open (In Character) Disharmony (Element One)

The troubled pony looked outside of her empty cottage. The wind blew through the nearby trees, but other than that it was silence. The desolate, unhomely place she lived was nowhere near perfect, but it was somewhere to live, that's what mattered. Unsuspecting and afraid of anypony who might pass by her, Disharmonic Fluttershy looked through the window and shed a tear. "Why am I no good at anything? I'm too scared to talk to anyone... This town... You never know what could happen in Equestria... Oh, I wish my family would visit. It's been weeks since I moved in...". A flash of light startled the innocent bystander. Deciding to maybe just peek outside the door, she saw something questionable. Something odd. Something... Scary.

"Uuuuugh..." groaned the unicorn, sprawled out on the dirt path on her front. Her big, round-rim glasses were askew, causing her to adjust them with her hoof. "What in Equestria...?"

 

She slowly got onto her hooves and shook herself, before having a look around. "Am I... outside the Everfree Forest?"

 

She put a hoof to her temple and attempted to collect her thoughts. "Okay, Cobalt, think back... Professor Moonquill instructed you to research portal magic, and you set up a portal in your study chamber. You zapped it... and then a white flash, and now you're here."

 

A few moments of silence passed, before she shrugged and adjusted her necklace. "Nope, no idea."

 

She slowly walked down the dirt path, getting deep in thought about what spell she had used, unknowingly approaching the cottage.

The frightened pegasus gave a quiet yelp which alerted the other of her presence. "WHO are you? And what's that on your flank? Forget it you'll laugh at me anyway!". There was galloping, followed by a tug of the hoof, and she found herself tripped on the ground.

Magic had a way of really messing with him, but this was something entirely different. One moment he was trying once again to get into the school for gifted unicorns and the next, with a flash of light he was here... Where ever here was...

 

A dirt road was all he could really recognize, and... was that a pony,.two ponies? He'd have to chance it "Hello? Yes hello there, excuse me could I trouble you for a moment?"

The unicorn's ears pricked up from hearing the yelp, then looked up at the butter-yellow pegasus. She grinned and waved a hoof at her. "Hi!"

 

She blinked as the other mare yelled and scampered off, tripping over her own hooves. She went to go help her up, until her attention was grabbed by somepony else.

 

She turned around and saw a brown earth pony stallion trotting up to her. "Can I help you?" She asked, sounding more curious than anything.

Rhetoric, when he finally caught up to the unicorn  saw that there was in fact another pony to do with the situation "Um is everything alright...er um actually maybe you could tell me where I am, it seems I may have been trapped in a magical anomaly or something"

"Sorry... I'm still more concerned about who you are. I c-can't trust anyone. Everypony hates me here, and wherever you two are from, you probably hate me too..." Disharmonic Fluttershy sighed, brushing her mane from her vision while quietly shuffling her front left hoof.

The unicorn grinned awkwardly and rubbed the back of her neck with a hoof. "Yeah, that's probably my bad. I was doing some research in magical portals and... somehow I ended up here. I was just starting out and all!"

 

She turned her head to face the pegasus, and tilted her head confusedly.

"I don't hate you," she assured her with a soft smile, "in fact, I don't even know you. My name's Cobalt Flicker." She offered a friendly hoof.

Rhetoric didn't have much to say in response, at least not instantly . Before him was one of the elements of harmony... but also not quite. Something was truly off "Well I'm Rhetoric Rash... and this marks? We'll explain later, but taking your response to them into account I take it they aren't common here. Wherever here is?"

"No, I've never seen anything like it!" Fluttershy gasped. "Are you a new breed of pony? And Cobalt, you seem to be looking at me like you know me... But I never come out of my cottage... Well, apart from when I go get animal posters...". Fluttershy knew there was something strange about wherever they came from. She looked up at the sun and moon in the sky and sighed.

