Staff Behavior As of Late

This is an interesting debate I like debate, I can see both sides of the argument. I've also got an interesting point of view. Firstly I know some of the staff consider some of them rather good friends and I know what there like behind their 'formal' modes, they like us members are people and people make errors. However, now please Troblems don't kill me I made you some signatures... but Admins are the heads of staff and like any leaders when they drop the ball it looks really bad I mean the Sectionals make errors and we are like 'meh' but Admins ouch...I suppose proof reading might help...?

Anyway now that I'm going to be murdered I'll say my final words, being one of those sops who wants to join staff (not currently I've lost my mojo for it) and being a former subscriber when I had money. I rather hope the attitude is Members, Donaters, Subscribers, Staff in this order of who should be paid attention to most and listened to. People who can pay money should get even less say as that may cause corruption, we don't want that not to mention the Members are the largest group by a country mile and I agree the community is nothing without all of us members, money givers and staff.

My suggestion is well someone to keep the staff in check, a great position of power but some one like for a police example polices the police, a Mod for the Mod's maybe someone who simply come edits bad staff posts or make recommendations to stop things like this happening? I'm not sure just firing off some ideas. Now I wait for Troblems to kill me...

The only problem with this idea is, what happens when the police who police the mods need policing?  We need to make police for them, and what happens when the police of the mod police need policing?  Something like that just keeps going on and on in a cycle.  Its why we have the feedback section.   We expect the members of the Forum to police us, which is what topics like this one are accomplishing.

@@11th Doctor Whooves,

I see your point, merely adding a suggestion

But people carry on this is a good read.

Actually thinking about it you could make the position a democratically appointed position on a monthly basis? (I'm just thinking out loud)

Actually thinking about it you could make the position a democratically appointed position on a monthly basis? (I'm just thinking out loud)

But who would vote on it, and how would they be nominated?  Would it be staff, or a member?  It could turn into a popularity contest, or a member who has it out for staff, because those do exist, could make sure they get elected to the position and then take out whatever anger they have with the staff out on them and just call it policing.

The idea isn't a terrible one, it'd just be tricky to pull off and not have it abused.

@@11th Doctor Whooves,

Yep it would be a tricky thing to do, but some good things are not easy :D (Swear that's a quote of someone)

Anyway I'm gonna shut up and just watch now, I don't want to hijack this.

Eh, its a feedback topic, and you're giving your feedback.  As long as its a quality and on topic post, you're not really hijacking it, just adding to the discussion.

There's nothing wrong with taking staff-related issues to public. Honestly, we want to encourage that. If the user base is afraid to speak up because they're afraid of action being taken against them, then what does that say about us? Granted, especially with a forum as large as this one, people may feel that regardless, but it's not a feeling we really want people to harbor. In the end this was made to be a forum to fans and non-fans to mingle, converse, and other activities.

Key, thank for wording your post as you did. You thoughts aren't an attack in the slightest. Your points have merit, and it's best to have them addressed one way or another.

No, I will not take this to private because that is part of the problem: I attempted to resolve some of this in private and there were not results. The staff need to work on being more respectful to the users if they wish the same respect in return. This whole "well they started it" mentality is not acceptable. I certainly didn't "start it" when I was rudely spoken to. I didn't even get a chance to speak before I was given probably the rudest warning I could have been given which they decided it was the BEST time to give on my own birthday.

I do want to highlight this as really; each and every one of us can improve in this segment. Even though we don't intend to be demeaning in any PM or warning we send, it can come out as such. Granted there will be situations where harsh wording is warranted, but not all, and likely not most. I understand your frustration with that. Honestly, while Troblems' was harsh, I think her frustration is understandable. Granted that isn't an excuse for the response to LD, but I won't speak on her behalf regarding that.

In any case, we do strive to be respectful of the members here. After all it's the #1 rule here, but beyond that it's something that should be expected regardless. Of course we are human and are prone to mistakes, but we won't use that as an excuse. We will falter, but we do work to be respectful.

I do want to say that the amount of feedback both in this topic and outside (I won't go into details there) has been overwhelmingly positive. I am seeing more "let's work together to make things better around here" than I am defensiveness. That being said, I believe the point of this thread was made, and I am hoping that this sheds some light onto this issue and this is taken to heart by both users and staff.

How you decide to approach a situation can change the outcome, just remember that. It could really help you one day.
