Marshmallow 1,137 May 24, 2012 Share May 24, 2012 (edited) I do find it quite hypocritical how people treat butterflies, though. Like my sister. She hates bugs of all kinds, but she likes butterflies. It does not make even the least bit of sense to me. I hate bugs, of all kinds, including butterflies. They are no exception. I do respect their right to live, though. This is so true. I find that butterflies can be just as ugly as any other bug! Just look at that nasty face: Edited May 25, 2012 by Marshmallow "There was me, that is Pinkie, and my three droogs, that is Rarity, Rainbow, and Fluttershy, and we sat in the Ponyville Milkbar trying to make up our rassoodocks what to do with the evening." Otter 1,942 May 24, 2012 Share May 24, 2012 I would have just stomped it the moment I saw it. (Out of mercy, not malice, you jerk.) I'm sorry if this seems callous, but I really wouldn't care too much. Now if it was a bird, or a rodent, or some other type of small vertebrate creature, it would be a different story. As it is, there's billions upon billions of insects, so the death of one butterfly just seem insignificant to me. how even is otter and how can it be if

Chigens and Kay 3,832 May 24, 2012 Share May 24, 2012 If I ever see a bug struggling like that I put it out of it's misery. Even like little Earthworms who got stuck in the sun and are almost dried up and such. I always hate seeing people hurt or kill bugs for no reason other then mercy. Eventually I just couldn't take it anymore, maybe next time I won't hesitate, I just don't want to kill it when it may only have a minor injury. Otter 1,942 May 24, 2012 Share May 24, 2012 haha, I know what you meant! I was just messing with you! Yup. I suppose in the grand scheme of things, a human's death is just as insignificant as an insect's demise, but the important difference is that the human had people who cared about him and loved him, as opposed to an insect, since they don't have feelings and such. how even is otter and how can it be if

If humans were really small (sounds creepy, I know but Just roll with it) compared to an Alien race, and there were many more of us, Would the death of one human by squishing be just as bad to us? If not, Shouldn't it?

I would assume insects could not recieve a "minor injury" mostly because they wear their skeletons on the outside. You would think that even the smallest injury would hamper their life greatly. Like if you rip even one leg off of a Daddy Long Legs(that's what I call them), they cant even walk straight anymore. (I've never done this personally but have seen it done.) It looked like it had a wierd wound on it's abdomen, like a super dark maroon colored swelling, and it's wings were broken badly, so you know, there's no way it could've flown anymore which would make it unable to get food. roomforapony 285 May 24, 2012 Share May 24, 2012 It's just a butterfly. It was probably on its way to die anyway if it was a Monarch. I kill like five butterflies with my truck a day. Freaking things just run into it! There's a rainbow of butterflies in the grill.

CUINJALE 120 May 25, 2012 Share May 25, 2012 Did you do the right thing? Um, sure. If you hadn't killed it I'm pretty sure it would have died within a minute or two. I can at least say your heart was at least in a better place than mine would have been, seeing that I'm terrified of butterflies and I kill them on sight. Scary mofos, them butterflies.