"Not that I can entirely know, but I would guess that we aren't from here. At least not this Equestria. I don;t understand magic to well but it would seem this is an alternate Equestria?..." he rubbed his chin in wonder

Cobalt was totally and utterly bewildered by what Fluttershy was saying, as well as the sun and moon both being present in the sky... until Rhetoric voiced his suggestion that they might be in another universe.

 

But how in Equestria had she managed to travel dimensions? Had she discovered universal travel?!

 

She beamed and pattered her hooves on the ground. Professor Moonquill would be so impressed!

Everypony's miserable, there's barely any fruit around, the animals are running amok like wild... This must be much worse than wherever you came from... I'm sorry you ended up here." Disharmonic Fluttershy apologised, blushing.

Last thing he had seen was a brilliant flash of light, a mistake, a slip up. An explosion in his lab, and in this mistake he had thought that this was in fact his end. He accepted that in that moment, he was the cause of his own death, but awakening now, safe? Outside of a small town, he didn't know what to make of it. Maybe it wasn't and explosion, maybe it was a wave that induced teleportation? Oh well, he now had to make the long journey back to his lab, and this led him to head towards the village. On his way he spotted three ponies conversing, and while it seemed intense, he dusted off his lab coat and approached, asking, "Would anypony here be so kind as to tell me where this exactly is. I had an embarrassing slipup in the lab and it induced teleportation, so I'm a tad lost." This last part he mentioned with a nervous blush. He noticed one lacked a cutie mark, he decided to quickly forget about it. Not having one at her age must've been a really sensitive subject for her.

Entirely he chose, entirely crazy, but he knew he still needed directions, and so he cleared his voice and regained his composure, "Um, no. I am definitely a pure born Equestrian, and am still definitely lost, so if you could tell me where it is that I am I would be truly grateful."

She didn't like being in crowds of ponies who might have it in for her, nor the chance of Luna and Celestia talking to her, but she'd do anything for her family.Who knows, maybe she could see an actual, real life animal rather than just looking at the posters on her wall for once.

"Summer Sun and Moon Festival?" Cobalt repeated, and rubbed a hoof on her chin. "I've never heard of that one before, and I always keep up to date on special events in Equestria!"

 

At Professor Moonquill's insistence, of course.

 

"Well, perhaps you could explain to a few newcomers what the festival is? And then I can explain to you what these are on our flanks! Sound fair?" She smiled.

"Yeah, that sounds fair enough. Basically the festival is a celebration of when our ruling unicorns Celestia and Luna found the Sun and Moon, and used the strength of every Pegasus in Equestria they could persuade to push them way up into the sky. Before then we had to rely on lamps we built ourselves for light, and they weren't always reliable. Now, we have two massive balls of light right up in the sky. Anything I've left out you three, if you don't mind me asking?" Fluttershy smiled, shedding a tear as she looked up at the sky.

Equestria

 

Missklang carefully adjusted his goggles on his head. There weren't for protection really, they just looked cool. It was the middle of the night, and he was making his way through the Canterlot castle. He wouldn't normally come here, he didn't like Celestia much, but how he could resist when he learned that a rare one-of-a-kind book was delivered today and placed in the secret branch of the royal archives. He simply had to read it. He passed through another wall. It was the kitchen. Strange, he thought the kitchen was in another place. 

 

Well, I guess many kitchens are required to provide a constant supply of cakes.

 

He giggled. After a few walls, he ended up bumping into a spell of protection. That's where the archives were! Though, that little spell was more of an annoyance than a thread. He materialized the spell in a visible spectrum, which looked like a bunch of blue and gold web interlining together. He grabbed a pair of gigantic scissors out of nowhere and cut through. The webs of magic started to wiggle like worms and faded away. He came through and immediately saw the old-looking grimoire that was set on a pedestal in the center. He grabbed and placed it inside his bag when he heard a voice.

 

Well, well, well. What have we here? A little sneaky pony who is in a place he isn't supposed to be. How wonderful. I was just getting bored.

