the mouths of the approaching hotel guards. "I was worried for a second you actually had something. It would have made killing you just that much more difficult for me afterwards." She lifted the unicorn against the wall with her impressive magical strength and the hotel guards entered the room with guns drawn. "How's this? You tell your little posse to surrender and I don't kill you in the most painful way that comes to mind. Deal?"

With a roll of green fire the hotel staff was now indistinguishable from the assembled SWAT team. "I don't think anyone will even notice or care when you start acting just a bit differently. I was looking for a way to get some more eyes into Mr. Steel's operation. So in a way I'm glad this happened." With a burst of magic she wrapped the detective in a magic bubble and deprived him of oxygen until he passed out before binding him to the hallway with magic. She turned to the standoff as she prepared a shield spell "Unless you want to die I suggest you surrender now."

The rest of the SWAT team was unsure of what to do. This standoff wasn't going to well for them so far, and coupled with the fear and ignorance of changelings most citizens of Equestria had, they lowered their weapons.

"Hey, lady, don't hurt us or nothin'. We're just Steel's goons, and your beef is with him not us," one of them said.

Salleria was finished with her business. She wondered why she couldn't hear anything behind the door, given how thin they were. Sure, it was within possibility that they were sipping tea quietly and... Waiting.

Nah, who was she kidding.

Her headpiece crackled with voices. Not that she bugged the hotel, well, technically it was already bugged, seeing that....

'They are all changelings? What a surprise.' She mused, opening up the window and clambering out. She listened to the reports over the radio, entering the apartment through another window and moving through the building.

Meanwhile, in the standoff, static crackled in all of the SWAT's radios. A voice inaudible to others was heard through the Radios. It was Salleria's. Suddenly looking alarmed, the shut their eyes, turned around and covered their ears.

Within the next second, a flashbang was thrown into view and exploded, blinding everypony but the SWAT. Salleria stormed the room after it, stabbing one of the disguised Swat as she did.

"The changelings don't have radios!" She called out, shooting another disguised changeling as she did.

The swat nodded, their radios beginning to emit static, allowing them to differentiate between the 2 forces. They resumed their positions, opening fire at the changelings, while a select group went about cuffing Janeri, and another attempting to cuff Swift.

In a sudden turn of events, the room was now a massive clusterfuck of a firefight.

Janeri secured and being carried away, Salleria turned to this 'midnight blue' and Swift. "I'm sorry.", she said, bringing up her weapon.

'Loyalty to the mission over all else' she cringed internally.

@, @@Illiad Easle,

Janeri awoke in a dark room tied to a chair. A dim light hung overhead and the vague outlines of ponies could be seen just outside of the light.

"Where am I? Who is there? What happened? Where is Swift?" he groggily said. Janeri could barely keep his eyes open, and his head felt as though somepony had caved it in.

@,

It was a slaughter. Casualties on both sides as the fighting moved to the hall in an attempt to stop the SWAT from removing the zebra from the building. While the changelings were experienced in combat the flashbang was quite effective on their multifaceted eyes, reducing their effectiveness. Swift and Midnight were less effected by the flash, one being shielded by bodies and the other with good reflexes, but even they were stunned by the attack.

The changelings dead or incapacitated by the attack only Midnight and Swift remained to face the traitorous griffon.

Quickly pulling the unconscious detective behind her, Midnight cast a shield spell to separate her from the griffon.

"I should kill you right now you miserable abomination of a griffon. I see you are still as honor-less a race as I thought. I bet no one would even notice. Surrender and I won't have you marked for death."

Salleria grit her beak.

'Honour to the mission at all costs'. Her words echoed within her.

The real question was which mission?

Salleria smiled at the threat, putting a claw on the trigger. "I'm glad you finally resorted to threats and violence. It makes me actually want to kill you."

She shrugged, chuckling a little. "My orders are for the capture of Janeri only, so... Goodbye."

Salleria turned to leave, when static was heard through her headpiece. She paused, and turned back to the changelings.

"Huh. Change of plans. Looks like I'm taking Swift with me too." she said, clicking off her headpiece to mute her mic. "So.... Swift. You may stay and fight, resist all you like. This will end badly for the both of us. Or you could come along peacefully. I'm sure you're interested in finding out where Janeri has been taken. Heck, you'd have a better chance of survival with your horn intact."

She kept up her guard. She didn't want to fight them. She was barely holding herself together after the betrayal. To strike them down after their mercy.... Salleria felt dirty, dirtier than any sewer crap could make her. She could'nt help but let a small tear form at the corner of her eye.

'Please... Don't fight... I promise' she pleaded internally.

