When it comes to holiday specials in stop motion animation, there's no denying that Rankin/Bass is number one in that department and has cemented it's legacy with Christmas specials such as "Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer", "Santa Claus is Coming to Town", as well as 2D animation such as "Frosty the Snowman". But the truth is, it's wasn't just Christmas they focused on. It turns out that they did specials for other holidays as well. I saw they had one for Halloween, and I've seen a Thanksgiving themed special. They even had a few for St. Patrick's Day and Easter.

What are some of your favorite Rankin/Bass productions, either well known or lesser known specials.

Rudolph's Shiny New Year. It's a classic that the public neglects to remember, and it has some very strong emotional moments that definitely initiate the unique atmosphere of the special.

Haven't seen many others, but I remember 'The Year Without a Santa Claus' being good for its strong portrayal of Mrs. Claus. And QWOP players across the globe would be lost without 'One Foot in Front of the Other' from 'Santa Claus is Coming to Town'. I should probably check out Peter Cottontail at some point.

Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer is the king of them all, even though I don't recommend that horribly re-edited version they play on CBS every year (see it on dvd, it's worth it!). And the ones previously mentioned here are all major players. Rudolph and Frosty's Christmas in July isn't bad. I like it better than Shiny New Year. Here comes Peter Cottontail is a really good Easter special. The Easter Bunny is Comin' to Town is pretty solid too; it's kind of an Easter version of Santa Claus Is Comin' top Town (as you might have guessed).
