Simultaneous Acquisition of cutie marks

We've only seen 2 cases where ponies acquire cutie marks simultaneously- the first being with the mane 6 as a result of the sonic rainboom- an event that was prophesied, but believed to be a mere mare's tale, like Nightmare Moon, and the second time with the Cutie Mark Crusaders, which wasn't prophecied at all.

 

In the Case of the CMC, all three were together at the same time, sharing the same thought, which was why their cutie mark acquisition seemed far more magical than the mane 6's, who weren't, and had their marks fade in on their flanks after the rainboom occurred, rather than being lifted into the air and having their parks appear in dazzling bursts of light.

 

And while the musical scene showing the mane 6 and cmc's marks all together mean that each group is destined to solve friendship problems and identity problems with cutie marks, I have to wonder, could there possibly be other instances where simultaneous aquisition of cutie marks have occurred?

 

In "the cutie re-mark", Twilight admits that "obviously, the long term effects of the simultaneous acquisition of cutie marks has yet to be determined, but I can speak for myself that the power of cutie mark magic is very real....The real question about cutie mark magic is who it seems to effect.-"

 

And that's a pretty good question. While we have seen simultaneous acquisition of cutie marks from the mane 6 and CMC, could there have been other ponies we haven't (or have) seen who also got their cutie marks simultaneously as someone else, and have a shared destiny with them?

 

What if the answers lie in the toyline, from the very CMM series itself? Of course, we see that there are the mane 6 and CMC (but as blank flanks. Foreshadowing much, that they're in the Cmm series?) But there's also Skywishes, Flower Wishes, Sweetie Drops, Sunset Shimmer, Nurse Redheart, Buttonbelle, Trixie, Cheerilee, Princess Sterling, and Princess Gold Lily.

 

However, the only ponies aside from the mane 6, with cutie marks all down their hind leg, and on their eye are Sunset Shimmer, Trixie, Buttonbelle, sweetie Drops, Skywishes, and Flower Wishes makes 6.

 

Now now as it's just a theory and might not mean anything concrete at all for the series, feel free to speculate anyway. What if these 6 ponies had also acquired simultaneous cutie marks, like the mane 6 and CMC, but didn't yet know it, and were scattered across Equestria when it happened? We never see the exact moment Sunset got her mark, in "The Fall of Sunset Shimmer", as she already had it by then, which is the earliest moment we get to see her younger self. So it's impossible to know if some awakening or magical event led other ponies to get their marks when she did, and link their destinies together.

 

Would these 6 ponies be friends had SS chosen to stay in Equestria? Do you think we'll ever see a pony or ponies in FiM who all became friends, but are lost as to their destinies, without their 6th friend who they never knew, due to her being in another world?

 

Twilight's question from "The cutie re-mark" is one that I would certainly like to see you guys' own theories and speculation on. "What ARE the long term effects of the acquisition of simultaneous cutie marks, and who cutie mark magic (aside from CMC and mane 6) seems to effect?"

A very good theory. I'm a little blown away by it! There are a lot of similarities between Twilight and Sunset Shimmer - I wouldn't doubt it.

I can't honestly say. But I think that perhaps if Shimmer wasn't exiled, the ponies mentioned from the toyline might have become the holders of the elements of harmony. Celestia might have even planned it that way,based her relationship with SS.

 

Now that said, if this theory were true, which ponies belong with which element? Shimmer would obviously be magic. I say Trixie might have been Generosity, given the pride she has like Rarity.

 

Personally though? All theories aside, I think the CMC's marks were kind of a writer's cop-out. I wish they were more individualized.

Since it has happened twice to our knowledge, it would be reasonable to suggest it has happened before, even if it is rare. There is a strong indicator that destiny had a hand in both instances, but that doesn't rule out simultaneous marks happening here and there. Especially in larger communities where group settings of younger ponies experience a similar epiphany (like a field trip).

I am either thinking that this only happened twice with the Mane 6 and the CMC because they are major characters and the show wanted to make their character arcs special.

Or like what Jeric said above, that while it isn't super common or anything, there have been situations where multiple ponies at the same time have obtained their cutie marks.
