Is there any point in connecting FIM to Equestria Girls anymore?

In Equestria Girls and Rainbow Rocks, it seemed fully connected, with our Twilight going to the other world. In Friendship Games, our Twilight only appeared at the very end and didn't appear at all in LOE, both times in favor of the human Twilight/"Scitwi". Is there any point anymore?

For people who don't like the franchise, the two series being separate from one another is a positive, it also shows that EQG has found its own identity and no longer has to rely on FIM.

But on the same time, there is still the whole Sunset need to reconcile with Princess Celestia thing going on, which can't really be done if the franchises stay being distant from one another.

It technically still relies on the show mainly through Sunset despite her being exclusive to Equestria Girls. I have often said that she is the bridge that connects both together and this has become more evident than ever before given the direction EQG has gone. The three specials could either push EQG even further away from the show or bring itself back towards it depending on how they handle what happened upon the conclusion of Legend of Everfree.

According to what they did in Legend of Everfree, they use Sci-Twi to replace Pony Twilight and give girls superpower, in addition, there is no pony to be found in that movie so the answer is no, EQG will be on it own now. They try to cut off any connection between two worlds mean they want 2 franchise like different canon.

Even in story context, Sunset had no desire to return and enjoy her humane company, there is no point for her to return and abandon her friends. Maybe she will return to say sorry to Celestia but then i guess it will be her last.
