Horror is such a difficult genre to do well. We all know this. There are movies that can be masterpieces, while others can be a disaster. For me, the best type of horror, is subtle. That's it, subtle horror. If it is done well, doing subtle things in horror movies, stuff that doesn't rely on cheap jumpscares or painfully obvious horror, can be absolutely frightening to me. The type that sends chills down my spine. Even non-horror movies can do this well to add something more to their film or even TV show.

With that clusterbuck of an explanation, I want to ask, what are some of your favorite moments of subtle horror in movies or TV?

I will give an excellent example and the scene that made me make this topic. It is from 2017's remake of It, a movie that I feel is quite good, though it relies a tad too much on jumpscares. However, very, VERY early in the movie, there is a scene that scared the shit out of me, because I did not expect it whatsoever and it is so creepy in its simplicity.

This is that scene, if you have not seen the movie, I recommend it, but for now, there is this. In particular, Georgie goes down in to the cellar in this scene, that is the part I am referring to.

Here is another one, from a movie that technically is not a horror movie, it is more of a thriller. It is also a movie that I both like and DESPISE. That movie is Signs. A movie that excels with its atmosphere and the fear of the unknown but also falls flat on its face in many other ways. Won't go into that now though.

One of the scenes that is legit terrifying to me from the movie, is this:

Again, subtle horror done so well. We don't get a totally clear look yet we know something is there. So damn creepy!

For some reason, the Life Upgrade at the library in Prince of Persia Warrior Within was always spooky. You are suddenly in a dark room, and the eerie end of the otherwise amazing battle music spooks even more
