gaming Indie Game Bundle Sites

There are a variety of websites where you can purchase bundles of Indie games. Most are a combination of DRM-free, Steam, and Desura.

What is an Indie game, you ask? The most common definition is as follows:

"A video game made by a single person or small group of individuals with no financial backing from a publishing company."

Humble Indie Bundle

Easily the most well-known (and probably original), this site started the popularity of bundling up some Indie games and selling them off.

But here's the kicker - not only do you get a pack of fantastic games, but you get to pick your own price!

There are several price points;

  • Suggested Price - the price that Humble Indie Bundle staff recommend you pay, which is generally around $10.
  • Retail Price - the price if you were to purchase each game separately
  • Average Price - the average price people have been paying for
  • Custom Price - the ability to set your own price
Unless you want to be generous, people rarely pay the Suggested or Retail prices, which is why the Average normally floats around $5-$8. The Average price is sometimes even about $3 in the first few hours of the bundle going live, so it pays well to get email notifications!

The Custom Price can be set to whatever you want; $1 to whatever high you want! You can even pick who gets the money and in what increments - charity, Humble Bundle, and/or the game developers!

Soemtimes, they will add more items to their bundle after the release. Any items added after the fact is available to those who already purchased it.

Humble Indie Bundle averages around one bundle per month.

Indie Royale

Another pick-your-own-price site, but this one works significantly different.

The bundle launches at a Minimum Price. That Minimum slowly crawls upwards for each person to buy the bundle. If a person decides to pay significantly higher than the minimum, it knocks down that minimum for everyone else. To drive the price down, there are four levels: Iron, Bronze, Silver, Gold.

Indie Royale occasionally does Bonus price points, where you get additional content if you meet or beat that price. The current trend is getting at least one chiptune album by paying around $7 or more.

Oftentimes, they will add more items to their bundle as time goes on. Any items added after the fact is available to those who already purchased it.

Unlike other sites, Indie Royale gives each bundle a theme and has a timeline which shows the next three upcoming bundles and their approximate release time. While it doesn't show the games themselves until the reveal date (when the bundle is for sale), it gives you a basic theme of games to look forward to.

I recommend you sign up for their email notifications, as they occasionally offer pre-orders; which not only guarantees you a low price, but you an get bonus content added for free.

This site averages around one bundle per every two weeks.

The Indie Gala

No, you won't be seeing any ponies in dresses at this gala, but you will find a ton of fantastic games at fantastic prices!

Again, the site follows the custom price habits, but it also works just a bit uniquely.

There are three Price Tiers. Generally, they are priced slightly different per bundle, but there are common traits between them. Unlocking a tier will automatically unlock the previous.

There is also always a Music section, which grants you access to a variety of Indie music when you unlock Tier Three.

Indie Gala keeps track of your purchases by using your email as your own personal account. Each bundle you buy gets you Gala Points (with bonus points given for several conditions). These points don't current have a function, but those who run the site have said there will be an important role for them in the future.

In addition to buying the bundles, Indie Gala rewards those who purchase additional bundles to gift to other people. Not only do you get a discount with bundling the bundles, but you get bonus Gala Points.

I buy all of these all the time., Haven't missed one since they all launched. My Steam list is so full now.

I find IndieRoyale to be cool to find new and cool companies, like CipherPrime.

Same here, it's the reason my Steam list is so bloated. Tons of fantastic games I would likely never have known.

*Types Custom Price as $0 *

Does that work?

No, see the original post:
