@,

The queen turned towards the griffon, here eyes glowing with intense cyan light. "I'll deal with you later.". She resumed firing on the weak-spots discovered by the other two. It seemed she was incapable of controlling the volume of her voice in this state. The cyan substance morphed throughout the holes in her legs, forming four more supports to give her more stability when firing.

Zeb landed beside his queen, ready to assist her in any way she needed.

Swift landed too, happy to see that the queen had brought his rifle with her. "By they unchanging stars you are amazing." He quickly assembled his rifle and prepared to fire. "This won't do much damage to it's armor, but if you cam point out a weak spot it should be able to do some real damage. Don't worry, I loath you with all my being and I will likely try to kill you when this is over but for now I will overlook your betrayal."

Salleria nodded in thanks. "Good that you have your priorities straight."

She flung her umbrella towards the sides, flicking out the solid exhaust pellets generated from the powerful blast.

"I have destroyed the other rocks on it's chest, aim there." She suggested, flying above the monster and firing 3 explosive shots at the monster's face.

@,

Swift took careful aim, charging the rifle as he did before, firing a powerful bolt at one of the indicated spots on the monster. He was already charging another shot as the golden bold flew across the sky.

The changeling swarm drew back, forming a ring just outside of the monster's reach and firing inward, forming a near constant barrage of a few hundred magic bolts every second. The fear of the city, though not their preferred food source, provided them with quite the supply of energy to continue their assault.

The queen's fire rate was declining, but the power of each shot was increasing, quickly approaching long range artillery in destructive power. It was not without cost however as this attack was clearly taking a toll on the queen's body. A few dozen changelings broke off from the ring to supplement their queen's magic.

(And that's me for the night. See ya'll in 8ish hours.)

Janeri and the detective could see that everypony was aimeding for the warrior's chest. Janeri focused his fire on the exposed spots, causing the warrior to stagger further. He was momentarily put off target when the carriage swerved as the streets shook.

"Drive straight!" exclaimed Janeri.

"Shoot straight!" responded the detective.

After suffering more damage, the warrior raised its tail, and shot a laser from it which cut a wide swath near the changelings.

@@crispy fries,

Divided they were weak, but together they were strong. The changelings that would have been hit by the laser stopped their bombardment to cast a shield, protecting from the worst of the strike. Nevertheless, a few more changelings fell to the strike.

Swift continued firing at the exposed weak spots, golden bolts flying across the sky at a fairly even rate. He hoped they were doing some damage.

@@Illiad Easle, @,

The constant bombardment from the changelings, aided with fire support from Janeri and Salleria, were wearing down the warrior. It let out another roar as it stumbled back, and weakly got up.

"It is on its last legs! We must finish the job!" Janeri yelled.

@cripsy ( hope you dont mind me controlling the monster to destroy the tower )

Salleria was at the base of the tower in front of the warrior, slowly backing into it. Lava leaked from the warrior's mouth, desecrating the ground below.

'shit' she thought, backing further into the tower and opening her umbrella, charging an explosive shot.

However, she would not get the chance to land the hit, as the Warrior opened his mouth. And within seconds, the world became fire.

Fire blasted out of the Warrior's mouth, melting the base of the tower as it pushed into it. Salleria hid behind her shield, acting like a rock in a stream of water, the fire flowing off it. Out of the corner of her eye, she noticed several of the tower's steel collumns melting and giving way under the monster's force and the intense heat.

'Huh, looks like jet fuel can melt steel beams. Or whatever the monster is breathing.'

Sensing a collapse, Salleria backed out through the other end of the tower and moved out of the flamethrower's way, letting loose her charged shot at a key pillar, blowing it up. The tower began to collapse on itself, the pillar breaking one by one as they gave way to the building's weight. It would not kill the warrior, as it too had sensed the collapse and had the instinct to clamber out just in time.

The tower collapsed in a heap of rubble and dust, taking down several nearby buildings along with it and shrouding the area in a cloud of opaque dust.

@ Illiad Easle

Salleria noticed the opportunity. With the combined efforts of the changeling forces and Janeri, as well as Manehattan's defence force, her presence wouldn't make much of a difference in the fight. She escaped through the alleyways, laying low. She knew that if she flew, she would be spotted immediately.

Hopefully, the monster was a good enough distraction to prevent anything from chasing her.

@@Illiad Easle, @,

The constant fire at its weak spot eventually became too much for the warrior. It reared itself up and roared with its dying breath, before falling with a thunderous crash.

