Ok, to begin im not sure if anyone has already given this theory, im just putting a theory out there for the fun of it. Also i get most of my evidence from the episode where Scootaloo meets Rainbow Dash's parents.

My theory is that Scootaloo is being abused by either her father or someone that is taking care of her. 

My second theory is that Scootaloo is being neglected by her parents.

For my first theory of Scootaloo being abused by her father or someone that is taking care of her, i believe that her father is an alcoholic and takes out his anger on her. I believe this because on the episode where Scootaloo meets Rainbow dash's parents she claims her parents are not as caring and never believed in her. This could also mean that since her parents never cared for her she got put under adoptive care since she never talks about them anyways. Scootaloo is also the only pony who isn't related to any of the main ponies and we've never seen where she lives

That's kind of spooky.  Makes me wish I'd seen that whole episode...

I think I heard somewhere that the writers say Scootaloo's parents are almost always working, and don't have much time for her, and for the most part, her aunts take care of her.  I don't think it's quite as bad as your first theory, but about the same as your second theory.

Question:  were your theories mutually exclusive, or did you think that both neglect and abuse were in play?
