mega thread How are you feeling?

Rift enchanted

Still suffering a bit from knowing (or feeling like) I live in an un-careing society IRL from yesterday, but calmer now. Also seeing everybodies happy birthday wishes legit brought a smile to my face. Thanks guys!

I'm feeling that's a good thing I can meet people like you guys online, or else my life would be COMPLETELY isolated save immediate family. The town I live in will like you....if you've been there for a few years.

Yes, this website truly is a safe haven to discuss our problems and interests in a calm and respectful manner with other members here. Joining this site is one of the best decisions I ever did, I regularly message my friend Snoopy Fan, about MLP, fan fictions and possible death battle scenarios between fictional characters.

He also gave me some ideas on how to ponyfy my bedroom, in an indirect way, he did not recommend it in conversation but he has posted photos of his collection of plushies on this forum which intrigued me. When my ornaments on my shelf are finished with the LED lighting already done, I hope to give other people ideas on how to add style when showing support for MLP.

He is a sweet and gentle person.

Feeling rather ignored lately. It seem sas though I've been slowly fading out of realiy. Both on the forums and even real life, I try to get my parents attention and the way they reasponded er rather not reasponded, You'd think I was just a specter, a ghost. To me, it's just more proof that I did truely die in the past. If any of you actually see this, then I know I'm not that far gone.

I'm sorry to hear that. What's been going on with you, if you don't mind sharing? :/

Nah, you're a great person to talk to, and you're always welcome here to talk with us. I've been dealing with family problems of my own as well but it is not your fault or anyone else's here on this forum. After having taken my medication after a bout of anxiety problems earlier this afternoon I do feel more relaxed.

I don't know about you but I do wish I could exist in the fictional world Equestria like in my fanfic I have not been motivated to continue writing about recently. But why waste our time wishing for a world that can never exist? Midnight Insight and I had been discussing about this very topic, even in the distant future if virtual reality technology became the closest thing to making that a reality, though I have my doubts technology can become that advanced or that human civilization will be around for that long, in the event VR tech did become that advanced, it'll be locked behind some paywall for the richest of folks, so we're never going to benefit from it regardless, either that or it'll end up banned because of fear-mongering, though there are plenty of ways to die IRL as well.

So nope, we are never going to live out some superhero fantasy in a computer generated world, either A) that Matrix-like VR tech never gets developed or B ) the law stops it. Both are very good reasons to hate our world.

If that's your wish, just know people will likely be receptive if you need to vent in the future. :) For the record you seem cool from what I've seen of you around here, I don't always have something to say to everyone but I do try and read everyone's posts even if I miss some sometimes. Hope tomorrow is a better day for you </3

Well, unless my next round of medication works tonight I guess I will be up all night.

Pertaining to a discussion Midnight Insight I had about a Matrix-like VR, I don't disagree with what he said, we even discussed it on a forum thread a while back with other people here, however I don't believe it is likely to happen, we cannot even guarantee people will be around long enough even if some breakthrough could allow computer generated worlds to be that advanced.

seems like a pointless dream to me, but then what do I know? I am not a software developer.

Even if it did, obstacles like paywall or regulations could get in the way of that being made available to the public. I can already predict how that conversation would turn out, does not take a scientist to know that. So that scifi dream of transhumanism just isn't going to happen because humans are simply too selfish. They may scaremonger about how it could be compared to a drug addiction of sorts, ignoring the advantages future VR tech could bring like making people live longer, and able to escape the limitations of their physical body, so that a disease or health condition does not kill them, a consciousness in cyberspace is bound by the hardware and the dreamworld it simulates instead.

The drug addiction analogy would be a very poor one regardless, substance abuse generally leads to bad outcomes for a person no matter what their predisposition was. Where as if VR were advanced enough it could not only result in people living longer, it could make life more pleasurable as well. No, it would not make people immortal, but it has the potential to bring something close to it. The problem isn't the hypothesis, it is human nature, greed and ego.

Snoopy Fan? he is, definitely. He knows how to communicate with others without making it feel confrontational, I believe him when he said he was like this before he watched My Little Pony Friendship is Magic, but his gentleness and politeness in discussions reminds me of the way Fluttershy speaks with her friends in MLP. So I am careful with the way I talk to him as I am aware how sensitive he is and I don't wish to say anything which could upset him, as I know he would do the same for me and anyone else here.

I think if he were to exist in the fictional world Equestria, he would find it very easy to make friends there, I could very easily see Fluttershy or other members of Mane Six liking him.

I agree with the idea of limiting such technology to only to the rich to the point of it being refused to help those who feel, and are, shut in and ignored from the wider society (ND people, the homeless, the working poor, trans people, we all know who) as either for therapy or to improve their social life. Because, and everyone say it with me now, "Everyone should pull themselves up from there boot straps! Giving people help will make them lazy!" Some people are selfish sure, but NEVER underestimate the other emotions too: fear (of repercussions of what will happen if they rock the boat). Awe (of the wealthy. "They deserve it because they're smarter and work harder!") And the willingness to be ignorant. All three combined? And you get current human society.

I identify with Fluttershy and Twilight myself. I don't talk much and m slow to accept others as friends.

But @Dawnshine WonderI do believe that there will be a few places that will accept pushing VR technology to the benefit of all it's citizens: The Scandinavian countries (did you know that Norway, I think, are so close to eliminating homelessness from one of their biggest cities?)

I think transhumanism as the technology be called, merging cybernetics with human biology, which would include VR, holds potential for space exploration as well. If the human consciousness could be backed up in a supercomputer, it could be more easily be transported to distant solar systems. Let's face it, the human body is a demanding organism constantly requiring oxygen, water and a nutritionally balanced diet, VR being that advanced could extent life expectancy, while at the same time not requiring oxygen or water, only electricity and hardware to run. Not all planets are suitable for humans to live in their natural form, but a planet sized supercomputer powered by the sun having VR technology could make that a non issue. That's a scifi dream, but sometimes scifi concepts do become reality later on.

Perhaps we should take this in DM's so we're not clogging up the "I feel" section?
