By now, Redwood's shield was charged up again. She blocked the attack with it, and while it didn't totally fizzle out, it was still fairly weakened. She set the Appleoosa Buster to the highest power setting, firing in large swaths to cut down the last of the group that was attacking her. Redwood never stopped moving as well, staying with her circle pattern to keep the wisps together.

They stopped, suddenly, buzzing higher, away from the threat. They almost seemed to converse with eachother--and it was clear what they were thinking. She was a threat. Too much so to try and fight back against...They had already suffered extreme casualties from only a few of her attacks.

Blitz simply facepalmed and sighed. "This is why I hate fighting bugs." He muttered to himself before flying in circles. Eventually, this created a mini tornado and all the bat pony had to do was basically direct it at the swarm.

Looking around for a moment, Redwood's mini-swarm spotted Blitz, launching the tornado at their brethren. Instead of attacking Redwood again, which had proven fruitless by now, they attacked Blitz instead...From their position, which happened to be behind him. A cheap move--but then again, they were only semi-intelligent bugs...And they were out to win. The weakened swarm couldn't have conjured up a fatal strike--but should it hit, it would still cause a fair amount of damage.

The wisps that were caught up in Blitz's tornado were swept away; their flying abilities were too weak to escape the vacuum. The few who managed to get out, were easy pickings. Having been separated from the swarm, they were vulnerable...No danger whatsoever.

So they fled. The tornado having faded by now, most of the wisps that had been caught up inside it, were battered and bruised from the hurricane. Alongside the wisps that managed to evade the tornado, they scattered away from the fight.

Shadow said while trying to hide the pain he was in as he scraped them off,

"Ya really think this painful. I dealt with worse and I not going down"

He grabbed one of his knives and started stabbing at them, luckily the blade was as tough as his scales or he would have cut himself many times when he missed

The wisps that were cut, fell off, blinded by the pain. A few even dropped dead immediately. Although Shadow was rapidly taking damage, his...Method was proving effective. Enough to intimidate the wisps that remained on him enough, to the point where they let go, backing off warily...Observing him.

Docile, for the moment.

Gale roared in surprise as she was momentarily blinded. Her scales were fireproof, so that wasn't a big concern for the moment. Of course, her eyes would sting for a bit. The dragoness then began to release a steady stream of flames into the swarm

Her mini-swarm seemed to stiffen, as the flames hit them dead on. Rapidly floating higher, and higher to get away from the burning heat, a few rained down, scorched enough to disable it's ability to fight--but still very much alive. They rolled weakly on the ground...A soft squeak coming from them, as if calling for help.

The ones that had flown high into the air were building up another blast--each glaring down at Gale, with revenge in their eyes. Unlike the previous blasts the wisps had launched thus far, this mini-swarm was building it up to be a heavy one. Strong enough for the swarm to have trouble containing it...

Copper heard the cooing, and he knew he was making a great friend.  He saw the wisp watch the battle as well, and he still pet the wisp gently.  "Those are your friends, right?  I'm sorry you have to witness this, I would be mad if I saw this myself if I were you.  It might be best if you hid for a while.  They're gonna come back soon, and they'll find you."

The small wisp was silent for a moment. Before zooming out, into the fray, at a surprising speed...Frantically dragging a fallen wisp back next to Copper. The wisp it brought back was one that Shadow had cut--and was fading fast.

Copper's wisp buzzed around it frantically, before going back out into the battle-field, attempting to drag back another one of it's barely-alive cousins.

...And if Copper was observant, he would hear a mass buzzing behind him start to build up. The damaged wisps that had managed to flee were hiding behind him, looking as if they were scared...Shivering, with dread.

Copper was surprised at the speed in which the wisp had moved to the arena.  "Hey, wait!" he shouted, putting a hoof out to try and stop it.  He didn't know what was happening, until he the wisp came back with its cousin.  He was shocked as to why the wisp was doing this, but it kept going, and the whining kept getting louder from the other wisps assembled.  Tears were coming out of his eyes as soon as he realized the kind of torture this was.  "They're-they're innocent creatures.  Why are they making them do this?"  He broke down in tears with the wisps, feeling their pain.

Photon Jet was spectating the live Monster Raid battle featuring the two contestants. He was amazed by the abilities and skills each contestant has to take down the creature. However, he didn't think Monster Raid battles are his cup of tea as he was eager to do 1-on-1 duels. Still, it's nice to look at what's happening in the arena, even though it gave him a bit of a shiver from the cold air.

Gale honestly felt a bit guilty when she heard the wisps in pain. "I'm sorry." She thought to herself as she watched her swarm build up an attack. The dragoness then flew into the air in an attempt to avoid the attack.

Blitz gave a slight frown as he watched his swarm disperse. To be honest, it disgusted him to take the life of another, but he knew that it was needed to win.

