MLP commercials

Needless to say, massive differences lie in old pony commercials of the 80's compared to today's.

Can you guys see little girls of today's commercials nuzzling and kissing their little ponies, like the kids back in the 80's did? How weird would that be?

What if Hasbro made a fan series commercial aimed at adult Brownies, now that we have the fact series collectables? How do you think that would turn out?

It probably would be weird since things were different back then. Also, the material used to make the toys has improved over the years so quality issues aren't as problematic--they still are in some cases if you know where to look. Despite bronies being such a big thing for MLP thanks to generation four, Hasbro is likely to stick with using young girls to promote the toy line because it makes the most sense for them.

the kids in the early G4 commercials all acted like they were forced to play with the toys at gunpoint, while the producers gave them champagne.

I mean....holy shit.....

MLP commercials are things that I have almost always hated. They were always so terribly forced, fabricated and gender specific to oblivion itself. It was this way for sooooooooooooooooooooo many years. If I recall there was a commercial that actually decided to include a boy in it, Guardians of Harmony I think? Still pretty fabricated stuff, but I like the gender neutrality.

I'm with you there, but then again I think gendered marketing is a societal ill :P

There's also something a bit uncomfortable about a show whose core message was originally "there's no wrong way to be a girl" being used to sell toys that focus almost exclusively on such stereotypically 'girly' interests like dressing up a bride for her wedding. Because we all know, Cadence's main concern was how her dress would look!  :please:

EDIT: Loose translation of the Japanese commercial