 

Missklang turned and smiled in surprise.

 

Discord? Strange to see you here. I didn't think they would turn you into a guard dog.

 

Discord left a small laugh through his teeth.

 

You always were a funny one. See, that book you have in that pouch of yours is not a simple book. Celestia personally asked me to watch over it so it doesn't fall into wrong hooves. 

 

Missklang smiled.

 

And here I was worried. Looks like I came for nothing, I was afraid it could be left without protection. I guess I was wrong and I can put it back in its place and return to bed sleeping soundly.

 

Discord grinned.

 

Of course you are.

 

The two black vines with cyan spikes burst out of the floor trying to grab Missklang's legs, but he already teleported to the throne room.

 

Already leaving? What a shame.

 

Discord was sitting on the throne, wearing a crown and holding a twilight-cane. 

 

I don't think I can let you do that. I need to gain Celestia's trust at all cost after all. And with you sneaking freely around, that annoys me. Be gone now.

 

A beam of magic burst from the cane as Discord pointed it at Missklang, too fast for him to avoid. But, it went right above his head. It looked like Discord thought he would jump to avoid it. Missklang smiled and levitated a book out of his bag.

 

You are getting all old Discord. Your aim is off. Looks like I'm keeping that. I hope you don't mind.

 

Discord started to laugh.

 

You just insulted not only my age but yours as well. And unfortunately for you, I did not miss.

 

Missklang returned to see a giant portal that was growing behind him. It was all purple and green, with silver sparks and bolts of lightning coming from it. Suddenly he felt grabbed. Discord lift him in the air, grinning in triumph.

 

Arrivederci. Hope you enjoy your little vacation.

 

At this words, he grabbed the book and threw Missklang into the portal while laughing. When the portal was about to close, he looked at the book. "100 and one way to prank your friends for dummies" with dummies being stricken through and "Discord" scribbled on top. He grinced his teeth in annoyance and threw the twilight cane in the portal right before it closed.

 

I will get to you later...

 

At that he flew away.

 

 

Alternate Equestria 

 

It felt like a second, but Missklang though he was flying through the purple vortex for at least an eternity. Finally, the purple was gone and he felt on the ground. The world around was still spinning. However, something felt off. The air was different. It took him some seconds to realize. The air was lacking harmony essence. That was strange, normally Equestrian air was filled with that nasty stuff. Here, however, it felt as it was almost non-existant. He turned around to see the closing portal. It was still vibrating, though. He heard a sound from behind. He turned. It was Fluttershy, with a bunch of other ponies. Looks like the portal opened just in front of them. He smiled, widening his red glowing dragon eyes, looking at Fluttershy.

 

Hi there, little pony. Would you please be so kind and...

 

The portal made a poofing sound as the cane flew through and hit Missklang in the head.

 

Ouch! That was totally unnecessary Discord!

 

He shouted at the portal, but it was already closed. He turned around, picked the cane, not without a grin of amusement, and put it in his bag with no effort, even if it would seem impossible for such a big object to fit inside. Then, he looked at Fluttershy again.

 

Now, where was I? Ah, yes. Hello, Fluttershy. My name is Missklang. Nice to see you.

Their presence at the same time seemed to delight Missklang. "They wanted to know, and in exchange, they'd tell me about those strange marks the ponies from whatever world you came from have on their flanks. Oh! You have one too... Um, not that It's too much trouble, sorry if I'm annoying you..." Fluttershy continued. The four ponies in front of her looked at each other, Missklang looking on in surprise while the rest had already been here for some time, so they were used to the fact she didn't know. After a little whispering to each other, Missklang knew what was going on. They figured it was time to start explaining.

Rivers didn't know what to make of what was going down, and listened to them in absolute disbelief. They were crazy, they were all crazy, and he wouldn't be crazy with them, awkwardly saying, "I must go now." Heading away from the rest of them, he would find his way back alone he decided.