@,

Swift and Midnight exchanged glances. "You seem to be mistaken griffon. I can feel you're conflicted, your betrayal has hurt you far more than me. Perhaps you are not entirely without a sense of honor. I will give you one more chance to surrender before you're going to regret what happens next. You may have made off with the zebra but dozens of changelings are coming to my aid as we speak. You're choice is simple. Surrender or Die, but I will not fight you."

Swift pulled his silenced pistol from his bags and was ready to fire. "I knew you weren't to be trusted, I only wish I had seen your betrayal coming so that I could have ended you before you had the chance to betray what little honor you had."

They could feel the rumbling of many hooves coming up the stairs behind the griffon.

"I suggest you choose quickly, my changelings don't appreciate when someone puts their queen in danger."

Salleria felt the rumble too. "Who says all those hooves are your children?" She asked. She didn't expect an answer. "Steel's troops are here too."

The queen's words ate at her. They reminded her of somepony. She struggled to put a claw on it.

"Hundreds will die tonight, and it will make no difference to our little conflict." She sighed, closing her eyes. "Violence. Always violence. I kill you to get this. You kill me to get that. So simple. On paper, at least."

The sound of thundering hoof steps turned to alarmed yells and gunfire.

"This incident will not go unnoticed by the princesses. You are selfishly risking the very future of your race and other hives for the potential life of one changeling. Is it worth it?" She asked.

She turned to Swift, evidently saddened at his words. She saw a little of herself in him. "Don't think this was easy for me. I know how you feel."

She felt a pang of pain at the memory.

Midnight shook her head sadly but with a slight grin. "I fully expect the princesses to learn of what happened here, how a peaceful colony of changelings was suddenly attacked by the ruthless criminal underground, I will publicly beg for her aid if it would force her to crack down on this city. She'd be forced to help us or lose face before the nation and the world. My very appearance would show that there are other hives, kind hives that have been oppressed by criminals. Can you think of a more touching story?" Midnight turned and started walking towards the other end of the hallway, pulling the shield along with her. Swift followed dragging the detective.

"I suppose you'll have to follow us our you'll fail your mission, but what does a traitorous griffon like yourself care?

Salleria gave a small laugh in return. "I doubt the ponies of Manehatten would be very pleased about finding out that changelings have been living among them for this long. I heard that the noble court is cracking down especially hard on illegal immigrants now, inclusive of you. Spearheaded by a pony named... Donald Trump? I think? Who do you think Celestia would listen to. Her ponies? Or you?"

She shook her head. "It doesn't matter. Whether all changelings be banished or Manehatten be cleansed of this criminal scum at the end of this. I have nothing to lose. I don't care."

She began parting ways, turning to a bare wall. "Call off your troops, there is no more point in fighting. See you again, Swift."

An alien whirr was heard and a blue projectile was launched out of the umbrella at a high speed. It impacted the wall and blew a hole through it. It revealed another room, this time, one with a window.

Salleria turned on her headpiece. "Withdraw".

She left through the window, taking to the skies.

The lights revealed an old stallion clad in a fancy blue suit. The bright light was reflected off his gold rimmed glasses.

"My my, I don't have guests here very often, let alone an exquisite Zebra!" He said delightfully. "Would you like some tea, perhaps? I heard from my contacts that you do enjoy such beverages."

@@crispy fries,

Midnight and Swift moved to the subbasement of the building, the carnage in the lobby was unfortunate, but there seemed to be more dead and captured ponies than changelings. They proceeded straight to the Throne room where they bound the detective to a chair and waited for him to wake up.

"I suppose we'll have to talk to the princesses soon. I'll write up a request for sanctuary detailing what happened here and have it delivered directly. Personally would be best, but I don't want to risk leaving any time soon. I should also prepare, this sort of rouge action by police forces will not go unnoticed by the guard for long and I'll have to write a statement denying that changelings live here, all they'll have in opposition is the testimony of those that attacked the building."

"We should let the princess know about my mission too, Hopefully the reports of her student studying changelings weren't fabricated, if it is true it would certainly boost our chances of having the princesses come to our aid."

"We can only hope."

Midnight began to write out a letter detailing the events as well as a plea for protection and a formal apology in behalf of the attack by the other hive. She had heard the reports of the whitetail hive allowing her student to study changelings and was sure to mention that in her letter. Swift appended the details of the tartarus summoning artifact they were trying to recapture as well as the fact that they key was in Canterlot so they could be on high alert for someone going after it.

They sent of the letter with a trusted messenger and hoped that it would be a symbol of peace and goodwill.

(I do believe the changelings were here first. Rather, Equestria formed around them.)
