Starlight and Discord. Could a lesson be learned?

....honestly, I'll admit, I have NEVER liked Starlight Gutter....erm....Starlight Glimmer. I hated the fact that she was a replacement for Sunset Shimmer, and right from her debeut episode, she gave me the heebie jeebies, with the whole concentration camp of communism + forced brainwashing, in addition to continuous abuse and moral misuse of her magic...like forcing Big Mac to speak, literally mind controlling the remane 5, and other strikes against her character. As far as I can remember, I can't recall a single good moment that ever made me reconsider my feelings toward her, and given her record...for good reason. But after re-watching "Keep Calm and Flutter on", and how Fluttershy dealt with Discord, there was a line that I, admittedly, had all but forgotten about, and feel somewhat bad now, for holding resentment and hostility toward this least liked pony.

 

When Discord purposely kept making things hard for the mane 5 at the dinner party, Rainbow asked Fluttershy "why do you keep cutting him so much slack?", to which Flutters replied "because that's what friends do." and shortly before that, she also replied "You know what I see, I see that Discord is far from perfect, but I also see none of you giving him a chance." 

 

So, Bronies who aren't too fond of Starlight....can the same be applied to her? Though her actions in the past have been deplorable, what with the time manipulation to break up the mane 6, the communism/ forced brainwashing, mind controlling, etc., can you look at her as far from perfect, and cut her as much slack as Fluttershy did with Discord? 

 

Can you see any future episodes in which Discord, as he's taught Twilight some important lessons, taking up opportunity to teach Starlight, in magical restraint, as Fluttershy taught him?

My problem with Starlight is that she never faces the consequences of her actions, she doesn't earn any of the good will, we're just supposed to assume she's grown and changed because the show tells us and never shows us. And I'm not saying I want to see her get the crap beaten out of her or be tortured, go to jail or some shit, but I want her to have an uphill battle and have to deal with people not trusting her so she has some obstacles so that when she actually overcomes them it feels like she's actually earned her goodwill, instead of having everything handed to her.

 

And on the subject to Discord, I'm still in the mindset that they shouldn't have redeemed him because I begin to like him less and less each season. I would've been fine if they capped it off with Twilight's Kingdom, but then they still pull shit like What About Discord, which committed the ultimate sin of making Discord boring on top of being a shitty episode at Twilight's expense

First of Starlight is not a communist. Second, I somewhat agree with you. Discord was always kept under a watchful eye and hardly trusted, but everyone instantly forgave Starlight. She got off easy.

Although what she did in the "town" wasn't that bad. She was thoroughly convinced cutie marks were an issue, and just wanted everyone to be happy and never have to have their souls crushed like she had, and that's what those people thought too... kind of. She wasn't doing it out of being a cruel person like Discord, she actually thought what she was doing was the right thing.

well quite frankly, neither do RD for breaking in and destroying the weather factory, Pinkie for her clones detroying AJ's barn and the town, Twilight for mind controlling Ponyville, or destroying it when she mind controlled parasprites, or turned her friend into a bat....none of the mane 6 have faces consequences for all the batshit things they did. Is it right that they get a pass, just because? Hell no. But I know the writers have already established they won't do a dang thing about it. And now that Starlight is part of the crew, she gets the scott-free passes too....as unfair as it is.