Second Sight frowned as he observed the battle from a screen. 'Looks like it's already time for those petty emotions to come into play. Arguments about morality and the like.'

He took a long sip out of his milk coffee/tea ( what. ), letting out a satisfied 'ah' at the end. 'Most of the monsters used in the arena have either been marked for extermination by third parties or are looking for challenges themselves. And last I heard, wisps were known for being pests. They would have died either way.'

Redwood allowed herself a moment to rest and to let her gun cool down. She then knelt down and took careful aim at the largest mass of wisps that was observing Shadow. Redwood kept her weapon on the maximum power setting, and fired a large blast at the wisps.

It hit them dead-on, resulting in a fair amount being blasted away. For a moment, it rained bits and pieces of the wisps...The ones who weren't hit seemed to stop, and stare at the ground.

Turning, slowly, towards Redwood, who was surrounded by parts of murdered wisps. The normal blue electrical aura that had been surrounding them thus far was turning a malicious red, crackling outwards. Their buzzing was replaced by what seemed to be a continuous, steady growl...Before a charged was passed between them at an alarming rate--finishing in a mere second, before being fired at Redwood with deadly accuracy...Curiously enough, the wisp that let loose the charge, exploded upon firing it.

The wisps had entered a state of do or die. An off evolution trait, to say the least. Triggered by extreme amounts of anger, and fear, they start to hyper-charge themselves, forgetting all safety regulations that they might follow. A last ditch effort to kill the predator--before they all perish.

Shadow bent a little lower while using his scythe hold him up. He was glad that the charges have stopped but he didn't show it. He looked around to see how the others were doing. He grabbed his knife and threw it with a spin at the main group. The throw almost made him lose his balance but he was able to stay on his hind legs

Gale honestly felt a bit guilty when she heard the wisps in pain. "I'm sorry." She thought to herself as she watched her swarm build up an attack. The dragoness then flew into the air in an attempt to avoid the attack.

The wisps that were above Gale, getting ready to fire their attack, were about to shoot before the one wisp handling the charge was expertly killed out by Shadow's thrown knife...Disabling the attack altogether. They seemed confused why the dragoness wasn't yowling in pain, before focusing their gaze on Shadow...But only for a moment, as their sight was fixated on the battlefield--ridden with wisp corpses.

Just like with Redwood's swarm, they too began to emit a violent red aura, turning back at Gale, building up a charge to fire--once again, the wisp who fired the bolt exploded, sending the hyper-charged attack at Gale...Strong enough to tear apart steel.

Blitz gave a slight frown as he watched his swarm disperse. To be honest, it disgusted him to take the life of another, but he knew that it was needed to win.

The wisps that had scattered from the fight either hid behind Copper, or zipped around aimlessly. The ones zipping about were visibly screeching to a halt to stare at a fallen cousin, backing up ever so slightly, and shooting off in a different direction.

...However, a single, lone wisp remained. A specially colored one, much like the one accompanying Copper. It stared defiantly up at Blitz, crackling with it's purple aura. As if judging him. Questioning him.

One single demand, unsaid, left hanging in the air.

'Why?'

The buzzing steadily grew, as around twenty wisps were now hiding behind Copper. A different defense mechanism in effect--they were smaller then they were at the start. Their aura almost the same color as the air around them, faded. Completely docile. Completely overcome with fear. Complexly...And utterly...

Defeated.

The specially colored one by now, was nestled in Copper's mane, still shivering frantically.

With no time to dodge, Redwood put her shield up again. As expected, it fizzled out when the blast struck, although Redwood was sent flying back.

"Fuckin' Varmints," she muttered as she picked herself up.

Excalibur observed the battle with pride. The tournament was his family's line of work, after all. Seeing it begin without a hitch... it felt like the miracle of childbirth. It brought a tear to his eye.

Behind him, Crispy sheets tapped him on the shoulder with a telekinetic bubble. "Excalibur, our agent has reported back. He says that the locals are extremely grateful to us for the removal of the Wisp hive, and a monetary reward is ready for collection."

The stallion grinned in satisfaction. "Marvelous. See to it that Enzo gets his share. That wisp hive isn't the pest we've been hired to get rid of."

It was a brilliant business plan, really. Ponies hire them to get rid of monsters and they make money off them by using those monsters in the tournament. Because really, when you want to fund a tournament of this scale, you need some serious cash.

Excalibur turned back to the battle, lazily watching the wisps zip about when something- or rather, somepony caught his eye. He up brought his iStone in his magic and began typing a message.

'Keep an eye on the blue pony with the trident. Copper strikes, i think his name was. He hasn't fought yet, and he doesn't look very happy.'

"Fuckin' Varmints," she muttered as she picked herself up.

With some distance between herself and the wisps, Redwood took another high power shot at the wisps, then proceeded to run in a serpentine pattern to throw off their aim.