"We have done it!" Janeri cheered, "The beast is slain!"

The detective, as well as seemingly the whole city, cheered with him.

@@crispy fries,

The queen stopped firing, and would have collapsed from the exhaustion if not for the cyan pillars that supported her. The changelings that had been supplementing her magic broke down the pillars and began to carry the queen gently back to the hive, workers already clearing the entrance to the smashed tower so they could access the hive. The swarm dissipated as the changelings went to check on their loved ones and other relationships. Many had awkward conversations in their future though most managed to return to their disguises without incident. Over six dozen changelings fell to the monster's attacks. Their bodies, unrecognizable to those they cared about, quickly burning to ash.

As tragic as the loss was, Swift didn't care about that. The griffon was nowhere to be seen, and he was not about to impose any further on the hive that was hosting him. He took wing, scanning the remains of the city for the griffon. Maybe she was crushed under that building? A fitting end for her.

@@Illiad Easle,

The armored carriage pulled up next to Swift, and Janeri hopped out.

"Good luck to all of you. Oh, and, uh, tell the queen I'm sorry for blowing smoke in her face and breaking her door," said the detective before driving off.

As Janeri walked up to Swift, as luck would have it, he saw a shine in the rubble. It was the artifact. Janeri picked it up and looked at it for a moment before saying, "Swift, or whatever your true name may be, I thank you for your service. You acted bravely and with courage, and I would be honored to call you my friend," Janeri then held out the artifact, "This can never happen again, and I think I can trust you and your queen to keep this safe."

@@crispy fries,

Swift looked over in surprise, in the stress of the situation it would be understandable that he had missed or simply not considered such an obvious distinction. "I'm glad to have been of service, Odys by the way, is my true name. I suppose you may have not noticed but the queen here is not my queen, we're completely different colors after all. I'm going to assume you meant the queen here as you've never met my queen, so I will ensure that the artifact is passed to Queen Sleipnir safely. The key I will take with me to my own queen, the greater the distance between the two parts the better." He stowed the artifact away in his bags, donning his default disguise.

He turned, ready to return to the hive he had been staying in before turning back. "If you do see the griffon again, let her know I'll get her some day, but given her aid today I can give her a head start to escape." He sighed, " You never did really get to meet Midnight Blue, I suppose now's the perfect time to get all your questions on changelings answered."

@@Illiad Easle,

"As much as I would still be delighted to ask, I feel as though now is a bad time. Perhaps you should come visit my shop in Canterlot sometime to catch up. Now I, like yourself and Salleria, must depart. My business in Manehattan is done, and I must return home. Goodbye."

With that, Janeri walked off, confident the artifact had been put in safe care.

(The end, I guess.)

Salleria idly stared at the trees as they rushed by, munching on an apple. She leaned back on the train seat. She suddenly felt very, very tired.

'Looks like I was right' she mused. 'Violence, violence, always violence. Violence: the answer to everything.' .

She sighed, her breath fogging up against the train's window. She drew circles in it.

'Maybe it can't can't be helped. But what sets you apart from evil is what your violence is used for.'

Her thoughts wandered back to Manehatten.

'At the cost of Steel's tower and the lives of many ponies and changelings, relations between equestria's changelings and ponies will prosper. Manehatten's underground has been dissolved. Maybe this whole fiasco wasn't a bad thing after all....'

One thought led to another.

'Janeri... He would most likely take back the artifact. I still feel that he should return it to the princesses.'

'Swift... A changeling. I must be wary around them now. No doubt he'll hold a grudge.'

She yawned.

'That's it for me. This has been exhausting'

She flipped off the cabin lights and drifted into a sleep.

She woke up a few hours later, a dark look crossing her face. 'Ain't no rest for the wicked, eh?' She half groaned.

@@crispy fries,@,

Sleipnir sat on her throne, watching as her workers began the reconstruction of the tower. It would be better this time, now that the secret was out, and they had saved the city, things were looking up for changelings everywhere. Many of the existing relationships were ruined, new identities were made and fresh starts were had. Things would be back to stability soon enough.

The queen sighed, even a few days later she was exhausted from the fight, it was time to make a new queen. A few hours later a new queen was growing in a cocoon. Sleipnir would be able to rest from all this in another century at the latest. She looked forward to it.

Swift kept the key on him, stored in hardened gel in one of the holes in his legs it would be safe until he could return to his hive. He just had to find a griffon first.
