How does an Ai work?

Sophie

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

I'll explain to you how an AI works, if it's "stealing" from artist and other interesting facts, since I talked with a few people about that who doesn't know much about it.

What's an Ai?

Artificial intelligence is the simulation of human intelligence processes by machines, especially computer systems. Specific applications of AI include expert systems, natural language processing, speech recognition and machine vision.

How does an Ai work?

AI systems work by ingesting large amounts of labeled training data, analyzing the data for correlations and patterns, and using these patterns to make predictions about future states. In this way, a chatbot that is fed examples of text chats can learn to produce lifelike exchanges with people, or an image recognition tool can learn to identify and describe objects in images by reviewing millions of examples.

AI programming focuses on three cognitive skills: learning, reasoning and self-correction.

Does an Ai steal from artists?

No, an Ai doesn't steal pictures, drawing style or other things from artists, what it do is looking at pictures over and over again so it knows what a pony, as an example, looks like, so it knows that a pony has 4 legs, a tail, a snout, sometimes wings, a horn or even both!

Does it steal the style when I upload a picture of a pony from an artist?

No, what the ai does with the picture, is looking at it, learning the pose of that pony, the eyes, the colors, the shape of the pony and so on, as already mentioned, it doesn't steal the drawing style from that artist.

Does the Ai support any protection for artists?

Yes! Purplesmart.ai as an example has an Artist detector, which works very easy! As an example:

when you try to generate a picture and tell the Ai "Make a pony in the style from artist XYZ" then the Ai will detect the Artist name and simple tells you "Sorry, can't do, artist name detected".

Are there any Ai you can recommend?

For pony pictures: Purplesmart.ai (Free to use, can be found on Discord)

For Chat: ChatGPT (Free to use, account needed)

For general pictures: Dall•E (Subscription + Account)

Does an Ai draw the pictures in real Time?

No, an Ai generates the pictures, based on the words you give it which happens in real time.

I hope I was able to answer some of your questions, if you've more questions, please ask and I'll try my best to answer them  :coco:

  • The title was changed to How does an Ai work?

Warning, potential controversial topic below but I'd like to toss it in for the heads up and clarification of when people call it "art stealing."

Spoiler

would also like to address the **stealing from artists** controversy.

I personally didn't get this. I was thinking to myself "I do SOME art and if an AI wanted to use my style just to make random art, I'd find that fascinating and be like 'oh.. cool.' After an interesting discussion with
@GeneralDirection he was quick to inform me that I do not make a living off of art like many artists do and so their personal style being taken by an AI when artists worked so hard to make that art -- is in fact -- like stealing or direct stealing.

So while the AI DOES make original artwork not directly copy/pasting an artists personal hard work -- the style and the mannerisms is an imitation of an actual artist -- and they will feel robbed if what they work so hard to properly charge money for --is suddenly poofed into existence -- for free -- without their consent to offer their style by a computer. So, this is interesting to observe how technology is advancing SO QUICKLY that humans are now scrambling to morally fix these new challenges that we were ... not quite prepared for! :ooh:

Anyway, I really just wanted to toss this in here because I didn't realize how dismissive I was being when I thought "oh, this isn't stolen art -- the AI made it fresh and original on its own." <3 I wish to be fair and honor all points of views even if some may feel pretty heated about the matter at hand. I'm sure we can still be cordial despite making that one observation. :rarity:

Anyway! Thanks for the thread, Sophie!

  • The topic was pinned

Pinned this topic after request from OP as it generally does a great job as a living tutorial for generating AI Art Creations

For everyone that wants to learn how to use Purplesmart.AI (Works also with different AI picture generating sites)

Prompt:

it describes everything that you want to include in the picture, as an example: Cyan Pony (It's important that you give the AI the correct Color name, otherwise it will just circle the colors, like Green, dark green, light green and so on), Also you include all the things your pony has, Eye color, mane color, tail color (can be put in once sentence, like "Light brown mane and tail color").
The location, if your pony is doing something like sitting, standing, sleeping and so on.

Negative Prompt:

This one is very important! there you type EVERYTHING you don't want in the picture, I for myself use it when the AI adds additional body parts, like a 5th leg, missing legs, too long neck and so on. In short you can say "you give the AI a better picture on how to not generate the picture"

Model:

PONY_V4 (So the AI knows that it's using a Pony model instead of a human body)

Clip_Skip:

It's used so the AI knows in what kind of style the pony should be done, while "Normal" means that it's fixed on a normal pony structure while "PENULTIMATE" means that it can circle between different generating styles.

Seed:

Seed is used to circle through different kind of patterns, normally for the first try you start with "1", after that, the AI circles through it by itself.

Scale:

Scale describes how much the AI can "Think" for itself. You can go from 1 to 20 while 1 means "Do whatever you want" while 20 means "DO WHAT I WANT FROM YOU!" It's important that you circle through different types of Scales to get the best result before moving on to the next "Seed"

SAMPLER & Steps:

I for myself use K_EULER_A since I got the best results with that. You can also use different kind of sampler and steps :coco:

Despite its name, the PONY_V4 model can generate humans just fine, like the Equestria Girls characters (there are a few examples in my thread). Although there is one thing it has problems with: hands. I've never seen it make a hand that looks good.

That's true, I also saw pictures of anime figures that had normal hands, so I'm pretty sure the model was changed for that OR the list of the negative prompt was pretty long and detailed

  • 5 months later...

Oh, didn't know this subforum existed until now, holy shit. I'm very inactive these past couple of months(despite there being a lot of nice and good beans on here).

I use Stable Diffusion for goofing around 99% of the time, learning prompts, how to inpaint, etc, and I am having a ton of fun with AI as a tool. Though I mainly create human, humanoid and/or anthro creations with the occasional feral stuff.

Are there any specific rules for what you can upload/showcase, outside of the normal "no politics and no porn" rules that I need to be wary of before posting?

Ai generated pictures get handled like normal pictures here on the forum, that means no NSFW content, any content seen as fetishistic, pornographic, or has explicit depictions of violence and gore is not permitted anywhere on this site.:coco:

Ah. Thanks for the clarification, love.

Was contemplating finding a place where I can post all my goofy crap.
