When Echo Spinner got the letter in her mail- she thought at first it was a prank.

Some mean, jealous kid teasing her.

But once she'd called the number, she realized it was not a prank.

In fact, the school was very very real.

And she would be going there in a week.

Her mission for now was to get all her school books and clothes.

She did this by herself, since she had a credit card and never needed to ask for money.

Echo had marked the day down on her calender, and was counting down.


7 days.

Buy clothes.

6 Days.

Buy books.

5 Days.

Pack.

4 Days.

Tell parents.

3 Days.

Buy Train ticket.

2 Days.

Panic, worry, stress, repeat.

1 Day.

Sleep, panic.


On the big day, she arrived at the train station half an hour early, and sat on an empty bench with her butler, who was carrying all her things.

The train ride would take about three hours, and she wasn't sure if there would be snacks or not, so she'd packed food.

It was a hot day, and she dressed in shorts and a tank top.

She figured she'd get dressed in her school clothes later.

Echo kept an eye out for anyone wearing the school uniform, or looking around, lost, like her.

She'd need friends.

Jake strolled along the train station, his school uniform on loosely. He would straighten it up later. He had received his letter a week ago, saying that he was... Special. He always figured he was different though he didn't know how. He noticed a young girl sitting at a bench with a butler, <she must be going too> he thought. His friendly nature made him walk up to her, and with a smile he said "Hey. You going to the academy too?"

Echo jumped at the sound of a guys voice.

She laughed nervously and then straigtened her hair out, and smiled.

"Y-Yes, I am going to the Academy. O-obviously you are." She laughed again.

"My name is Echo Spinner." She held out her hand for him to shake.

Thalia leaned against the wall in the station, glaring out from underneath her thick bangs. The people rushing past seemed to know, subconsciously, that there was something different about her, as they skirted around a solid five feet, even if it meant bumping into other people.

With a snort, she straightened up, yanking her skirt down over her fishnets and tossing the finger at a few boys who whistled. Noticing a few others gathered, she guessed that they too must be headed for the Academy, and she slowly strolled over to them.

"Thalia," she announced as means of introduction. "I'm guessing you two are headed off too?"

Jake smiled and shook her hand, "Jake Akin. Nice to meet ya" he said happily. He looked around for an arriving train while he asked "So... any idea what this place is like?". He then heard another girl coming their way. "If you mean the academy then yes. I'm Jake"

Thalia nodded. "Yeah, whatever it's called. That place." She tossed her hair out of her eyes, revealing one to be totally white and the other a strange hazy grey. "Any idea when the train gets here? I just camped overnight so I'm a bit fuzzy on the details." She then blinked. "Nice to meet you, by the way."

Echo smiled and nodded to Jake, then held her hand out to Thalia.

"E-Echo Spinner.." She giggled nervously.

So nervous.

All the time.

Her heart beat fast and she pulled out her phone.

"T-ten minutes... Train should be here in ten minutes.."

"I- I do art. But, I don't think this is an art school.."

She shrugged.

"My letter was really pretty though! It was on purple sparkly paper with dark violet ink!!"

Echo was excited- she was shaking her hands and smiling, and speaking loudly.

"Ahh, It was so pretty..."

She smiled again and then noticed she was being loud.

"S-sorry."

She blushed and looked down.

Jake chuckled, "Heh, if it was an art school I wouldn't be here. I'm more for sports. My paper was more of a sapphire blue with silver writing by the way" he said smiling. This echo was quite enthusiastic when she wanted to be.

"I was under the impression it was a music and theatre school," chimed in Thalia. "And on the subject of letters, mine was just dark red and white...is that bad?" She wrinkled her nose. "Well maybe there's different sections in the school or something, and depending on where you're placed it changes."

Thalia wasn't sure why she felt so at ease with these people. Realizing that, she flicked her bangs back in front of her eyes and frowned sullenly. Trust wasn't something she wanted to build up, not when it was so easily taken away.

Echo nodded, then reached into her bag.

"S-Snacks, anyone? I brought a whole bunch.."

She giggled.

"I didn't know if there would be food on the train, seeing as I've never ridden one.."

She smiled.

She took a bag of chips and ate some, leaving the two students near her to wonder where she put all the food.

She was very skinny. Sickly, almost.

"Madam, the train is here." Her butler said, causing Echo to jump and spill her chips.

"O-Oh, thank you.."

She smiled again.

"W-Would you two like to sit with me on the t-train?" She asked, hoping they would.

Jake happily declined the offer, having eaten a large breakfast beforehand. I'm sure they've got snack trolleys on there anyway. At least from what I've seen in all the Harry potter movies" he said chuckling. He accepted the offer to sit with her, seeing as she and Thalia were the only two he knew thus far. When she stood, she only came up to about Jakes shoulder, he chuckled as he saw how much taller he was, the way he always was around people.

Echo smiled and blushed.

"I-I love Harry Potter.."

She went to help her butler with her bags, and smiled when Jake said he'd sit with her.

"Thank you. I- I don't have many friends, you see.."

She got quiet, and walked onto the train.

Thalia followed them silently and found an empty car.

"Is here good?" she asked, pointing inside. It was secluded. Another person bustled past and gave her a wide radius, and Thalia felt her stomach sink. She didn't know what she was thinking, assuming these people would want to sit with her.

Echo had put all her luggage in the luaggage car, and smiled at Thalia.

"Yes, this is great!" She ran inside and sat down, looking at everything and giggling like a child.

"So, is this how poor peopl-"

She stopped herself.

"Th-This is great!"

She blushed and looked out the window.

Thalia did a sharp intake of breath. "You mean...you'll actually sit with me?" she said stupidly, and then inwardly chastised herself. Jake was only about two feet away from her, the closest anyone had been in...well as long as she could remember.

She bristled slightly at Echo's comment but avoided glaring at her, knowing good things didn't usually happen after that.

Echo was having a battle within herself.

She didn't mean to insult anyone- she just wasn't used to doing things any other way than she'd been brought up.

And this way, her mother would call it "poor-person way".

She sighed and bit her lip.

"I-I'm sorry f-for my comment about p-poor p-people.. I didn't m-mean it like that.. I- I'm not used to be-being out in public, or d-doing anything that d-doesn't include first class or a c-car..."

She blushed and looked down at her hands.

Thalia shrugged and brushed past her to get a seat by the window.

"It's cool, whatever," she grumbled.

Inside, though, Thalia was struggling not to lash out at Echo. She didn't have any idea how many hardships she'd gone through in her life, how often she went hungry for days because she couldn't find anything edible in the trashcans she was forced to dig through, how she was forced to steal clothes in order to stay warm-and yet here she was, in what seemed like the most luxurious thing she'd ever experience, and this girl was pointing out how it was for "poor people". She'd had everything handed to her on a silver platter-how would she know anything?

Echo decided to stay silent now- her big mouth had caused trouble already.

She bit her lip in an attempt to stop the tears from flowing from her eyes- but it didn't help.

She wiped at her face angrily, hoping no one would notice.

Taking a deep breath, she reached into her bag and pulled out her sketch pad.

Thalia glanced at her, noticing the sketch pad.

"You draw?" she asked bluntly. "I've always wanted to take lessons but I couldn't AFFORD it."

Shut up before you get yourself in trouble, said a little voice in her brain, but Thalia ignored it and fixed her with her white stare.