They had descended upon her, spreading out thinly, covering a wide area. Considering their increased field of aura, they were able to space out quite a bit, making what looked like a storm to be truly wary of. Due to their spaced formation, it was no longer as simple as shooting fish in the barrel--her attack, missing hugely, only shooting two out from the swarm altogether.

Gathering up their charge, they passed it between themselves, multiple bolts bouncing within the storm, before they attacked with several bolts...Resulting in many on their side exploding as a result.

The attack arced towards Redwood, each deadly...

Blitz noticed the wisp and was surprised when he looked at its aura. It was angry at him and the others for the deaths they had caused and he looked at the ground. "I'm sorry. I'm sure you guys were just minding your own business and then you got dragged into this mess." He muttered. The bat pony then held out a hoof, hoping for forgiveness. "I promise, I'll stop this. You may want to stay with me just to be safe, though."

The wisp stared at him for a long moment. It slowly approached him, it's wide open eyes observing his every move...

Before making a small, almost-pitiful shock at the hoof Blitz had presented. It seemed to be disappointed, in itself, for not being able to muster up an attack that would actually hurt, on it's own...But even so, it still tried again. And again....

It's attacks weakened with each attempt, and the wisp itself was steadily slowing down, obviously overexerting itself.

Desperately trying to somehow punish one of the ponies committing genocide on it's kind.

Shadow stood straight up, which was almost too much for him, and said,

"I'm not down and I'm not out. Come on, bring it ya floating speck of dust."

He grabbed three throwing knives and tossed them side by side, so there would be less chance to dodge them, then he slightly leaned on his scythe for support

Gale noticed the lightning coming at her and barely dodged out of the way. A stray, less powerful arc, hit her in her tail, causing her to fall to the ground.

They were rushing after the falling dragoness, intent on unleashing another strike, before three knives shot through their ranks, taking out two.

As a whole, they all turned to focus their sights on Shadow--and they didn't look happy about being interrupted. Gathering a charge that split into three others within it's storm, they fired at him, with every intent to kill.

As for Gale, after the bolt had been fired at Shadow, they turned to her again, gathering a single, devastating charge...One that seemed to be difficult to contain, for the wisps.

Copper was still crying.  He felt terrible for the wisps.  He didn't know what to do to help them.  They were dying, and nothing he could do would be able to save them.

Then,he opened his eyes, a look of pure rage overcame his face.  Tears were still streaming out, but anger took over his soul.  He said, in a defiant way: "I will... make them... SUFFER!"

The wisp in his mane seemed to encourage that thought, bouncing a little on his head, with a determined look on it's face. The wisps hiding behind Copper were all but invisible at this point--they could be mistaken for a series of rubber balls spilled on the ground behind him.

Blitz sighed as he felt a bit of pain from the wisp's attack. After it stopped, he simply picked it up and tucked it into his name, before looking around. The bat pony was angry, and that was simply putting it lightly. "I'm not some pawn in their game." He thought.

Gale slowly stood and looked at the wisp swarm above her. The dragoness then moved back, not really wanting to be close to them when they released the electric charge they were building.

Left with few options, Redwood attempted to roll out of the way of the attacks and get herself out of the cloud of wisps. One of the bolts struck her in the side, sending a jolt of pain through her body. Redwood swore and picked herself up, and set her weapon to a lower power setting. She then began to backpedal away, firing in short, quick bursts at the swarm.

The fight had been dragging on, with the wisps dying left and right throughout the entire battle. The original storm of roughly a hundred, had been dropped to below twenty.

@DwhitetheGamer

Several wisps stayed behind him, still just about hidden. However, a sharp eye could locate them, rallied behind Copper. The wisp in his mane nodded, at his resolve...

Maybe, not all ponies were bad...

@Drago Ryder

The wisp in Blitz's mane struggled, obviously against being allied with him. The shock it was releasing was barely noticeable, at this point...

The wisp storm above Gale let loose the attack--by far the biggest bolt in the fight thus far. It was violent enough to even cause damage to the swarm that had thrown it...More then a few wisps perished, charging it. Dropping from the sky, with no charge left to keep them aloft.

The bolt arced towards Gale, striking at her--with various mini-bolts branching off from the main attack, tearing apart the land around her, should she manage to evade the main bolt.

@crispy fries

Her swarm had been rapidly dwindling, from both her attack, and the kamikaze attack pattern they had adopted through the fight. Barely enough remained to attack--or, rather, would've attack. Her bullets pierced through the one casting the attack, forcing them to start from square one once more.

The red aura had faded, smaller then it was normally at this point. A meek three wisps in total, weakly trying to fire another bolt at her...And if one looked closely, they would see that they were...Consoling each other?

@reader8363

A lone wisp that had been wandering the field answered Shadow's call, standing defiantly in front of him, as if it were intending to fight him on it's own.

Slowly surrounding itself with the berserker's red aura...It started to float towards him.
