Pony Theory: Why is Celestia so weak?

Also the speed in which they get taken out. Celestia being hit once by Queen Chrysalis in a "Canterlot Wedding", and all three princesses being taken out by one single very predicable attack from Tempest Shadow in "MLP the Movie".

Compare that to the battle between Starlight Glimmer and Queen Chrysalis (with power from Grogar's bell) from S09E24. And Starlight Glimmer almost won that battle, well at least didn't get defeated with one hit like Princess Celestia, and both of them are no Elements of Harmony!

Kind of contributes to "If you aren't an element bearer, you will get taken out".

And also theres the fact the sisters embarrassingly lose their magic to Cozy Glow despite they most likely known the bell can steal magic by now and the fact Cozy most likey brought it with her(and which she did). I am pretty sure they knew all of that but still got blindsided by her using the bell on them.

Well, the Student Six have proven they can even deal with the element bearer's faults, and save the day. And they are not Elements themselves; was never confirmed.

They are powerful, just not good at fighting.

Not that the Mane 6 are either, and as for the Guard ponies.... yeah.

Tbf, apparently they are now technicaly a set of "bearers" too.
Especially with being included in the final rainbow laser.
Then again the Pillars got shafted but still got included anyway. Its almost if Twilight reminded the show/writers that the Pillars were still connected to Harmony stuff too.

Then again I bet the Student Six bit you mentioned is a precursor to the Mane 6 will soon start falling flat on their faces and its up to the Student Six to pick up the slack.

Yea, but remember, Princess Celestia (which this topic is about) was active ruler of Equestria during all this time. She didn't manage to do anything during all of this! Even when her magic was taken away from her, she is still supposed to be a great teacher. She is sitting on the sidelines letting Equestria's fate be decided by 6 creatures from Twilight's school. She is definitely insane. She should have stepped in at least once to show her real power.

I can assure you, not a single fan would have said no to this! It would have been as bad*ss as the Twilight VS Tirek battle in the ending of Season 4.

I can assure you, not a single fan would have said no to this! It would have been as bad*ss as the Twilight VS Tirek battle in the ending of Season 4.

But of course she WANTS to hand over power to Twi. That said though, given how she started jumping in with unrequested "help" in the last season, she may well have liked to have carried the torch for at least one finale. I wonder if we could get a prequel series with how Celestia earned her wings and her throne?

It stings for Luna's case since she just got back from the moon(and left the burden of protecting Equestria on Celestia's shoulders alone for a 1000 years).
The fact she returns to the throne only to end up just falling flat on her face again and again(or just sidelined) really just.. feels so iffy.

Don't forget Luna too.
Having her and Celestia properly getting to save the day would show they still got it(for Luna's case, it would further cement her redemption from falling into being Nightmare Moon).
That I wished could have happen a lot more often.

I like to think that they will get a few hundred years of respite, rather than being shunted - once Twi's friends are gone and she tires of her role, she can hand over power back to the royal sisters while she takes a break, perhaps goes back to her friendship school for a few centuries. Flurry Heart will presumably succeed to the Crystal Empire throne so Cadance can take a break too.

At least address the issue of Luna only returned from the moon since a few years to return ruling only to be retiring. I feel like that shouldn't be handwaved aside

I think Royal  Problem shows just how much hard work being a ruler is; It would seem fairer to take it in rotation, and while Luna wasn't back long from the moon, she wasn't really Luna there, she was NMM, so may not have "been" the pony there.

Really, they could have had Luna rule for at least a 1000 more years to make up for the lost years.
While ruling alongside Twilight maybe.  So she has someone who has actual experience in a way to help her rule(and make the work less stressful for Twilight).
Really, Twilight deserves all she can get to help her manage ruling Equestria.

While she was on the moon as NMM, the fact still remains that she lost a 1000 years.

Honestly I think why the hard work for Luna is much harder is due to she still not exactly get enough appreciation in a way. 
In fact, if she retired just because the hard work was a bit too much, that would honestly make her look bad since she still didn't rule for much long after her return.

She deserves a break anyhow though. I am not sure how any of the ponies can really step into her royal hoofshields - Twi is going to be busy as day princess,

I thought that Starlight was destined to take on Luna's role when Twi ascended, which was why she was councillor at the school for S8 - but clearly that didn't happen either.  Maybe she is just yet to earn her wings?

Wished it was Luna would get the option to return to the throne after some years of resting and catching up with Celestia and such.

Honestly was not sure if Starlight would become an alicorn or not. That right there is going to be tricky to pull off if they want to do that.

Perhaps she can have her own realm, beyond the eastern horizon where the sun never reaches?

Really if Twi was to have a co-ruler, it would have to be an alicorn. Perhaps Nyx could be redeemed and become Twi's second Third pupil?
