Concept Art for Role Play Character

Hey guys I thought I'd make a thread for the concept art for my RP pony Timber Strum. She is not blue that was just the only color I had on me and these are really rough, I'll post more in this thread as I draw, I'll try different colors and see what I like.

I think this one is a big improvement, the torsos of those 2 first pics were too long. Although I'm pretty happy with this (and I will add color) I don't really like the hair.

Good start definitely (I apologize for the following nitpicking an criticizing, but it's really meant to help you improve)

 

- the anatomy is slightly of, consulting an instruction sheet can do wonders for that. Here's the one i use:

 

 

-To keep in style with the show, try to avoid black for anything but eyes and cutiemarks

-Cutiemarks tend to look better with two or more colours, maybe add another note in white or yellow

-All outlines should be a slightly darker version of the colour they're outlining

-eyes need iris & highlights

-horn needs to be a bit bulged out and the curly pattern added

-The lines within mane &tail should be less and run all the way through

 

Once again, sorry for being blunt, but criticism and LOTS of practice are the only means to improve.

 

Looking forward to more.

Thanks so much for the help! I drew this next one before reading that but i downloaded that image and will use it for my next drawings. I notice I was doing the hind leg wrong which I correct in this drawing and for the outline thing I just had a sharoy hardy so I used it. I don't have any colored felts or pencils to use so I have to color in PhotoShop but I'll find a way to do the color thing you said.

This is probably my best one yet. The proportion chart said to make it 1 for the head, then 2/3 for the torso, then 1 for the legs but when I drew it that way the torso seemed to short so I changed it to 1,1,1 for this drawing.
